Well, Peruhain's peregrinations will be taking him to Winston-Salem NC for a year or perhaps more. Are there any Paizonians out there who live in the Winston-Salem-Greensboro-High Point area and have room at their table? I might even be persuaded to DM if I can use published material. Alternatively, suggestions on FLGS and other avenues for hooking up with local gamers would be much appreciated! I'll be arriving around August 10th.

Well I live in Winston...but I'm pretty sure I'm younger than you. Like extremely younger. And since my group is within a similar age range...
EDIT: Well you don't have a profile with an age listed, but if your moving to Winston-Salem is not due to one of your parents getting a new job etc. (you being young enough to still live with your parents), then you're probably older than most of the guys in my group.
However, the only gaming store of any sort that we know of here in Winston is actually a comic store called Silver Bullet Comics. It doesn't have many gaming materials available in it (just dice and some old books), but it does offer in-store gaming. And if you don't game there, I think you can at least come and ask around about joining a group or about posting a Wanted ad for a group.
And if you come on a Saturday evening between 5 and 10 pm and see a group of teenagers playing D&D...that's probably my group. :)
Good luck to you on finding somewhere to game. I hope that you enjoy Winston when you get here.

Curiously, I just posted almost the same query. I don't live there yet, but give me two weeks...
If I may ask, why are you relocating? The one year deal sounds very similar to my situation, as I will be working at Wake Forest for a year (at least). When I get there, I will be looking for gamers.
And I will definitely be checking out hte SIlver Bullet too. Thanks.

Thanks for the FLGS info Max . . . yes, I'm a lot older than your group--old enough for it to be impolite to ask my age ;) I've gamed quite a bit with teenagers, however--since I have a son your age and a gaggle of nephews and nieces who like to play whenever I visit home.
And yes, I'm at Wake Forest, too. I just found out an old gamer buddy of mine is teaching in Greensboro as well. Anyway, good to know some Paizonians are in Winston-Salem, and I'll hook up with y'all after I get there.

Many, many gaming opportunities abound with the Demon Deacons. There's the 'Mazes & Monsters' group (no kidding...really, no kidding; they're mostly faculty), and the Last Dungeoneers, a 20-year old group that just keeps cycling through students.

Well you future Winston gamers aren't gonna like this.
You know Silver Bullet that I've just been telling you about? It's this Saturday night. My friend picked me up so we can go to the store to play D&D. We arrive to find the store empty. All the decals are removed from the windows (somewhat) and the store has been completely gutted. A sign about leasing the area is posted on the window.
We still don't know if the store has just moved or if it's truly gone, but none of the people at the store told us about anything the previous week.
If I find out more, I'll keep you guys posted. But at the moment, the curse of Winston-Salem Gaming has hit yet another store that allowed in-store gaming. First Pair-A-Dice and now Silver Bullet. This sucks.

...it has been ten years since I was in the area...

Greensboro lost two gaming stores in the past few years, as well. I do most of my book ordering via amazon.com, these days, but there's a game store near burlington, if I recall correctly. You might look for a yahoo group called Polydice Anonymous, made from the remains of a D&D MeetUp that got tired of paying for the space.

OK, Stick, shoot me an e-mail when you get to town. (abatai@yahoo.com) I imagine I'll run into you at new faculty orientation, but it's sometimes hard to tell a gamer apart from the hoi-polloi at these functions.
I'll be arriving Saturday.
Will do. I will be arriving Monday night. I'll be highly amused should you turn out to be my neighbor too. I'll drop you a quick line, butin the meantime, I have to show off one of my wedding pictures, on the pretense of this is how you can recognize me. Heh.

Some news for MaxSlasher--I discovered that the shopping center near my apartment has a FLGS that has games running on Saturdays starting about 1 or 2 pm. They don't stock very much D&D stuff (mostly minis), but they say they are willing to order it. I'm afraid the name of the place has slipped my mind (hazards of being middle aged), but it's in a shopping center with a Lowe's Foods called Oliver Crossing, on Peters Creek Pkwy way at the south end of the suburban sprawl. Hope this info helps you guys!
