You are in the city of Lukasport, in the realm of Umbria. This is the most cosmopolitan of cities, schools of wizardry crowd the plazas, taverns and inns catering to travellers from Europa across the channel serve the finest fare and feature the greatest bardic talents. Since the Blight of the Estervale, the breadbasket of Umbria, desperate souls have filled the streets of Lukasport in search of opportunity, or simply escape to the lands across the channel and beyond Europa's war blasted lands.
What brings you here? What will you find? Adventure? Riches? Danger?
This sounds quite open-ended, but there is an adventure in mind. One with plenty of danger, a bit of intrigue and some interesting twists before it's all done.
The open-endedness is to allow you room to decide who you are, and how you all fit together and within the realm of Umbria.
In brief, Umbria is the kingdom occupying the southern half of Great Umbria. This is basically and alternate world with fantasy elements.
The regions of Europa aren't worked out yet, and as long as you don't mess with the simplified cosmology, and Earth-like geography, you can invent anything out there you need for your background.
One notable difference in the world beyond Umbria, and mind you I'm no Harry Turtledove, is that Remus, not Romulus lived to found an empire...Reman and not Roman. This empire did not fare as well against Carthage and hence, faded from history as The Cartheginian empire prospered.
Here's some setting detail, for you to look over:

Wow. You have some very intriguing stuff posted here! I'm glad I couldn't sleep well.
Consider me very interested in joining up. I'd love to play a fighter-type: either front line tank or finesse fighter.
BTW, are we relegated to only Core races? I'd like to try a bugbear or even a tiefling, but I'm OK with the basics, too.
[EDIT] - I think I'm going to go with a finesse fighter, a Fighter 2/Rogue 4 Human from Germania. He is a master of twin short-swords. I see him as a mercenary who had to flee the mainland for some reason (killed nobleman in barroom brawl?), but has annoying tendency to look out for the "little guy".
I'll try to post him soon.

Oh, I'm not wanting to play in the game or filling a slot... I was merely making a humourous observation... as where the word Lukasport is on the map is where I live in real-life...
*shuffles off in embarrassed manner*
In that case, I'll take the fifth slot... :-)
Likely a fighter focused on archery feats though I can play a different role if needed.

Excellent, glad to see all the interest.
Here's a summary of what we've got, so far:
Torillan - Fighter-type (Yeah, just core races.)
ArchLich - ?
SargonX - Druid
Radavel - Arcanist (I read up on the Ultimate Magus, and it's fine)
Wicht - Fighter
I'm tempted to open a 6th slot, but I think 5 is what I can handle. I'll wait and see how balanced the party is. I'll open up a discussion thread soon, and link to it here.

Working out the character tonight, I think I settled on a Human Ftr4/Rog2 with the ability to enter the Order of the Bow prestige class at the next level. Rogue skills are focused on infiltration not pilfering.
The character is mainly an archer but is not completely without ability with a sword and shield. I am picturing him currently as former military.
A couple of questions... Any setting specific languages we should know about, or is there one mother language for all of Europa and Umbria? Is there any place for a soldier in the service of the church, as in the Cardinal's Guards (thinking three musketeers), or is the military mainly secular?

To answer your questions:
Language Yes, aside from regional languages, there is a Common language based on early Elvish. It takes the place of Latin in Europe as a root language.
Religious Militia Yes and no, there are Orders of Soldiers organized usually by rich nobles to serve the faith...often in protective duties. However, in regard to THE WAY OF THE EMBRACING SUN, there is no central authority, instead local councils of Twelve arbitrate matters of faith and answer collectively to the first council in Palestine. Individual orders vary in many ways, just as regional councils - so your background may have been a good experience or not, depending on your preference. Aside from the orders, there are of course monarchies, local nobles and such who have their own secular forces.
Invisible Castle I've no problem with it, the other link is a recent discovery, and just wanted to share.
ArchLich: Rogue/Cleric? I'm glad that you've decided on Cleric...One might come in handy, and I don't mean as a Medic. Although, I hope our multi-class fighter/rogue will be up to the task of saving you all from traps. :> ...insert evil laugh here...
Adventure Locales The adventure will start off with some intrigue in Lukasport, but will lead to adventures int he wilds, both below ground and above.
Hitpoints Full HD at 1st and 2nd lvl., then use these average hp (d4=3, d6=4, d8=5, d10=6, d12=7) for the remaining levels. If however you'd like to take your chances, feel free to roll.
