DM TOOLS REVAMP - and a contest!

3.5/d20/OGL

Huzzah!

After much tweaking, I have updated some parts of the DM Tools website. In light of that, I'd like to see what kind of characters you can build using the PC & NPC Idea generator. You'll notice that it comes up with a couple of things like mannerisms, phobias, appearance, origin - make sure to include these in your stat blocks! Create a small backstory including all these items and save them in your comment block.

THE CATCH - Make a character to fit into Paizo's Pathfinder/GameMastery world (setting name still unknown) with the information given in the modules and blogs.

The Rules

  • Elite array only. That's 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8, arranged how you like 'em.
  • Books. Any in your Sourcebook list. If you want to make a forlorn elven warlock, now's your chance.
  • Optional! Make a character for +0, +1, +2 and +3 level adjustments.

Make sure to include "Pathfinder Contest" in the stat block's name, and be sure to select "Pathfinder" as your campaign setting! :D

Contest prizes to be determined at a later time (though it will probably be cookies made by me ;) ).

Contest End Date: August 14th, 2007.

Caveat: This is in no way endorsed or sponsored by Paizo in any official or legal capacity. This is merely a contest to encourage creative thinking, and use what's come before in other books in Paizo's new setting. Play on!

Oooh!! This should be fun. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's NPCs!

It was also fun seeing the site shift while refreshing.

Me too!

And sorry, there's always a couple things I miss when I update a site. Visually, not much has changed, but I cleaned up a lot of code. :D

Ooooh, definitely.

Is it sad that my husband said, "Hey, you're close to having 10% of the total stat blocks on the site. You should make more!" and it has made me try to stay at 10% ever since?

Heh

Mmmmmmmm cookies.... count me in!

An example of what I mean - meet Arly, a blackscale lizardfolk cleric of Irori. :)

I just loaded up the new site, and my first thought is that it looks so much better.

I haven't scratched more than the index page yet... But it looks a lot nicer.

Don't feel bad -- I'm running at around 12% of the total stat blocks.

Just wanting to fully understand -- What CR limit are we looking at? Is there a limit to the number of class levels? Equip as an NPC of said level?

Just wondering about some of the specifics...

CR Limit: What's required to meet what was generated. Example: I get a cleric/mystic theurge character generated. Obviously, I would need to meet the prerequisites of the mystic theurge class. The site can copy pre-existing stat blocks, so if someone wants to level up the character they can. :)

Equipment: As NPC of said level.

Also, a quick hint for Monster characters that I found in the SRD. If you have a creature that doesn't give the ability score adjustments for them, this is how you figure it out. Example: Creature Y has the following ability scores:

Str 19, Dex 11, Con 14, Int 9, Wis 11, Cha 10.

To determine the bonuses to their base score, subtract 10 from even numbers and 11 from odd numbers. So, using the example above, my creature would have racial adjustments of:

Str +8, Dex +0, Con +4, Int -2, Wis +0, Cha +0.

Just a quick hint.

Meet Yasser, a dretch wizard. Seems that he thinks he lived during Thassilon's heyday...;)

Dretches get a whopping -6 to their Intelligence. Ouch!

From Moff Rimmer, Sothel Frostflame, a skullcrusher ogre favored soul with some unusual habits...

Undergate, a gnoll sorcerer out to get revenge in Bloodsworn Vale.

Uhh. Lilith with an intelligence of 10 he does not qualify for those first level spells. I believe he can replace the slots with 0 level spells however.

The first level spells were in the apprentice's spellbook, which he stole (and is still in his inventory). He has the spells in the spellbook, but can't prepare them. Which is why they're not prepared. (I will look into preparing them as 0-lvl spells though.)

My first try at a stat block. I'd like to thank Lilith and the other members for their patience when they reviewed my effort.

The end result is here.

Kalan, I really like your petal favored soul - a very wonderful example of a follower of Shelyn!

Nicely done! Very creative, I like it.

My second contribution to the contest.

It's a little darker in tone.
