'Thassilon' Archanamach?

Rise of the Runelords

Liberty's Edge

One of my players is looking to go Varisian Spellthief with the interest of taking levels of Suel Archanamach (Comp Arcane).

It seems like a good fit, just replace the Suel empire with Thassilon. I was wondering if there was an NPC who could be a good mentor for such a character in the game already (I can always make one, just curious), and if maybe they were an order of enforcers for the Runelords or something? (still reading the section of Thassilon so don't know it all yet)

While Thassilon and the Suel Empire do have some corollaries... the big difference is that there's not really anyone left from Thassilon, where there are folks left from the Suel Empire. Thassilon crashed and burned 10,000 years ago. It's mostly forgotten, except for the monuments they left behind and in the legends and myths of the Shoanti and the Varisian peoples. Many sages study these monuments and myths, but in the same way that modern scholars study Atlantis and Mu (or perhaps ancient Egypt, since there ARE monuments left over to look at). Rise of the Runelords chronicles the return of Thassilon to modern knowledge, in many ways.

All of that means that there's not really anyone to train you into becoming an Archanamach. Yet. It might be cool, though, if your player starts studying the Thassilonian stuff over the course of the campaign, to let him "self teach" himself into becoming an archanamach. There certainly could have been an order like the archanamachs in ancient Thassilon, after all.

That will probably work out, ancient tomes and heiroglyphs and such. The mechanical flavor is what really fits (I'm not very familiar with the Suel empire personally). I could definately see the Shoanti having some knowledge on the subject since they were the more martial of Thassilon's people.

Thanks for the info James
