I know we previously discussed that you could not put mechanika on a greatcoat, but surely and you can still have a masterwork one. Does it get the -1 to armor check penalty? Or does it just look real pretty?

Yes, a masterwork greatcoat reduces the ACP by 1, which I believe should make it 0. In addition to that fact, it does look quite cunning. The height of Immorese fashion to be sure.

Beans. Yes, the Run feat allows you to move at x4 in heavy armor (or x5 in light or medium), grants you a +4 bonus on Jump checks made with a running start, and allows you to retain your Dex bonus to AC when taking the run action.

The ST wrote in past tense, which is what I went by. Present always feels awkward to me, but I am flexible if that is the way things are going to go.

I prefer past tense too. I wrote in present tense because I got used to doing it in the other game, but I just noticed that Zack definitely wrote in past tense this time. I personally am going to hop on board that much better bandwagon for now on. :)

I wrote in past tense in order to bring the game up to the present. You'll notice that my original post ends in present tense because I basically wrote "history, history, history, history, present, go!" I used the tense to 'catch up' with the events happening in-game and will probably continue to use present tense from here on.

Present tense makes more sense in a game because you are dictating things as they are happening. Personally, I don't actually care how people write. Just go with whatever fits you best.

All this talk about the past and present is making me tense. :D

I agree with Ali that there ought to be consensus. When we get into dialogue and such it will be a pain in the neck if we're switching. And I suppose that present tense will make more sense when we actually get down to mechanicery. It will just take some getting used to.

A mechanikal Heward's Handy Haversack seems like it would be a terribly problematic device to maintain. Whenever you have to replace the accumulator, the enchantment would end and all of your stuff would explode out all around you. If you want a non-mechanikal one, it'll cost 150% of the DMG price.

AH HA! Okay, I THOUGHT I'd seen present tense in there somewhere, but then when I went back to read again I thought I was wrong and the entire thing was in past tense.

Yay, I'm not crazy!

Just do what I do: Write the whole thing in past tense, then go through afterwards and edit the tense. It's much easier for me to do that than to simply start off in present.

I had forgotten about the 150% thing. That takes the price up to 3000 gp which is more than half of the starting cash. I'm still considering it, if you'll allow it but I know that's generally a no-no. As amusing as a mechanikal haversack would be, it would be a royal pain in the ass.
This just seems like the perfect utility item for Ashleigh to have. It dovetails nicely with the Jack of all Trades thing (he could carry all sorts of odd and ends that might turn out useful) and Quick Draw (unlike a bag of holding, the haversack always shifts the correct item to the top, making it only a move action with no attack of opportunity.

I just remembered something else: No planar magic exists in IK. The prerequisite spell needed to create such a bag is not present in this setting. It can't be done at all, not even mechanikally. I wouldn't have a problem with a 3000gp item (Yfel has a non-mechanikal +1 greataxe, but there is, of course, a story behind it as there would be any true magic item) but in this case, it cannot be accomplished, even with adequate funding.

You know, I thought of that and checked. The IKCG says "...all spells related to planar travel such as plane shift and the first effect of gate are not available." But they didn't stick Leo's secure shelter on the banned spell list so I figured the intent was not to have mortals traveling between the planes. I could see it either way, I just interpreted it optimistically because I liked the item for the character. If you have a change of heart let me know, otherwise I'll head back to shopping.

Omnipotent (That's right, my gender is omnipotent.) God ph34r

Leomund's Secure Shelter is actually a Conjuration(Creation) effect. It truly creates a giant freaking cottage, not an extradimensional space. Since I don't have my books with me, see if leomund's secret chest is on the list. If it isn't, then a bag of holding or similar item (such as the haversack) can be made.

Yes. Right. Sorry. Leo's Secret Chest is the requirement and is the spell I checked. It is not specifically mentioned in the banned spell list. I had just looked up Secure Shelter out of curiosity right before I posted and that's what came out through my fingers. Sorry for the confusion.

**edit** Furthermore, I'd like to note that it is under the 200xp creation cost limit and therefore does not incur a chance of bits of your soul being ripped out in the process of creation.

Then yes, you can have one. It still costs 150% of DMG value, though. And you'll need to figure out where you got it from since non-mechanikal magic items are a pretty rare treat in IK.

Done. I had figured that in one of his early mercenary engagements they knew going in that the enemies had a few spellcasters about so Ashleigh had Detect magic running to point out targets. He shot down one of the Sorcerers himself, his first kill, and after the combat he noticed that the mage's bag was still glowing even though he was dead. Faro and Apple talked it over and decided that he could keep the thing to commemorate becoming a "full" member of the Jackal's Grin.

Either that or they could've been on contract for the Illuminated Ones and he went above and beyond the call of duty in some fashion and the Church granted it to him as a special thank you.

I like that second idea better, actually I will try to flesh it out for you a bit more.

M Human (Thurian) War-bar 4

Ok, Ashleigh's sheet is now finished with all gear included. Finally.

I like past tense. It's easy habit and feels less like dictation. The tense of a story doesn't harm the story any - it's in real-time for the characters which is what matters.

Mass application of the Dominate spell. Or something.

Augh. I'm having trouble crossing Claudian's 7 Charisma with LG. He wouldn't be *mean*, being as he's still a 'good' person... so I'm trying to think of what it is that would make him genuinely unlikeable at first.

People probably view him as unsightly and terrifying or, at the very least, uncouth and awkward.

Think about it, Jared is LG and he has 7 CHA, yeah?

Jared has 9 on his bad days and 10 every other, imo.

He's socially awkward but no more than the next guy. Think about it:

A Charisma of 3 is a -4 penalty. You can't have less than 3 and be HUMAN. Therefore -4 is the worst you can have. Presumably it's on a linear scale, since the numerics don't go -1, -2, -4, -8 or something...

So you're effectively saying that, at Charisma 7, Jared is halfway to being the most miserably undesireable and inhumanly ugly person that could possibly exist. That's saying a bit much, imo. ;)

Also, Jared is NG by my reckoning. He'll break laws if it means doing the right thing.

But to get back to the point, yeah, I can see him coming across as terrifying and unsightly. Uncouth, as well, but that's only for now as his manners have seriously slipped in the time he's spent being a layabout in Corvis. The somewhat low dexterity means he's occasionally clumsy enough to do things like run into Faro back there.

I dunno, I'm just trying not to overdo it but still make the point.

Charisma is a passive thing as much as it is an 'active' thing. Whenever you're at a bus stop or a train station or what have you, you know the creepy guys that are sometimes found late at night? Not just the homeless people, but the guys who seem to radiate the aura of 'stay the hell away from me'? That's low Charisma. People who are just creepy and/or scary-looking. Claudian is covered in scars, sounds like a wood chipper when he talks, and is (probably) missing a tooth or three. People aren't going to respond warmly to that, even if he's trying to be pleasant.

And if you combine that with a general desire to be nice to people and a lack of understanding about how people expect you to be nice to them... I imagine someone who claps people way too hard on the back, sticks his foot in his mouth when he talks, lacks tact, stares when he shouldn't and picks his nose or something, etc...

When I think Charisma 7, I think of Joe from my other gaming group. Nice guy. Dirty, smelly guy who rarely bathes. Burps and farts, even at the table. Eats with his mouth open. Tries to be friendly by joking around with others, but his jokes are inappropriate and occassionally offensive. May very well call a black guy by certain socially-inacceptable names without meaning any offense whatsoever. Will take his friends into headlocks to show them he likes them, or slap them on the back/upside the head. Can't express his thoughts any better than our illustrious President can....

And now I have to add to that Intelligence and Wisdom 12. He's above average on the charts when it comes to perceptiveness and intelligence. Why would he not pick up on these things, especially after being this way for 20+ years?

I think it might just be purely aesthetics. He runs into people, *always* seems angry, is rather unpleasant to look at and revels in combat and aggression. Maybe that's how it'll play out.

Also, Zack, I think I might pick up on the idea of a PbP Dragonstar game. I could probably do a much better job of it than I did in person, and since *that* game got fairly good reviews, text should be a blast.

They don't even specify that it has to be d20, but that's what most people are familiar with so that's what all of the games so far have been.

1) I'm letting the IC page sit for a bit, to let other people catch up and not dominate a page's worth of posts before people can respond.

2) What kind of game would you like to see in Dragonstar? I was thinking of something that wasn't galaxy-spanning this time, just one or two star systems, maybe a pack of interplanetary "problem solvers" (i.e. adventurers!) in a traditional DnD style game, but with crazy sci-fi elements.

One does not become more likable simply by virtue of being smart or perceptive. He may be able to notice the's offending people and understand why, and yet be unable to change. Like he can't make his smile any less threatening, he's no better at putting words together than he was yesterday, and maybe trying so damn hard to be likable makes him come off as even LESS so... like the people who are too touchy-feely, giggly, and talkative because they want to seem "nice".

Nah, I think he's just boorish and kind of beyond caring about people on an individual level, so he *comes off* as mean even though he's actually a pretty good person. Being sedentary in Corvis for so long has taken the polish off of him. I kind of want his personal story to be one of redemption as he gets back into the swing of fighting for a cause and such. I want it to take a bit of work for his companions to see the 'Good' underneath all the tarnish.

I'd like to see a campaign that minimizes space travel. Something that focuses on the events occurring on one planet (or possibly confine it to one solar system) instead of wide-spanning, crazy, go-everywhere-do-everything plots. It'll give us a base of operations and allow us to become more familiar with our surroundings.

If you'd like. You'll probably get a bunch of random "Ooooh! Can I play!" posts at first because new PbP games are like bread crumbs to pigeons around here. You may accept or refuse players at your leisure.
