Cuthbert, who are thee.

Silver Crusade

As stated on other threads I have a group wanting to be followers of Cuthbert. I know that a Core Beliefs is coming(drool). I have some before questions.

What real life religion is a good comparsion?

Is there a lawful evil sects?

If so Will a paladin of St.Cuthbert wock with that sect?

I don't know about a real world equivalent, but I can mention that in most of the books I've read about Greyhawk, St. Cuthbert is mentioned as being a LN deity that allows only LG and LN clerics. No LE allowed.

I imagine that there are lawful evil individuals, but as a whole the religion is lawful neutral tending toward lawful good. A paladin would only work with a lawful evil member as the lesser of two evils, such as to undertake some important mission where co-operation was vitally important.

WHen I think of St. Cuthbert, my first thoughts are of the early colonies in New England founded by Puritans and Calvinists. Very serious, very dour, no dancing, witch hunts, the whole bit.

(Even more praise for Dungeon #148 than I've already hurled all over these boards)

The Automatic Hound, in #148, features the church of St. Cuthbert and a priest of St. Cuthbert. I think that what the priest does, and the motivations for why he does it, are a very good indication of the Cuthbertine religion as a whole.

I won't spoil anything - just go read it.

Shouldn't the title of this thread be "Cuthbert, Who Art Thou?"

Just checking.

Yeah. If you're gonna be archaic, at least get the basics right ;)

I used Erastil in the place of Cuthbert in order to Pathfinderize the adventure. Not a perfect fit, but it seemed appropriate in that the town is a farming town.

There's actually a church of St. Cuthbert in Toronto.

As for material on Cuthbert, he hasn't changed from his older editions. Look for the Living Greyhawk deities document 2.0, or the Temple of Elemental evil book from 1st edition for details. (awesome, but, it's out of print)

Any Living Greyhawk region that had a church of St. Cuthbert would have information about him as well. Veluna and Verbobonc will be the biggest, but Furyondy and Shield Lands will have some stuff too.

For those looking for a non-Greyhawk answer to St Cuthbert, who wert thou?:

I used Erastil instead of St. Cuthbert in my Golarion Shackled City game.
