Interesting. I wonder if it does have anything to do with Sasserine.

Awesome! And interesting bio, too!

The piece of artwork is named "Pirate Attack (Heroic Landscape)". It's unlikely it's just a coincidence. Pretty sweet, actually.

It is cool. But it's also a coincidence; I've never seen it before, and I certainly didn't send it as reference to Ben. Still... might be a cool piece to show the players as one of the paintings on Lavinia's walls, perhaps?

You could get all kinds of stuff for Lavinia's walls from this guy:

Plague, Battle of the Centaurs, The Sacred Wood, The Isle of the Dead

Art history, cool.

That painting is awesome, but I have never seen it before. The similarity to my Sasserine illo is striking.

Yikes, these are bad prints of the original pictures - one of the originals is part of the permanent collection at the local Kunsthalle (Museum of Art) - and I know two others both from art classes and personal visits. But Böcklin is no real "unknown" and pretty much part of the curriculum for late 19th/early 20th century European painting, so I somehow expect an artist who studied painting at college or university to be aware of him and many of his paintings. Hence, his work might have been an inspiration...
