HTBM Shrine of Dmeogorgon Delima

Savage Tide Adventure Path

Hey guys,

During SWW I gave the PC's a foreshadowing of Olangru that directly linked him to a previous shadow pearl attack. basically he used a shadow pearl for the secret masters to tests its capabilities on the coastal fort of green rock.

Thus, when they encounter Olangru In-full, in HTBM in the shrine of Demogorgon they will probably say "AHHHHH so the demon lord demogorgon is the main bad guy!" I think I gave a little to much info out too early...or did I? What do you think? Should I change it to a shrine to some other demon lord Daegon perhaps?...or run it as written?

What adventure do they actually get confirmation that the BBEG is demogorgon?

I dont want the BBEG to be revealed too early...AM I screwed?

I really dont think that it matters if the players (or their PC's) know if Demogorgon is the main bad dude. Its not really going to change anything, and it may point to the fact that Demogorgan is involved somehow but not provided definiative proof that he is anyway. So I wouldnt stress about that too much.

I don't believe you are screwed. My players believed they were going to Farshore to help Lavinia finish what her parents had started, and then would look for Vanthus. After the Rats End pirate attack, they met with Lavinia and the town counsil, and discussed how they defeated a "random" demon and a minor "Aspect of Demogorgon" in an old abandoned temple. I needed to give them some extra encounters, so I used the wandering monster table in the next book, and as luck would have it, the first thing I rolled was a Retriever, they did a Knowledge - the Planes, and knew that Retreivers were used to go out and capture those who have pissed off the demon lords, and just chalked it up to them upsetting Demogorgon by killing his "aspect". I think at this time they still believe the Crimson Fleet and Vanthus are the BBEGs.

The PCs know Demogorgon's involved as early as "Here there be Monsters." They probably don't realize that they're heading for a for-real showdown with him till the end of "Serpents of Scuttlecove," though, but a smart party should be able to pick up on/anticipate this direction much earlier.

Knowing that Demogorgon's the BBEG doesn't really ruin much. In fact, I think that helps to build anticipation.

You shouldn't worry about it, though. Keeping the BBEG a secret hurts a campaign, I think. It certainly didn't help Shackled City's plot.

It has built anticipation in my own campaign. While the players, prior to the latter Savage Tidings (particularly the one titled "Into The Abyss") had little inkling as to who the BBEG might have been (as opposed to Age of Worms, which left surprise in that department), they have been so immersed in Sasserine (currently) that the potential of scaring up some demon lord quarry isn't an issue yet. Though I'm sure when it comes down the line, they'll be psyched.

Awesome James thanks for the advice. I will do as you say (and what everyone else says) and let it run its course as is! They will definatly know that a worshiper of Demogorgon set off a shadow pearl when they reach the shrine of Demogorgon in "Here there be monsters". Should make things interesting...

Thanks guys...
