Magnimar Map!

Liberty's Edge

Ok, I've been marvelling over the latest crop of maps and this Magnimar map is beautiful. Not just from a game standpoint, but from a rendering and detail standpoint. Who does these maps and how do they do them?

I am a professional graphic artist, so I aam asking for specifics (unless they are trade secrerts :)

I'd like to create similar maps for my own homebrew world and I would love them to look like this! Are you using Photoshop? Are there hand drawn then scanned elements or is it all digital?

Please, I know it might bore many readers, but I'd love to hear all the down and dirty details!

Thanks!

Marc

The maps are done by Robert Lazzaretti, but how he does them is beyond me...

Paizo Employee Creative Director

I believe what Lazz does is he takes the raw turnover (in the case of the Magnimar map, a giant hand-drawn map on about 6 pieces of 11 x 17 inch graph paper done by Wes Schneider) that's been scanned into a jpg, and then he makes it awesome using art skills and Photoshop.

QFT. :D

I don't suppose you guys have a version that's rotated 90 degrees so that North points up, do you? Or will one like that be included in one of the issues?

I don't want to nitpick...because so far, everything really does look great. I'm exciting about DMing for the first time in a couple of years.

Y'know.... If you have any image editing software at all (including even the lowly Paint that is bundled with Windows, if that's your OS), you could just rotate it yourself. :D

True, but then all the labels on the map (the name of the city and all the numbers) would be sideways...already thought of that.

Ah, there's that. True.
