Second Darkness Adventure Path

I think we need a sub-section for Second Darkness. You guys brought up drow! And aboleths! There's going to be a lot of postulating. Give it a home...

In case anyone is confused, Second Darkness is the third AP. (cf the Paizo blog)

It probably does need it's own section. For those curious, there already has been some speculation in the pathfinder thread. Third Page

I still vote that the abreviation for "Second Darkness" be 2DAP!

I'm a huge Underdark fan, so I am looking forward to this one (appreciating potentially only part of the Path is going below).

For AGES, I've been keen on having an aboleth somewhere, ANYWHERE, as a villain, and I am excessively ecstatic that when this AP comes around, it will be my turn again to run it as DM. I've always enjoyed the *alien* in the game.

Try to track down the Night Below boxed set from second edition. Was a whole campaign from level 1 to mid teens or higher. First third is above ground in a rural area then it moves underground and

Spoiler:
Aboloth are the masterminds behind it. Expanding their dominate abilities by hundreds of miles is what they're attempting. To stop them the heroes eventually must infiltrate one of their cities and put a stop to this project.

Kinda an early AP but it doesn't have quite the individual segments. Real good for a group that is into roleplaying and dealing with different power groups both good and bad. Lots of side areas that players can check out for exp or extra loot. Another surprising thing was that drow weren't included in the adventure except as a side trek that could be developed.

Only real problem would be converting it to 3.5 :(

Hopefully we'll get a female drow lead as nice on the eyes as Shahng from Dungeon 119 was. :)

There's just something so delightfully warped about elves who live in non-elven areas deep underground, who worship demons, who have a sadistic matriarchal society, and who have all sorts of creepy magic items and tricks up their sleeves.

Good stuff here James, but one nit-pick. Sort of a redundancy, eh? I mean, *any* matriarchal society is going to be sadistic.

Spoiler:
I am, of course, joking.

Or check out "The Styes" from Dungeon #121. :-)

Yeah, I put an Aboleth town in the underdark of Empire of the Ghouls. It's quite an odd little place... and a very fun encounter.

Aboleths... very intriguing. I came across an interesting way to explain their racial memory the other day. I haven't compared the Ecology from Dragon 131, or the info in Lords of Madness, yet but it's gotten the gears in my brain working overtime.

I had some fun with them in the Lightless Depths when I ran Savage Tide.

I just finished w/ Sgothgah today, and then came to the boards for this little bit of synchronicity :) Awesome adventure, as many have said, and I plan to dive into the sequel asap.

Back on topic, an Underdark-based AP is a fantastic idea. A great way to introduce critters not normally encountered by the PC's on the surface of Golarion. Now I'm curious how expansive and permissive the 4.0 OGL will be, as there's definitely some iconic critters I'd like you to be able to use for this AP.
