I'm working on a vastly unusual cosmology for D&D; mainly unusual in that I'm ignoring ArchDevils and Demon Princes (Yes, yes, QUITE ironic considering my Avatar).
I still plan on having Demons/Devils/Doohickies, but I plan to have Evil gods as the actual rulers of them all. And here is sort of where my little headace starts. While I don't plan on using Orcus, I'm kind of interested in a minor god based on his old alter ego, Tenebrous.
But ALL I can find about Tenebrous is that he was Orcus and he knew the Last Word. This is great but I could use a little more, like domains, what did he look like, what did he do besides knocking off diddley-deities and hijacking the Modrons to look for his "Wand". And I know he's a Vestige in the Tomes of Magic, but I need info on him as a God.
Can anyone point me to any old Chant on him?

Hey Brian,
I think you need to get a copy of the 2nd edition boxed set (or pdf) called "Dead Gods" for the Planescape setting. I never owned it, strangely (considering my love for the setting), but I believe everything you can find on Tenebrous is in there.

Well, I bought Dead Gods from Paizo here (you should get a dollar commission from Paizo for your post, Ben). But so far it's been the same old song and dance:
He was Orcy, he wants to be Orcy again, he has The Last Word (cute) and he's running roughshod over the multiverse, popping so-called Gods that no one cares about to find his skull-topped phallic symbol. And he has "Ghost Fiends" working for him.
Since it seems I'll have to make this stuff up from the beginning I've given him the Necromancy, Passion and Shadow domains from Eberron (in addition to the Evil domain of course). His portfolio will be best summed up as "Revenge from beyond the Grave", worshippers will be necromancers, intelligent undead and Shadow creatures.

Who is on Tenebrous' hit list? I know he killed Maanzecorian and Primus but that is it.
Also, Tome of Magic has a very brief write up of Tenebrous as a vestige. When Orcus returned to life as his original identity he shed the Tenebrous identity. However, something of it still exists and can act independently.

Hate to say it man, but that's about it.
There's a brief summary sidebar on page 103 of Manual of the Planes and the Great Modron March adventure features an illustration of a shadowy figure that ends up being Tenebrous in the prologue and epilogue (kind of looks like an ultraloth). Erik and James drop mentions of Tenebrous on pages 74 and 128 of Hordes of the Abyss, and there's probably a bit more elsewhere in there. The visages on page 130 of Libris Mortis also giive him a nod. But that's about it. Tenebrous never was a god (heck, he was less than a demonlord) so I don't know that any place is going to have the exact info you're looking for.
If you're looking for suggestions, though, I'd take most of the details from Tome of Magic and these other sources as his background (dead demon back for vengence and his stuff) and make him a deity that grants the domains chaos, darkness (SRD), death, and evil.
Good luck!

Blast and Damnation! Fine, I'll make it up.
And one more thing. I am sorry to be a Bauriar's backside (if only a little), but I'm not buying the Tome of Magic... yet, so quit trying to sell it to me. I love Paizo as much as the next berk but $35.96 (not counting delivery, duties) is a bit too much jink for a book I only want 2-3 pages of. At least Dead Gods was only $4.00 so I got that, be happy. Okay, my rant's done now.

Thanks.
Who/what was Bwimb by the way?
Also, I would not shell out for a new Tome of Magic either. I would buy a used one from ebay. Thirty five dollars is too steep for any game book in my opinion.

The after effects of Tenebrous' brief rage through the planes can still be seen. In Libris Mortis, some of his nasty undead creations (called Vestiges), endure.
The drow from the legendary Vault of the Drow are quite familiar with his influence as well. The drow goddess of undeath DID kill Orcus and steal his wand.
Tenebrous also rears his ugly head in Tome of Magic. While Orcus has been restored, a fragment of the being which was once Tenebrous has fallen by the wayside, but still holds some sway with a few people mad enough to bind themselves to his power.
His travels shocked the planes. Wherever his servants went, death, chaos, destruction, and evil were left in their wake.
The long and short of it is, berk, that Orcus and Tenebrous are the same guy. One's just the ghost of a demon lord who's too clever or too stubborn to die.

The Ghostwalk campaign setting had Orcus (not Tenebrous) as a god iirc. That might be a good place to start as far as domains, portfolio, favoured weapons etc? I think he was a god of Undeath in that.
Orcus is in Ghostwalk page 85
Lesser Deity
Al- CE
Domains Chaos, Death, Evil, Undeath
Weapon - Mace
Portofiol Nerco, Torture,pain,undeath
Don't think they wrote him up as Teneborus

Thank you! Really, but that's more than enough. I could have sworn I said twice in this board I was going to wing it anyways (must have been writing in Infernal again). Here's what I scared up so far:
Tenebrous, the Shadow of Life is a mystery wrapped in lies and cloaked in shadows. Nearly all of the living are mercifully unaware of "his" existance. "His" worshippers are necromancers, undead and creatures from the Shadow Plane. None of these can clearly say what "he" is; his domains are Necromancy, Passion, Shadow (from Eberron) and Evil (surprise!) but his "portfolio", what he is truly about is more obscure. It is mostly accepted that "his" reason for existance is summed up clearly as: "Revenge from beyond the Grave", though the subject and reasons for revenge are unknown.
