Used Book Stores FTW!

Off-Topic Discussions

So I go to the local used book store yesterday and what do I find but both Crown of the Kobold King and Conqueror of the Bloodsworn Vale. Without trying to think too much about what idiot would decide to sell those away, I decided to get them.

Actually, only Crown of the Kobold King because I soon discovered that I didn't have enough cash on me. :(

But still, CotKK has been cool so far. I'm reading through it.

Anyone else found other great finds at used book stores?

At mine I've found:
-The two GameMastery modules I just listed.
-1e DMG
-1e Fiend Folio
-Appetite for Destruction by Guns n' Roses
-Systematic Chaos by Dream Theater
-The Greatest Hits of Creedence Clearwater Revival
-Some funny Life in Hell books

Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction

perhaps, my favorite read of all time.

Liberty's Edge

I found a Clark Ashton Smith Zothique paperback from the seventies.
Also, about 6 months back, there was a massive 3.5 e. book dump at Half Price Books, a semi national used book chain store.

Yea, I found one copy of just about everything Mongoose and Bastion press has ever put out, a few Troll
lord titles, and a pristine copy of Necromancer Games The Tomb of Abysthor (which I picked up).

So far this is the only good thing to come out of 4e - people selling off their old stuff!!!

When I worked at Goodwill I found:
-1956 edition of The Divine Comedy, with all of the Gustave Dore engravings
-1st edition Dungeon Master's Guide and Monster Manual
-The creepiest bust of Jesus I've ever seen; unfortunately a customer bought it before I could
-Lots of records
-Edward Gorey's "Gashlycrumb Tinies"- J is for James, who drank lye by mistake.
-Half completed child's Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles costume, which a friend wanted to get arrested in, but no dice.

At a local used book/movie store more of a warehouse really, there is about a 25ft long by 8ft tall section of RPG books from D&D 1st 2nd 3.X, White Wolf, Mongoose, to pretty much anything. They have an unbelievable selection of "normal" books and movies to. You can usually find most D&D books that aren't new releases for about half to a third retail price. Needlessly to say since I found this place I have bought alot of D&D books that I would not have normally bought.

Used book stores are a gamers best friend. Now if they would only start carrying used minis and dice.

DF is so right I've noticed several stacks of core books in the floor of this store. I think other people (players) and retail stores are starting to dump surplus because of 4th ed. which if fine by me!!!!!!!

I have a Perrault's Fairy Tales from my childhood, with Dore engravings. He's freakin' crazy. Wicked good stuff.

The Puss in boots cat has little dead mice and bird skulls hanging off of his swordbelt.

My all-time favorite childrens' book. Part of the reason why I am how I am now.

Woah...I went to my used book store tonight. They had a shelf of "banned books" there. Where's Waldo was banned because it had a lady with her bikini top off!!!

I was walking past a used bookstore the other day and saw they had the old Victory Games James Bond 007: Roleplaying in Her Majesty's Secret Service up for sale. Didn't see the price.

A few months ago I bought the old Blue book Basic set with The Keep on the Borderlands and a "Permanent Character Log" for good measure. The Basic set still had the little number chits from when you couldn't buy dice (and they didn't give you a set with the game). The copy of The Keep on the borderlands had been cut crooked by the printer. It was kind of a parallelogram instead of a rectangle. I bought the thing for $2 at St. Vincent DePaul, but they had sealed the box with packing tape.

Half Price Books had another 3.5 dump last night.
There were 2 Eberron campaign books, about 3 different Eberron splat books 3-5 copies of each, man all kinds of stuff.

Y'all're making me want to make the Half Price Books rounds today. I think we have three or four of them here.

That Where's Waldo? book being banned is stupid. I owned every Waldo book as a child, and I had to look up that picture to see what they were talking about. Not only did I not remember ever seeing it, it's not even that bad really. It's kinda funny.
