It sounds like a good plan initially, but... this one-shot is going to basically be designed to test the system. In order to test it adequately, I'm going to give you a fairly large pool of experience points to build your characters with just so we can explore the advanced capabilities of the different character types. Putting him into a high-powered game is kind of like shooting yourself in the foot with a poisoned harpoon. That kid's gotta be on meth or something, I swear.
Yes, giving Taylor too much power is a bad thing...
Two words: Haunted Asylum
O.O Awesome! Are we to be the haunted or the haunts? :D There is much potential for screwing around with advanced capabilities either way... :D

The haunted. It's going to be a railroad plot and, as long as you don't try to violate the "4th wall" too hard, I think we'll all enjoy it. Go into it with the mentality of playing a fully interactive video game rather than a vast, intricate tabletop RPG and I think you'll make the most of it. This is basically just an excuse to play with the system and get used to how things like combat and magical powers work. Expect there to be lots of looking stuff up in the books, though.

As long as the walls don't suddenly start shoving me down the path with the poisonous mushrooms, I think I'll enjoy it. :P

Anyway, back to the game at hand...
So, it looks like the final party makeup will consist of:
Grizzled Cygnaran (Kossite) Fighter
Thurian War-Bard from... somewhere.
Nyss Sorceress.
Tribal Khadoran Barbarian.
Tank, Support, DPS, DPS.
Hmmm.... watching you guys try to keep yourselves alive when the injuries start is going to be amusing.

DM Fatespinner - IK |

Bards can have a LITTLE healing in IK, right? But what about War Bards...
War-Bards replace regular bards in IK. They're very similar and yes, they do have a small amount of healing they can offer, but their spells convert lethal damage to nonlethal damage (which heals faster) instead of providing instant relief.

Sorry for the delay in the backstory bits. Work and sickness and girlfriend have conspired to keep me from my writing. I am working on it now and I'm afraid it's gonna be...massive. Just warning you. You don't have to read it all if you don't want to.
*sharpens quill*
back to work.

I quiver in anticipatory fear.
I'm sure it'll be cool!

Oh did you ever decide if that alternate 0th level spell included with my char sheet was permissible?
Yeah, that's fine. I don't see anything wrong with it when compared to things like ray of frost or light. You could, if you so wished, make a touch attack with it to deal 1 point of fire damage, but it would end the spell. I would consider it an Evocation (and Spell Resistance would apply).

DM Fatespinner - IK |

I think we're all... pretty much... decided...? o.O
Seems to be that way. I believe Ian finally settled on the War-Bard (he bothered to send me a pretty lengthy background already) and Sasha wrote up Sy'yll at my place over the weekend. Just need to sit with Ali and get Yfel statted up and we should be set. I also need to get off my ass and Wiki these sheets...

Andante |

Or, you know, next month. :P
Oh shh! :P The great Internet Gods can't hate me THAT much... right?
The stuff I'll be sending you is background up to the point right before the little paragraph I already sent you. I doubt I went as overboard as Ian (:P) but it's *cough* more than I intended. Oh well... your problem now! ;)

DM Fatespinner - IK |

Btw, considering this seems to be the ONLY fair-skinned, black-haired, female elf icon out there... meet Sy'yll. :)
I think she's fairly appropriate to the character... yep, works for me!
Cool, Mialee avatar it is! I plan on continuing to use this tin can for my DMing avatar in the game thread.
Man, I've really got a lot of stuff going on right now, don't I?
- World of Darkness Playtest
- Full-fledged World of Darkness Game
- Fade to Black
- Echoes of Eternity
- Iron Kingdoms
Plus, I'm playing in one play-by-post game and participating in the Paizo Colloseum with my wizard. On top of that, I've got Lazarro in Smokie's Vampire Dark Ages game and my wizard in Jared's game!
Phew.

Zomg. Who the hell is Dak? ...And Zack... did you receive the email I sent to your home address last night?
Dak was my character (who has achieved legendary status in our gaming history) in the Dragonstar game that Steve ran over at Lockenfaith's. And yes, I got your e-mail but did not have the opportunity to read it all the way through yet.
To truly grasp the concept of Dak as a character, you must know the following:
Rebellious son of wealthy parents. Genetically engineered to be intellectually superior and largely just 'better' than most humans overall. STR 16, DEX 16, CON 14, INT 28, WIS 8, CHA 14. Super grease-monkey who possessed a knack for machinery that would put Scottie and Kaylee to shame. Plus, he was proficient in using pipe wrenches as weapons and had Improved Unarmed Strike which he learned because of all the fights he got into during underground racing tournaments (which he was also very good at). He later learned wizardry because it was necessary and, in his opinion, 'easy.'
Other notable quirks: Constantly smoked cigarettes, hardly ever slept, and was hopelessly addicted to adrenaline, sex, explosives, and heavy metal. Basically the coolest character ever.

Andante |

I think I got to see Dak in action during the ONE MEASILY DAY I ever played DragonStar (which, amusingly enough, was also my introduction into REAL gaming. Boy was I confused.)
Sadness. I wish I could have seen him more.
And TWENTY-EIGHT FREAKING INTELLIGENCE?! Paired next to an EIGHT wisdom, no less. Ye gods.
The amusing thing is, Dak sounds like a male, smarter (like 28 intelligence instead of 20) version of my mechanic-character in one of the stories I'm in on writing.com. I mean down to the personality quirks (minus cigarettes, cuz that's another character in the story's vice and I didn't want to steal it). Amusing. :)

DM Fatespinner - IK |

Sadness. I wish I could have seen him more.
Yeah, you missed some good stuff. Four words:
Shower curtain hang glider.
I rest my case.
He was also a workaholic (the reason for his insomnia) and pretty much everyone in the party had some innate ability to perform magic (the 2 sorcerers plus the ranger whose magic is divinely granted). Because Dak was constantly working on stuff and managed to find the time to learn wizardry (which requires lots of research, study, and attention to detail) while everyone else was basically sitting on their asses with their 'high-and-mighty' innate magic, his signature quote became "I am the only m+~+@*@!~*#& that does any g%&*@mn work around here!!!!"

I sent you Claudian's general background-ish notes, Zack. Home and work address. Your problem now.
And TWENTY-EIGHT FREAKING INTELLIGENCE?! Paired next to an EIGHT wisdom, no less. Ye gods.
Twenty eight intelligence, eight wisdom. Dak teetered at any moment on the brink of psychosis/neurosis. He had a few already - he refused to be defeated by any mechanical problem, for example.
More than any character, he reminds me very strongly of Cid from FF7.

Claudian Galbraith |

Zomg. Who the hell is Dak? Steve! I wanna see your avatar! And Zack... did you receive the email I sent to your home address last night?
I'm torn between this one and a few others. But this is the one selected for now.
*edit* Honestly, I think I'm gonna stick withthis one. It's closest to what I wanted. Just know that he's definitely NOT clean-shaven like that when you first meet him.

Ah yeah, the Maya character in the story I'm working on is... not a wizard. There's no magic at all to speak of in that world (least not yet... we seem to be on the other side of the univers in our world's future, so who knows what the leader of the story may allow or throw at us?). Funny though, my character's a workaholic too.... when she's not a complete slacker. She's one of those people who takes things at her own pace, does tasks when she feels they need to be done, ignores all but the most important deadlines....... and then can't be torn from her work when she's either passionate about it or when it really really really needs to be done. Like in the addy I'm working on right now, she's trying to fix engines that are presently leaking radiation, and has no intention of coming out of Engineering for any reason---or letting anyone else in---until the problem's fixed.
*cough* Sorry, a little obsessed with that story right now. The character's a lot of fun to write for.
Anyway... back to THIS... about how soon do you expect this game to be up and running?

Awesome. Based on what little I know of the character (from what you've posted here obviously), it seems to fit spiffily.
I just wish there were something a lil more Sy'yll-like on this site. Or that we had the ability to upload our own avatars. Oh well... :(
