Posted this already in the obituaries thread as a side note, but what the hey, it can go here too.
PC: ??? Varlance (first name escapes me atm) - Skarn Cleric of Wee Jas
Adventure: Here There Be Monsters
I had been unconsciously picking on the cleric for the whole session, and when I realised it, I had whacked him down (via bar-lgura harem in the Shrine to Demogorgan) to -9 hp. He failed to stabalise and lay dead on the cavern floor. The warlock was standing next to him, happened to be holding a wand of CLW, AND was acting on the same initiative. He asked if he could 'jump start' the cleric with the wand, so I stuck a high DC on the Use Magic Device check to balance it off a little and told him to go for it. By some miracle he made the check and the cleric was 0 hp and stabalised. It was a sort of apology for beating on the guy incessantly for the last four hours.
Also, the cleric again, back in The Bullywug Gambit, when the PC's first witness the effects of a Savage Tide. They were tromping through the jungle and were attacked by the savage monkeys. For some reason, the cleric (slowest of the party) and the scout had gotten ahead of the fighter and the warlock and the monkeys ambushed them. The scout managed to keep her attackers at bay while the others caught up, but the cleric was less lucky. Miserably unable to hit the damn monkey, it set about crawling all over him and hitting him with every attack it made. The cleric, wearing full plate at the time, was at a loss to understand how the damn thing kept hitting him, until we decided it had managed to crawl inside his armour somehow (and the cleric's phobia of monkeys was born). Anyway, this monkey turned out to be practically invincible, beating the cleric in a three-round grappling contest, until the fighter caught up and helped to pin the thing down while the warlock levelled an eldritch blast at its skull and blew a hole in it. The cleric was down to about 2 or 3 hp by this time...
I miss that monkey.

The group I am running thru ST has some pretty good dice rollers so they weren't even threatened seriously until Kraken's cove, where the tank Fighter Alvinius at the back of the party failed to detect the approach of Ripclaw while the rest of the party was focused on the little savage Phanaton in the next chamber. The Savage dino hit with all but one attack and dropped the Alvinius to about -5. Luckily enough the party realized that the real threat was behind them and they finished off Ripclaw rather quickly. The cleric was able to stabilize and heal the Alvinius before any permanent damage was done.
The second near death experience was aboard The Kraken (formerly the Sea Wyvern) when the Barbarian Varr took on the Slaad by himself so the rest of the ship could prepare for the battle. Another case of one (round) and done. Varr's wounds were cured before he was dead-dead.
The third near death crisis, was very nearly a TPK. The hydra arose from its lair while the cleric and wizard were on the ship and Varr, Alvinius and Azzedar the tiefling rogue/fighter/swashbuckler were in a skiff getting fresh water. Both spell casters were out of range for most of their more useful spells so the hydra had a target rich environment and was also able to act first in initiative. Both Alvinius and Varr did significant damage before they fell to the beast while the Azzedar took to swimming away after the first round. Eventually the three remaining PCs were able to finish the Hydra off.
I suspect that the Mother of All will wreak a little havoc tomorrow.
Cheers!

Templeton, Water Genasi Barbarian 1/ Ranger 1/ Fighter 2
Knocked the door of the Vanderboren House, discovered Bullywugs, and launched a one-man SWAT assault on the frog-like invaders. The first 6 or seven dropped like skeletons in Gauntlet but then he walked in on the cigar-smoking Huntress and ... six more Bullywugs.
I decided to give him a chance as he'd been yelling for Drevoraz and the Hero's Code wouldn't let him walk away before finding out where Lavinia was. They pulled out nets and went for trips, grapples and subdual damage. The Huntress fetched Chunkus and drank a potion of Enlarge... I swapped her mini for a huge Troll to try and intimidate him into surrendering.
Buried under eight Bullywugs, all grappled or assisting the grapples, he rages and rolls a 20, throwing them all off him. In comes the enlarged Huntress with a full power attack. Natural 20. 19 on the confirm.
72 points of damage ... subdual.

Stupid heroics! He wouldn't give up! Now Bua Gorg and Drevoraz have him. They got a letter from Harliss but no earrings, and he doesn't even have the letter.
I've been thinking of all sorts of tortures (cut the webbing between in his fingers, take some toes or fingers, a nose, whatever. I think I'll let the player make his own story up rather than force it on him though).

Crew 1, 24th session, "in between" Tides of Dread and the Lightless Depths.
Location: Gallivant Cove
Character: Jade "the Appetizer", on griffonback via freedom of movement and water breathing
Almost-death: After being steam-cooked the previous round to the tune of 40 hp then cured of 24 of those hp, said character was looking at becoming a meat snack for the advanced dragon turtle with a 57hp chomp due to the reach-granted attack of opportunity while she rode on the back of her cohort-griffon. Sadly, that character death was denied by 22 hp worth of Close Wounds spells tossed by the 2 clerics with the Augmented Healing feat...
