Home invasion at the Ironbriars (spoilers for Skinsaw Murders)

Rise of the Runelords

Just had to share this one.

My group was being fairly smart about the Ironbriar situation. They scoped out his workplaces, and the rogue followed him after work down to the sawmill (using a hat of disguise, so he could change looks while shadowing).

The party later went in to investigate, provoked the cultists, and ended up taking them out (they started with charming one, so they had an informant). They then laid an ambush for Ironbriar for when he returned and he went down pretty quickly.

Then they decided that they needed to investigate his home on the Summit (which the rogue had also shadowed him to). They had his keys, so they were able to get in without disturbance. The rogue disguised himself as Ironbriar, but blew his bluff check when actually trying to fool Mrs. Ironbriar (who knew nothing of her husband's illicit activities; he kept everything incriminating at the sawmill). She, on the other hand, did bluff the rogue (nobody in the party took Sense Motive or Bluff) and pretended to go to bed, and later was able to knife him when he went back to check on her.

So they ended up tying her up and keeping her hostage, while some of the party tried to convince her that Ironbriar was evil and that they were justified in breaking into her home.

They're now at the Shadow Clock, but may have a surprise awaiting. The rogue, again diguised as Ironbriar, blew his bluff check again when sending a messenger to the courts saying he was ill.

Always entertaining!

Liberty's Edge

Sounds great! My group ended last session with Ironbriar tied up on the floor (they actually stormed the Sawmill from the ROOF entrance).

This week in email he's been harrassing them and I've been pulling all sorts of stuff out of my hat to keep him in the picture and trying to deal to escape. But we have a darned paladin in the party, and he won't let him go, even short-term.

A Mrs. Ironbriar, eh? Human or elf? Good one!

A motive-sensing, bluffing, knife-wielding "Mrs. Ironbriar."

That's really funny. A totally on-the-fly thorn in the PCs side.
.
.

But if she was such a stud-ette, how did she miss the fact that:

1. Her husband was an evil cultist and murdering bastard.
2. Her husband was charmed by a Large Chaotic Evil Monstorous Humanoid (Shapechanger)
3. Her husband was presumably boinking the Monster.

I guess she had better skills than the PC, but not as good as her husband.

Either that, or love is seriously blind. Like -20 blind.

Mrs. Ironbriar is an elf in my game.

I wasn't really making her that impressive. The way I and the rogue's player were rolling, respectively, a 1st-level commoner could have pulled it off.

But it did make for great tension!

Love is an epic-level challenge.

Only because it's Christine Schneider Day, RPG SUPERSTAR!

I take it you were rooting for her?

I was bummed because one of my friends made it into the top 32 and then had to drop out because he goofed the due date and ran out of time to finish the next entry.

Pat , Do not forget that Ironbriar is a important person in Magnimar .
Such a person has servants to take care of the home .
Even if the servants know nothing of his illegal activities and are not at residence (which is possible: he is an Elf , he wants to live alone ) , they should come to work everyday and so be able to free Mrs Ironbriar

Also , the marriage could be for convention sake only . People in Society were expected to be married in order to insure that the family name would continue. The setting could support such a view
That could explain why Mrs Ironbriar would know nothing of his spouse activity and also why the rogue blew it
'Hum , what has happened to my husband , he is quite affectionate today , it' almost as if .... '
