So what about the rest of y'all? What's your character idea for my game Freehold? Do you have character guidelines for Dragonlance? I have the basic campaign book and I can't wait to use it! What about you, Vexer? Did Icon get my emails about my character for his campaign?

...I feel like a 6 year old waiting for Xmas...

I'm still hazy on what the plan is. Are we choosing an ongoing campaign or are we doing a round robin of one-shots? Nick - Golarion, Tequila - Riven, then Icon - Dragonlance? Keep in mind that last time I checked we were talking about meeting one time a month!

I'm interested in running a one shot. I travel a LOT. I also do shows making me unavailable for weeks at a time. So I'm proposing to run a one shot for y'all on December 8th, if that works. If you'd rather do something else on that day, I'd love to come and play for a session too if its possible. Whatever you all prefer works great for me, just happy to throw the dice with some fellow Paizonians.

I'm good with the concept of playing through the occasional one-shot, but its a very different experience than campaigning. With one-shots I'd rather experiment with disposable odd character builds or pregens than invest in a real alter-ego.

Much as I'd love to play at your table, Nick, as I said I'm spoken for on 12/8. But it might please you to know I'm DMing a slightly modified Crown of the Kobold King in my regular game. We did the Jeva encounter on Thursday and it was a blast from both the roleplaying and tactical perspectives.

Damn you downstate people! I really need to get out of this black hole of gaming.

Icon - Dragonlance?

That would be a neat trick, seeing as how I've only read the first Dragonlance trilogy (twenty years ago) and generally don't care for the setting. Running a Dragonlance campaign to me is like a Star Wars game. The only time I'd really want to play is during the original trilogy of each, and then who cares what the players do? The cool stuff gets done by the Other Guys from the canon. The PCs don't get to kill Khisanth, they don't get to blow up the Death Star. Unless someone wants to be Sturm's garçon de pisse the party is nowhere near the important action.

My best intention is that I'll run Pathfinder, using the same games I make for the gaming group at my school along with the Rise of the Runelords series. My big issue, which is turning into more of a problem all of the time, is that I've become something of the de facto special ed guru at my school thanks to our new head of SpecEd being more interested in insulting teachers at meetings and half the SpecEd staff deciding the last thing they needed to worry about doing is their jobs. While last year I had all the free time I wanted, this year it's a premium that seems to vanish a little faster all the time.

And someone correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't we supposed to end up at a dive bar at some point to drink? I remember there was talk of alcohol once upon a time. Getting smashed might not be as much fun as running an epic campaign*, but it also doesn't take seven hours of prep every time I want to do it...

*Who am I kidding? Of course it is.

THE OFFICIAL PLAN is as follows: We will set up our next meeting, at which time we will play a session of someone's game. Before our next meeting though, we will vote on whose game to play first and create (or pregen) characters for this game. So, now is the time to vote on your game of choice:

Tequila: Riven continuous (lighthearted, rules-loose game of sickening cultural rip-offs)

Freehold: Dragonlance (?) (lighthearted, dramatic, action-packed or horrific game, depending on what kind of characters are created)

Nick: Golarion one-shot (self-explanatory?)

Icon: Pathfinder continuous

Vexer: Ravenloft (?) (horrific game where Evil always triumphs because Good is dumb)

If I've left anyone out, I apologize. Let me know if I did and I'll put your game into the running.

If you have anything to say about the game you intend to run, speak now or forever hold your peace (or at least until we vote on the next game). It would also help to include any significant house rules or variants that you intend to use. I myself plan to run Riven as a continuous game, but if another game gets interrupted due to DM inavailability, Riven can also be run during the gaps of the other game. I hope that everyone gives Riven a glance; as Freehold said it is simple and spare because I want the players to have a hand in shaping it. I use a few house rules to make the game simpler, easier to run and more freeform, so be sure to check those out too.

Please, everyone vote so that we can get this ball rolling! Don't feel bad not voting for one game or another, we're all adults and know that this is not a popularity contest. (hahaha, that's what we tell the losers!) So once we've voted on a campaign or one-shot to run, we'll schedule our next meeting, make characters and then actually play at the next meeting. Optimally, all further monthly meetings will be used to play that game until it is done. In the event of DM absentia, we will use a meeting or two to run another DM's game.

Well, if next meeting is 12/8, there is no point in me voting as I won'tbe there. Also, I'm not going to be running Ravenloft anytime soon, I just recommended the setting to Disa 'cuz she likes that kind of thing.

We will most probably not be playing on the 8th, as several of us have other things to do that weekend. The important thing is that if you intend on making our monthly meetings/sessions, by all means vote.

Ravenloft is officially off the list, unless someone volunteers to run it.

Cool! I can do January too! You all can help me playtest some things then if you want.

Okay, aside from not being able to play the only day Nick can, I most want to try his Pathfinder/ Golarion one shot. After that is Icon's Golarion (though I'm spoiled for the first 2 installments of Rise of the Runelords). Dragonlance and Riven are third and fourth with me, respectively.

Playtest? You have my attention. What's your vote for which game to play?

My first choice is my own game, followed by Icon's Pathfinder, then Dragonlance and the one-shot Pathfinder.

I'll be tweaking things a bit. So far I'm loving the RotRl series, but I think I read that the events in the storyline takes place in about a year and I can't begin to tell you how much it bothers me to think of characters going to nearly epic levels in twelve months (or fewer). If you've read the first two parts of Runelords, don't sweat it. What I'm envisioning is has a much wider scope.

Vote, vote, vote, everyone!

Hey, sorry I've been away from the boards, things got really hairy at work, but things are better now...or at least that's what I keep telling myself. To be honest, I thought we were going to schedule our own games and then see who showed up, but hey, voting is both democratic and sound. My vote is for all things Golarionian(sp?), with Dragonlance going second and Tequila's homebrew third.

Several of us, including I believe Icon, Skootro and myself, are already running regular games elsewhere in addition to what is proposed here.

My own group, with a Greyhawk setting centered on Sasserine, the Amedio Jungle and the nearby sea (but not otherwise using much Savage Tide material) is currently at third level and meets on Wednesdays or sometimes Thursdays at Neutral Ground about twice a month on average (we have tricky variable schedules). I DM with 3-4 players, and we could take one or two more, particularly either a bricky melee martial character or a solid arcane spellcaster. Currently have an elf ranger (archer style), half-elf beguiler/swashbuckler, darfellan cleric of Pelor, and gnome bard. If anybody is interested in playing that, let me know.

That was my original thought, but I was getting the vibe that most of us already have games going and aren't interested in more than one more game. As there are only 6-8 of us, I decided the only way that we would get a reliable game going is to direct all of our attention to a single game. If we can get a good schedule and people show up reliably, I can see us having two games going with two different groups at once.

Of course, any DM is free to advertise their own game outside of our meetings. As it looks like we won't be playing Riven at our paizo meets, I will at some point start a game outside of paizo group and be inviting everyone. If I'm wrong about most of us not being interested in more than one game, I hope people will speak up.

I think the best net for me may be to show up sporadically to various one shot games. I'm working like a beast right now and I'm running a weekly campaign so I can't offer too much of a commitment.

That's fine. Another vote for the Nick's Galorian one-shot.

The first official paizo group game will be declared this Saturday, so if you haven't voted yet don't miss your chance!

We will officially be playing Nick's Galorian one-shot! After that, we'll be playing Icon's Galorian campaign. So that leaves us with our scheduling issues. I'd like to meet on 12/15 or maybe 12/1.

Awright! All aboard the Golarion Express. I say we meet up the first- I know it's short notice for some, but I'd like to keep our meetups towards the beginning of the month regularly.

Anyone else have an opinion here? I'd rather go for the 15th because I won't be able to play past 5:30 on the 1st.

Hrm..the 15th sucks for me because my fiancee's birthday is the next day and I have to work earlier in that day- the 1st is really the only workable day for me.

I already made plans for 12/1 and 12/8. 12/15 is okay for me.

Hm, well it looks like we have a bit of an issue here. At this rate though, it might not matter since everyone still seems to be sleeping off their Thanksgiving turkey...

Hi folks, I was off the boards for a while, but I've caught up with the thread. I'm cool with the choice to go with a Pathfinder/Golarion one-shot either this month or next month, as scheduling demands.

But I thought the difficulty of getting everyone together and the chance to try out new game rules/settings were reasons to go with a rotation of short games? Is the plan to go with Icon's game for a few months/sessions, or for an extended campaign? I can participate in a 2nd monthly campaign (besides Vexer's Sasserine one), but I'd prefer to also have a crack at other settings & DM'ing-styles as well, if possible.

As for actual scheduling, while Saturday seems to be the best day for everyone, we could do a Sunday for a packed month like December. I'm cool with any Sunday except the 16th, including this Sunday if it doesn't snow/rain too badly.

I don't suppose there's ever going to be a unification of Upstate New Yorkers...

Well Nick's game will be a one-shot but after that I think a campaign will kick in. Although a continuous series of one-shots might turn out to be the only viable way to play if that's what everyone decides. I'd be happy with this Sunday although I would have to leave at 5:30.

David: I recommend that you try. I grew up in upstate NY and I think gathering upstate gamers is easier than gathering NYC gamers in some ways. Plus, I might be able to pop in for a game session or two when I visit my folks.

Ahhh, I'm just bitter.

Well I'd like to hang out with anyone who's willing tomorrow before I go to work in the evening, even if we're not ready to play a game. Drop me a call or an email if anyone is interested--Not_My_Father@yahoo.com--I'll be checking my messages.

Hey, that sounds like it could be a plan. Let's use Nick's one shot as a starting point for Regular Golarion Gaming. After that, we'll do the short series of adventures.

Tequila, I'll be in the city today- I'll give you a buzz before I leave.

Well it looks like this game isn't happening this month, what with the Red Hole and all. I'll check in with y'all at month's end.

That's completely understandable, but I'd still like to see some people after the holiday madness passes- manhattan's quite beautiful in the aftermath. Maybe we can raise a mug together on, say the 29th or 30th, or is that a bad time for people?

Well, personally, I've got a friend coming to town that week, but Christmas-New Years' week is hellish for traveling into Manhattan (even more so than other December weekends). The 15th is probably the best bet, but if that's a no-go, we'll have to table to January, I'd say.

If we're angling for a regular campaign, why not hash out some preliminaries online during this time? We can at least start thinking about character concepts with some DM-input/direction.

Unfortunately I'm working on the 29th and 30th nights, so no go for me on the paizo toast. I'd love to whip up some characters in the meantime but Nick said he's using pregens for his one-shot. I think we're going to have to wait until January for a game, as most of us seem to have been swallowed by the Red Hole.

Hokay, I have officially recovered from the convention- I ran into some people from here there and said hey while slinging video games of a lascivious nature. I'm still up for an end-of-year toast. I'm thinking of moving it to Friday the 27th instead of Saturday or Sunday to get the going-home-from-work crowd does anyone think they may be able to make it that day instead? If not, then I'll move it back to saturday and just see who makes it.

Also, since it's getting close to the beginning of a new month, I thought I'd also bring up the topic of when we are going to meet up again for official business. Give me some shouts on what times are good for everyone.

I'll be around Christmas week.

Calling Nicholas Logue! Nicky boy!

I hope everyone had a great holiday, but now that they're over we need to get down to serious business. Freehold told me he has a wedding to plan around and I've been itching to set a first session date for a while, so when's it gonna be? My schedule is pretty random, and shapable after January 13th, so I'll leave it up to Nick to make some first suggestions.

It was great hanging out with Tequila at Maui's- just two dudes hanging out and stuffing our faces talkin' D&D. It was great- and yes Mandisaw, you were absolutely correct about it being packed with tourists.

As to the gaming aspect, I fully welcome any and all new yorkers who have yet to join the yahoogroup to do so or give us a shout on the board so we can get our act together and play sometimes in '08, or even January!

Well Nick seems to be MIA for the moment, so I think we should get this ball rolling even if we can’t start with his one-shot game. To get everyone together and rolling dice, I’d like to run a Dungeon one-shot. Nothing fancy—Order of the Stick style, rules as written, 20th level, anything goes. You can roll for stats, use point buy—whatever lights up your will-o-the-wisp. I think it’d be great if everyone made their characters on this thread, as we’ll be playing under the assumption that all your characters have been adventuring with each other for years. Also feel free to make creative, even questionable requests regarding your character. How does Sunday the 13th sound to everyone?

Sunday the 13th....I'll post soon as to whether or not it works for me. In the meantime, post away.

Is everyone MIA?

Tequila Sunrise wrote:

Nope, I was on vacation for a while, but I'm still here. Heh.

Is the plan to get together this Sunday afternoon? It seems like Neutral Ground is free for open gaming that day, but their website/schedule is not the clearest.

BTW, are we going to do character creation in-person or at-home? I would prefer to have some ideas researched ahead of time for a full-blown campaign, and all my material is at home. On the other hand, I'd like to hold off on making any sort of a firm decision until discussing things with the GM and other players.

I don't see Sunday happening this time around, especially since most of us seem to be otherwise occupied. As to the place, I'm not a huge fan of Neutral Ground and will happily volunteer my apartment but I expect that Queens won't a central place for everyone.

I'd be happy to make a pregen (or ten) for anyone who doesn't care to make a character for just a one-shot, but I'll leave it open to individual preference. In the event that we ever get an actual campaign going, I fully expect that character creation will be much more of an event, at least with the DM.
