Fantasy Grounds -- Rise of the Runelords AP

Gamer Connection

I'm going to run the Rise of the Runelords AP for a few friends via Fantasy Grounds II. We have two players right now, and I'd love a full contingent of four. We're looking to play every other week, one weeknight evening (probably Monday night), at about 10:30 EST for a few hours.

I'm looking for two players who have (or are willing to get) Fantasy Grounds II, are decent roleplayers as well as rollplayers, and who can commit to the above-described regular schedule. Right now we have a paladin, and my second player is flexible. So I'd like to see folks willing to fill the arcane/divine/skill-monkey roles. Oh yeah, I'd prefer NOT to have someone who is a pathfinder subscriber or who intends to read spoilery messageboard stuff about the AP. That said, if you really want in and you are a good enough player to RP without reference to meta/OOC knowledge, I can probably live with that.

We're going to be using a 32-point buy character build, and sticking MOSTLY to SRD stuff though I may allow various feats, spells, etc. from other reputable sources occasionally upon request. My strong preference would be to stick with SRD since that is how the AP is built.

All interested in applying, please do the following:

Present a thumbnail sketch of your character, using the free Player's Guide pdf. Give me race, class, and a brief description of what you have in mind. I'll select the top two entries in terms of compatibility with my intent for the game. Hope to hear from some of you soon!

BUMP -- Sorry to bump my own post, this thread is in the basement of the messageboards, hoping to catch someone's attention!

Malabar Mo,
Heya. Are you guys set on Monday evening? I'm running a game that night but I'd certainly be interested if you guys were doing a night other than Monday or Sunday. I have FGII though I haven't used it yet for play - working on a SW Saga edition ruleset right now.

I am a Pathfinder subscriber and have looked over (but not read in-depth) #1. I would be willing to shelve future issues if I was playing in the game and am not opposed to playing a 'dumb' type character (barbarian, fighter, rogue techie) that doesn't offer much direction in-game.

Anyway, it's a possibility if you're still looking for another player and aren't set on Monday. Would love to try out FGII and Pathfinder looks like much fun. Just let me know. Thanks!

Michael:

Sorry I'm slow to respond. I'm sure we can accomodate a different night of the week -- in fact, Thursday is starting to look like the optimum night for me. Just keep in mind it will be on the late tip (depending on where you live), starting at 10:30EST.

Don't worry about playing a "dumb" PC, as long as you can keep your meta knowledge distinct from what your player knows, I'm fine. In fact, you're welcome to go with an arcane or divine caster if interested -- we have one PC committed to a battle-ready paladin, and another who hasn't decided but is a little burnt out on arcane magic and leaning toward diveine or skill monkey. Let me know what your thoughts are -- loads of potential for a Varisian sorcerer or rogue, Chelish wizard, etc. I love this setting!

Bump!

Thanks! Yeah, Thursday would be fine for me and 10:30 EST is not a problem because I'm on the west coast. I work at home so timing isn't an issue in any case - my schedule is pretty flexible.

I think I can probably keep them separated but I'm happy to just shelve the adventures until after we play through them.

I'm not big on splatbooks (though I own a bunch) and such so I'd probably play core. Not so big on multiclassing and level-dipping either. I'm probably a little burnt on arcane myself (at least wizards, having just lost mine after playing from 1-13 in Age of Worms). Sorcerer is a possibility though if the group needs arcane casting.

Maybe something with an 'eastern' flair? Paizo saw fit to drop in some "Tian Xia" action and I could get into doing a 'Chinese-esque' character. What do you think about a sorcerer from the east?

If you want you can reach me at michaela at acaciarg.com. Looking forward to hearing from you and trying out FGII - FINALLY!
M

Edit: I see now that I suffer from a failure to follow directions. Let me read through the players' guide again and come up with a more concrete character sketch for you. I've got a fair bit of real-world work to do tomorrow but I think I can get to it by tomorrow evening.

Okay, I went ahead and spent some time with this. If the flavor's not right (if you just want native Varisians) then I'm happy to try something else. I speak a little Mandarin, though, so I've been wanting to try a character from "The East" and Tian Xia seemed like a good opportunity.

32 point buy. Took avg. starting gold (75gp) for a sorc. Have to doublecheck everything when I'm less worn out but I think it's okay.

Li Xiaolong hails from Tian Xia and she is a very, very long way from home - not that anyone there much cares. It seems Shang Di did not smile upon the day of her birth. Her father, the founder of a booming merchant company, had desperately hoped for a son to carry on the family business. To his dismay, he received Xiaolong instead - and lost his beloved wife, Meihua, in the bargain as the pain of childbirth proved too much for her to bear.

No surprise, then, that Xiaolong was pretty much on her own - shunned by her father and her extended family alike as cursed by the dragon above. Growing up alone she learned the streets and alleys of Haishang, the bustling harbor city of her birth, and as she blossomed into a beautiful teenager she connected with the wrong sort of people.

When she was 16 she fell in love with Hanla, a roguish con artist. Also around that time she manifested the ability to perform small tricks and Hanla quickly put her to use in his growing schemes. For a while she enjoyed being the bait in Hanla's honey traps but, as his demands grew, she began to regret her association with him and decided to break it off.

Things did not go smoothly. Hanla caused a scene when she told him that she was leaving, and the other members of his nascent criminal organization bore mute witness to their boss' diulian - though they mocked him mercilessly afterward. He was unhappy to say the least.

One night, shortly afterward, as she traveled to the Li family docks (from which she would follow her father home each night), Hanla caught up with Xiaolong with the goal of "teaching her a lesson". He grabbed her by the wrists and drew back his fist to strike. Angry, but also afraid for her life, she unleashed a barrage of arcane energy that left Hanla laying on the dock, smoke rising from a ragged wound in his chest.

Hanla was dead. Worse, her father had witnessed the whole event. He told Xiaolong to leave and never come back - or he would turn her over to the authorities. She did as she was told, seeking out one of the waiguoren ships often in port of late and begged the captain for passage from Haishang to...anywhere.

As the ship left port and began its long voyage to a place called Magnimar Xiaolong cooked and cleaned to earn her passage - and, in her spare time, she began to explore her rapidly expanding ability to manipulate arcane energies. Perhaps her father's choice of names was more appropriate than he knew. Perhaps she does possess the blood of dragons...
