Nobility and political intrigue

3.5/d20/OGL

It looks like my campagin is moving into nobility and political intrigue in near future and I need noble families. Anybody have or know a good place to get info on already made noble/royal families for a fantasy setting? Any suggestions on supplements I should look at to run a politcal campagin?

Look under royalty in any encylopedia or search engine. If you are wanting in game royalty, that may take a bit longer. Let me think on it and get back to you.

If you are looking for noble families, look at several of the 2nd ed. products for Waterdeep. Volo's Guide to Waterdeep and the City of Splendors boxed set come immediately to mind as sources of noble families, and to a lesser extent the Waterdeep book in 3.5.

Royalty, though, is a bit tougher. Maybe the 2nd ed. book Cormyr?

The pc's are currently in Maztica, so I don't think I will steal any nobility stuff from any other FR sources since they probably will head over to Faerun sooner or later I'm sure. But I guess it wont hurt to take a look at those ad&d source books.

I'm sure I have read about a d20 book which deals with a political campagin, but don't remember the name.

O.

I'm not sure if you mean that you are going to have this political intrigue part of your campaign in Maztica or elsewhere...btw isn't Forgotten Realms actually Faerun?

Anyway a few sources you could try:

"A Song of Ice and Fire" is a series by George R. R. Martin and contains excellent depictions of noble families with indexes of the families in question at the backs of the books. ("A Game of Thrones", "A Clash of Kings", "A Storm of Swords" "A Feast for Crows" are the actual novels) If you wanted to you could also get the rpg game book which contains the same info, though the setting information might be more than what you desire.

Also there's the Birthright stuff, and Harn, either of which you could probably adapt easily, Birthright more so since it is actually for D&D.

If you're not restricted to "rated PG" gaming, you should definitely read Mario Puzo's The Family, about the Borgias.

Liberty's Edge

you could look over at birthright.net, they have converted the D&D 2e setting of nobility and politics into 3.5

Power of Faerûn! If you're looking for Meso-American material, I can't help.

Gary Jennings, Aztec.

Hmm, Birthright and Harn stuff could work. I think I have a couple of books I have to dig up from the basement.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks.

I'm not sure how many sessions the political stuff will last, but the city the pc's are in have traveled from one ice world to Maztica. And after a while they went to war on Helmsport and won, but now Amn want the land back and have contacted the pc's to try to get aid from them, or stay out of the fight. It seems that the players will aid Amn (since the current ruler is "bad"), but they want to put a friendly ruler from their own nobility on the throne. So I only need to make some noble houses and what they feel about each other, about war, amn and the players.

And stuff from either Harn og Birthright could work here.

O.

Cool, let us know what you decide and if we can help any further.
