There's an article in Wikipedia about it. Gotta love the citation needed bits in an article about a fictional touch attack.

The nerve pinch and the nerve lock, from "Serenity", seem crafted from the same s t u f f.
Once we(earthlings) understand more of the molecular chemistry of nerves, I am sure someone will patent the nerve-pinch. It will become popular and a fun party trick to play on your friends. (..watch me make Ed fall on a sword.. <smothered laughing> shhh...)

well; Terry Gordy; a wrestler with the Freebirds; used to use a throat spike move with his thumb on the neck that was very much like the vulcan neck pinch; it cut off blood flow from the cararted ateriey or however that is spelled (to lazy to look it up) and blood flow cannot leave the brain so it begins to pool in your head and you pass out; the amount of time it takes depends on how good of physical conditioning your are in, but regardless; it doesnt take long; I never say Baron Von Rushkie pinch a neck; but he used to grip the forhead and cause unconsciousness; most of the submission hold I know and some martial strikes cause unconsciousness or death, but nothing like the vulcan nerve pinch or more like it than the throat spike. I do know of some pinches or hold in the neck and shoulder region that can cause great cramping and some temporary paralysis but not unconsciousness unless perhaps the person blacked out from pain; everyone has a different pain threshold so this would not be as succcessful as in the tv program; though vulcans, being much stronger than humans, might be able to pinch hard enough to tramatize a nerve and cause unconsciousness; heeh well, my nerd rant for the day.

Is there anywhere where it explains how the Vulcan Neck Pinch theoretically works? Is it psionic or some kinda advanced acupuncture knowledge?
(raises one eyebrow)
At the risk of looking like a geek (LOL)
The idea behind the pinch is physical. The pinching is a short circuit of the nervous system that is supposed to create a sub-coma like state. If you remember, in one particular episode, Kirk says
"One of these days you are gonna have to teach me that"
Spock replies
"I have tried Captain"
with a subtle tone of frustration.
Since humans lack Psionics, this would indicate that it is physiological in nature.
*how was that on the geekage scale of 1-10?*

Data uses the Vulcan Neck Pinch in Unification II.
Hence, it's a simple (or not) matter of discipline and control. It is not a strictly psionic power.

IIRC only Vulcans have the strength to apply the needed pressure in the right place. Data, of course being mechanical could also. But hey, if you are that close shouldn't you just stab them with your ma'veq?

Not so. In the same linked text, it mentions Picard also using the method as well.
