So here are my ideas:
The Flaming Arrow-
This arrow looks and feels like all other arrows. It does the same D6 as any other arrow but on contact with the enemy the arrow lights on fire and does an additional extra D6 fire damage.
The Ice Arrow-
This arrow looks and feels like all other arrows. It does the same D6 as any other arrow but when this is lodged in to the enemy it deal an extra D6 Cold damage and then the next three rounds it does 1D3 Cold damage till the arrow melts
Acid Arrow-
This arrow looks and feels like all other arrows. It does the same D6 as any other arrow but on contact with the enemy the arrow burns with acid and does an additional extra D6 acid damage.
Electric Arrow-
This arrow looks and feels like all other arrows. It does the same D6 as any other arrow but on contact with the enemy the arrow Flashes and sends a pulse of electricity through the enemy that deals in additional 1D6 in addition the enemy must make a DC 18 fortitude save or be stunned for one round.

Perhaps you could adapt the rules for potions a bit. A character with the Craft Magic Arms and Armor feat could produce arrows that use any spell of up to third level. Of course, the arrows would be worth just slightly more than a potion with the same spell. Also, such arrows would obviously be one-shot items.
Pun intended. Sorry. I'll just go now.

Also, consider Arrows of Healing if the character is capable of doing so. Imagine the opposition’s view point with one guy standing back keeping his buddies going by whacking them with a range-attack heal!
Or more to the point, positive energy arrows. These could be effectiv weapons vs. Undead. And of course consider negative energy arrows.
But above all, carry boxing glove arrows. They pack a punch.

Cupid's Arrows! (charm person and nonlethal dmg)
Giggling Arrows! (tasha's hideous laughter and nonlethal dmg)
Dancing Arrows! (otto's irresistable dance and nonlethal dmg)
Arrows of the Diplomat! (calm emotions and nonlethal dmg) "We will be civil towards each other or I'm going to start shooting."
Arrows of Pointing (shoot it straight in the air and it finds stuff like a homing missile. except without the explosion at the end. locate object)
That's all I've got.

well, here are some more:
grappling hook arrow
Flare arrow
fishing arrow
stone piercing arrow - good for making rope bridges
explosive arrow or a jar of nastiness like green slime
drug or poison injecting arrow
double cutter arrow; does damage going in and when pulled out.
smiting arrow
rending arrow
bleeding arrows; maybe hollow tubes that inject a non clotting agent
entangle arrow, trickshot to fire a few or a net of thin cutting wire
snake arrow; like in Conan
arrow of any nasty insect or such like a death beetle that keeps burrowing
Blind arrow; maybe gas, paint; iching, irratation, blind powder.
Screaming death arrow; maybe makes a frightful pressance attack
mirror image arrow; fighters get minuses on sheild blocking ranged.
smack talking or taunt arrow; magic mouth i guess; heck any spell.
sentient arrow? maybe shoot down hallway and it yells out what it passes.
flechette arrow; area affect; chance to hit everyting in certain area with many needle like quills.
Shredder arrow; bonus to destroying scrolls; potions and the like.
glue arrow?
arrow of magnetism; look at old unearth arcana chromatic orb magnetism
rust arrow; arrow with a rust monster tentacle attached to it.
worm arrow; maybe worm of Kyuss arrow; really nasty.
well, those are some off the top of my head.

I'm not a hunter, so I'm not sure if they really exist or are just something a friend told me about, but there are supposed to be actual bludgeoning arrows that can break a bones rather than piercing the skin.
I've heard of those. They have rubber tips, and are used for hunting rabbits. Y'see, rabbits' skulls are so brittle that a hit from one of these puppies will punch right through. The arrows also have odd fletching that cause the arrow to arc upwards and then drop straight down. Very hard to aim.

By the way, apparently, target arrows are WAAAY sharper than they're cracked up to be. A guy I knew back when I was a callow youth living in Pennsylvania once shot another guy in the leg with one of them. He didn't think it would break the skin. He was an idiot. Josh (the victim) turned the Jamie (the idiot) into a human punching bag. Josh then ripped the arrow out of his leg and chucked it at Jamie.

well, they are not sharp like a hunting arrow; but certainly have a metal tip; a conical point and applied force depending on the bow. A 35 pound bow firing a target arrow will easily penetrate a bail of hay and keep going for instance; I can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to fire one a another person; that is not stupid; that is criminal and that rapid dog should be....
anyway, we are talking about a lot of force applied to a very small area applied to a soft target, kinda like when a woman wears high heel shoes and walks ....

An arrow with both fly and clairvoyance cast on it would serve as the fantasy equivalent of an RPV. Parties could use one to scout ahead of their position, look behind hills or other terrain features, etc.
The shrink item spell has interesting applications. You can shrink anything into a cloth-like strip (including a fire and its fuel, according to the spell description). All you have to do to return it to normal is strike the cloth against a solid surface. By tying the strip to an arrow, if you hit the target with that arrow...

I realize this thread is ancient. I found this trying to look for 3.5 rules for arrows I know existed in old AD&D. Specifically, the biting arrow (wood biter, stone biter, and i think there was an iron biter as well). Google has failed me and I have not found them in any of the core equipment guides. Can anyone lend me hand and find a reference or give me an idea of how to deal with this?
