I'll be running the adventure tomorrow night and have a questions about Area 7:
It says that the Loadstone trap can be disabled if it is "struck by another electrical discharge".
Does stepping on another "trapped" pressure plate disable the trap and cause 1d6 damage? Or must the trap be targeted by an electrical effect?
I'm hoping that the pressure plates are what kicks it off, but I think that the 1d6 per plate is a bit much for 2nd level characters. Maybe 1 point per active plate. Ex, Activate (1 point), pull 5', pull 5' (1 point).
Also, if the PCs don't all advance into the room, one person could be stuck battling the Trap and the 2 Vargoiles. Would you suggest on onset time of 1 round to get everyone in?
Any help is appreciated!

I would rule that the trap must be targeted by an electrical effect. In fact after the first pressure plate discharge, I would rule there are no more discharges too.

Yeah, I agree 1d6 is enough for me, so I would rule that only the first pressure plate triggered goes off. No others do. Otherwise its just too much.
Also, if the PCs don't all advance into the room, one person could be stuck battling the Trap and the 2 Vargoiles. Would you suggest on onset time of 1 round to get everyone in?

Yep, that's deadly. Up to you my man. May want to wait until at least two PCs are in the room (I do like splitting the party, but then again you don't want to get murder-licious either).
Good luck with the adventure!

Maybe strength rolls to try and force open the doors each round.
I like the loadstone trap, its got good foreshadowing and its unusual.
I'm assuming the dwarves designed the Vargouilles as part of the trap (why else make the 'prison' alcoves), so how are the Vargouilles getting reset back into the alcoves? Given the foreshadowing and the room description, the trap has gone off before why aren't the Vargouilles flying around the chamber (or off in the countryside by now?)
Also given the lack of heads on the corpses in the room description, where are all the other Vargouilles?

I like Strength checks to force the doors. I allowed this in the delve at Gencon on the fly and it was good fun.
Yeah, I imagine some of the vargoiulles retreat to the alcoves to digest their meals, or maybe they were trained too by the dwarves, but some go flying off into the Vale (hence more headless corpses than vargouille).
I imagine there is a vargouille problem in the Vale since people started poking around the old monastery. It's only gonna get worse too. I love vargouille, something about your friend's deformed head flying at you cackling really freaks me out.

Thanks for the info! I think I'll decide when to pull the doors on them based on the current HP sanding. It might still be pretty early in the game, depending on which way they go.
And I'll use the same STR DC as prying yourself off the Loadstone.
BTW, my favorites are the Abbot's quarter and Glintaxe (especially Glintaxe)!
Thanks again!
