Tamora Pierce...

Music & Audio

I generally try to avoid shameless self promotion, but I can't help but wonder if anyone here was a fan of the works of young adult author Tamora Pierce. I've done some voice work for the full cast audio Immortals Series and the audio book of Will of the Empress.

I'd never heard of her before getting the gig, but it did make me wonder if there were any fans of hers on these boards.

So, no one, eh?

Sorry don't usually check the bottom of the messageboards so I missed this thread.

If memory serves this involved the Lioness and then Wild Magic and then hmm... wasn't that Alanna where she posed as her brother to become a knight only to have to fight and kill the king'd brother who was also effectively a black sorceror only for her own brother to raise him at the behest of a seriously psychotic Copper Kingdom princess who had been trying on with "Alan" back before she was found out.
Alanna had a familar of her own a small black kitten if I remember rightly the same princess killed him and Alanna introduced her to the business end of the nearest weapon she had available...

Hold on shouldn't I have turned that into a spoiler?

Sorry will have to think more on this.

Take care and all the best!

Nope, not the Lioness series. I think that was already done by Random House by a single reader. This is Full Cast Audio, where literally everyone in the book is played by a real actor, and the series was the one with Daine, the magical girl who can communicate with all animals.

WHAT!!!

Any chance you can name some of the actors involved?

The last time I heard anything like that was back when they did the superman and batman audio's of course the best remembered is when they did a Jackanory version where they had multiple readers taking a part in a telling of "The Hobbit".

It looks like there's something else I'll need to track down.

Unless you are really familiar with the upstate new york music and theater scene, I doubt that you'd recognize any of the actors involved. But if you're still interested, look it up on amazon.com

The only one that's available for purchase currently is Wild Magic, but I think Wolfspeaker should be out for Christmas.

Just to update: Wolf Speaker is now in its pre-release stage.

Wolf Speaker is now out, though I have to admit that I feel I kind of did a crummy job. Feel free to disagree with me.

I have a friend who's going to Boston to meet Tamora Pierce.

This looks interesting, David. Does this sort of work get done often in Syracuse, or was there some special connection for this one? (I'm typing this from Ithaca.)

Syracuse is the home of Full Cast Audio, which has done many young adult novels on CD. They specialize in casting each character with an individual actor, rather than have one narrator play all the parts. Sometimes there is a little doubling, but for the most part a major character is played by a specific individual.

Most of the actors are semi-professional, are college students, or just well known members of the community theater, so breaking into it isn't terribly restrictive. Tamora Pierce lives in Syracuse, so naturally it must have been convenient for her to have full cast do her books. I also think she gets along well with Bruce Coville, the founder of the company.

I was lucky to get cast as Lord Rikash, because that meant I got to work on three books. My girlfriend got a plumb job as the narrator of Fairest by Gail Carson Levine, and she kicks the s#~& out of me vocally, let me tell you.

This is pretty cool! I just finished the Lioness series and was going to read the Wild Magic books but after I read this thread I decided to get them on cd ;)

Looks like good stuff! I'm going to try to pick up a copy and check it out.

Sovereign Court

I listened to wild magic (actually, I think I bought it from audible.com) and read the other books in the series. I'll have to see about listening to wolfspeaker, though. I've also listened to the lioness, terrier, and trickster books from Tamora, and have meant to spend some time listening to the magic circle series, too. I thought Wild Magic was extremely enjoyable to listen to, good work =)

Was chatting with Bruce Coville a couple of weeks ago and I guess there's been some sort of snag with their distributor, so I'm not certain as to when Emperor Mage and Realms of the Gods come out, which is too bad for me because I had a lot more to do in those books and want to hear if I did any better than on the first one.

Also, if you listened to Tricker's Queen, you might know me as the "universal steward" who appears as a different steward every hundred pages or so.

Liberty's Edge

I read the Marvel comic she wrote ("White Tiger"), and enjoyed some of it, but it fell apart halfway through the story and ended up selling very poorly, so she probably won't be working for Marvel again.

For anyone who's even remotely interested, the audio book of Emperor Mage should be coming out soon, as I just got my complimentary copy delivered to me.
