I read over on EN World and the Lone Wolf Development site that there is a Pathfinder tie in to their Hero Lab!
I hope I'm not stealing anyone's thunder since I can't find it here on Paizo...I was just looking for some more info.

Is this the same sort of deal that Green Ronin made with Lone Wolf, i.e. Did Paizo grant an exclusive license? Are other character generators like PCGen still able to distribute free data sets?
Anyway, I can't use Lone Wolf software since I don't run Windows. And i'm not planning to go back to windows for any character generator, however great it may be.

well, it appears to be a character creator. i'm not sure if i'm allowed to put the post here, but i will anyway:
"10-Aug-2007 Paizo's Pathfinder Coming Soon to Hero Lab
Paizo Publishing®, LLC and Lone Wolf Development™ have announced that Paizo's eagerly awaited Pathfinder series of monthly Adventure Path™ modules will be fully supported by Hero Lab, the revolutionary RPG character software from Lone Wolf Development. Hero Lab users will have access to custom character types, unique items, and character art galleries featuring Pathfinder artwork. As part of an extensive partnership between the two companies, Pathfinder subscribers will also receive access to Hero Lab and the Pathfinder data files as an added benefit of their subscription. Hero Lab will support the generation of character sheets, stat blocks, and other game materials in the same format used in Pathfinder books.
"We've been delighted by the enthusiastic reception that Pathfinder has received, and we're equally delighted to be partnering with Lone Wolf Development. They've demonstrated time and again their ability to deliver software that offers unprecedented utility and flexibility to gamers. Hero Lab will be an incredible aid to our readers and players," said Erik Mona, Paizo's Publisher.
Rob Bowes, President of Lone Wolf Development, said, "When we first learned about Pathfinder, we knew that Paizo would bring gamers some of the best roleplaying adventure material that money can buy. Both Hero Lab users and Pathfinder readers are on the leading edge of the curve of RPG play, so a partnership between our two companies was a natural step. We couldn't be happier to be supporting the Pathfinder line."
The first Pathfinder data files for Hero Lab are tentatively slated for release this fall. For more information, go to paizo.com and wolflair.com."

Is it just a simple character generator? Which HeroForge does thousand times better for free?
Hear! Hear! I agree completely, I've used HeroForge for free for a couple of years now, and they keep it pretty up to date. I don't think I'll be dropping $35.00 for a character generator ANY time soon, heck, thats another Pathfinder issue and a GameMastery Module!

I don't think you have to pay. To quote the press release:
Paizo's Pathfinder™ Coming Soon to Hero Lab™Pathfinder data files to be released this fall.

(emphasis mine)
Kind of implies that Hero Lab is free with subscription to Pathfinder.

Alas, this press release was poorly worded, which is why it's not up on paizo.com yet -- we're rewriting it.
The deal is, if you buy Hero Lab you'll have access to the Pathfinder data files, whether you're a Pathfinder subscriber or not.

It's more than just a simple character generator. It's a generator tool for PC's and NPC's. It's a Journaling tool. It keeps up with all the little niggly things that we so often forget like encumbrence etc. Craft Items and Armor. Keep track of your spellbook. and so on and so forth. You can edit your datasets or create your own custom sets. It's actually very much worth the $35 bucks. I use their Army Builder program for 40K and Warmachine. It is really probably the best program out there, IMO. I don't have Excel on my PC so Heroforge isn't viable for me. BUT I suggest that if you havn't checked it out then you SHOULD check out HeroLab.

I'd be interested to try HeroLab (I use CardVault and am very happy with it).
However, I'm waiting for the availability of the Pathfinder data sets for HeroLab before doing the whole installation thing on the computer.
Does anyone know when the Pathfinder data sets for HeroLab will be available?

I noticed on Lone Wolf's website that a new version of HeroLab has been released, but there is still no mention of when the Pathfinder datasets will be available for HeroLab.
Can anyone provide any insight?
