On 12: A store of something, most likely cooking oil has reached a critical point, and a thunderous explosion pounds the ship like the kick of a giant. Only resting on the sea bottom supports the ship enough to keep you all from being tossed into the air.
Fire is spreading rapidly now, and panic spreads among the survivors on the deck. Many scramble to simply throw themselves overboard to get away from the flames.
On 10: Meanwhile, the half-giant lashes out with his meaty fist, doing massive damage to the face of his target Sahuagin, but in his zeal, his guard slips down, and he takes another stinging trident jab, this time to his side.
Next is Beren on 8

Beren Kemble |

The Shaman looks at Beren, but then turns and says something unkown to the shifter. The fishmen start attacking patrons left on the ship as a huge explosion rocks the deck. Fire starts spreading, and Beren lets out a growl from his failed attempt at diplomacy.
"Fine" he says to himself, "If you want blood, then you shall have it." Beren brings up his bow, reaches behind him and grabs an arrow. Notching the arrow and pulling the end to his ear, he closes one eye and adjusts to the wind and the shaking of the boat. "The Sovereigns guide me. May The Devourer drag you back into the sea." With a quick breath, he releases the arrow targeting the shaman.
Attack roll (5+3=8)
Beren growls and slams the rail with his fists as he sees the arrow fly past the shaman once again. He looks behind him noticing Brick standing there dumbfounded. "Brick" Beren growls once again, "Gently put her down, and use that club to smash those fishmen."

Raustikin |

Raustikin feels the claws of anger rise inside of him; tired of being jaunted around, the groans of death, burning flesh and the scent of explosions and magic assult, he stands, lifts his sword and hacks at the nearest scaly creature he can find. Beren has shown him the way - revenge has begun.
I must first stand (move action), move 5-feet (if necessary), and whack a sahuagin with the scimitar. Attack roll 6 + 3 = 9.

Brick |

Beren Kemble wrote:hey Raustikin, if we combine our scores, we got a 17. These fishmen dont stand a chance against our all-mighty scimi-arrow:)Kickin' *ss. That ocean will be laid low against our wrath.
Yeah, kill the ocean, that sounds fun!
50 awesome points to anyone who got that joke. :}

For the record, you found it easy enough to stand and move to the closest Sahuagin as a single move action. Would have been different if you were moving up the slope but you weren't. You are now in a fairly good position, on higher ground, and benefiting from the half-giant bouncer's flanking. Not good enough to make a single digit hit, but you have a total +3.

Ruuz looks out over the sea to the lone sea devil waving his arms again. Ruuz raises his crossbow and trains it on the creatures chest and lets loose.
12 + 2 = 14; damage 2 + 2 + 3 + 6 = 13
The ocean rears up, looks at you, says if your gonna keep poking me, I am gonna take my ball and go home.
That is to say, you miss

4th Round:
Initiative Table:
22 – Sahuagin Druid - Out in the water
21 – Valessa Marr
20 – Brick
18 – Forward Boarding Party
16 – Aft Baording Part
15 – Rokko
12 – Fire
10 - Half Giant Bouncer
08 – Beren Kemble
06 – Raustikin
05 – Stuff Happens
04 – Ruuz
03 - Serving Girls (in general)
02 - Minotaur Bard
Special Notes for this round: Enough activity has been pointed at him that everyone has spotted the druid in the water. Also, the fire has raised the temperature on deck sufficiently that anyone taking a full round action, a move and standard, or a double move action needs to make a DC 12 fortitude save or take 1 point of non-lethal damage.
Finally, glancing around you see that of the 200+ people that were on the boat 30 seconds ago, only 50 or so are left.

![]() |

On 22: Anothe bolt of lightning splits the heavens, again, unerringly seeking the threatening form of the minotaur. As the discharge grounds through him, he collapses first to his knees, then fully to the ground.
His body lies on the deck twitching slightly.
Valessa is next

Valessa Marr |

“They were looking for someone,” thinks Valessa. “Looking for someone, couldn’t find them, started killing people … but it appears they don’t want to – kill them. It’s that one out in the water telling them to kill them!”
She stands, turns, and fires at the shaman – the strange calm returned, mixed with a sudden steely determination. Fires bow at shaman, burns action point on attack roll. D20 roll: 15 + d8 roll (action burst): 4 + 2 (dex modifier) = 21 (-range penalty for shortbow?). If it hits, damage = 6.
As the arrow flies, Valessa suddenly recalls something, someone she had noticed earlier – the notorious arms dealer, Barhos Zephuly. Were the sahuagin after him? Not waiting to see if her arrow flies true, she turns to scan the deck in the direction she had previously noticed the fat man. (spot: 15+4 = 19)
As she turns, she is hit by a wave of intense heat from the nearby fire. “Damn. I have to get off this boat,” she mutters. Fort save: 9+1 = 10 – takes 1 point of non lethal damage.

Brick |

Beren growls and slams the rail with his fists as he sees the arrow fly past the shaman once again. He looks behind him noticing Brick standing there dumbfounded. "Brick" Beren growls once again, "Gently put her down, and use that club to smash those fishmen."
Brick sets the dancer down on a relatively safe section of the deck, and turns toward a pair of sahuagin that have just cleared the railing.
The lead fishman stops in his tracks when he sees the seven-foot tall, club-wielding warforged plodding towards him.
Brick stops and stares at the sahuagin.
The sahuagin stares back at Brick.
Suddenly, the sahuagin makes its move. Lunging towards the giant ceramic man, it shrieks and raises its trident for a killing blow.
Brick lets out a bellow of surprise, raising his arms to cover his face. He has forgotten that he has been clutching his club with both of his massive, three-fingered fists.
Attack roll: 18 + 2 = 20
The warforged jerks the giant steeel bar straight up, much as an angler would set a hook in a fish. Brick's club catches the fishman across the jaw, snapping its neck and flipping it over Brick's head. The sahuagin lands in a crumpled heap about twenty feet away, its trident clattering on the decking.
Damage roll: 10 + 2 = 12. Since sahuagin only have 11 HP on average, I assume this kills it.

The Sahuagin Shaman screams in agony is the arrow pierces his arm, for a moment his concentraition seems to falter, and he almost loses his balance.

You do hit and kill, but needed to use a move action to engage, so you are in debt one fortitude save.
Brick's amaxing lacluster and remarkably luck shot managed to catch the newly promoted leader of the forward party under the chin, snapping his neck, and launching him off the side of the ship and into the water again.
On 18: The forward party is now in complete disarray, surrounded by the wounded half-giant, Brick and Raustikin, they attampt to break out of the cage.
Two press their attack on the half-giant, one managing to surpass his defenses.
One attacks Brick: To Hit 2+4 = 6 chuckle
The other attacks Raustikin: To hit 3+4 = 6 blush
After their attacks, all four sahuagin attempt to leap over the rail. Attacks of opportunity for Raustikin and Brick. The giant misses his...
On 16: The leader of the aft party seems to find who they have been looking for in a man whose legs are crushed and useless trapped beneath one of the fallen masts. The Sahuagin group leader begins screaming, “Tessik, oo shidai as nahol ruta, golin nehol. Sada Nohuul koi nahalost!”
In Aquan
While raising his spear over his head. In response to his screaming, the tip of the spear bursts into a sickly green flame.
Rokko on 15

Spot = 14+4 = 18
"What in the name of the Host? Oh, crud... I really need to get off this boat."
Can I make out any further detail?
Most of whatever the creature is remains submerged under the water, apparently the Sahuagin is riding it, and is presently standing in the stirrups, as it were.

Rokko |

Rokko decides its time for the little guy to make a stand. Well, attack from a well-hidden position. He fires his crossbow at the fishman that Beren flailed at.
I'm assuming it's within 30' for my Point Blank Shot to work. Using an action point (roll = 6). Roll = 8 + 4 + 1 + 6 = 16. Damage = 3 + 1 = 4.
Spot check = 7. I hope it isn't important.
Move action reload.

![]() |

Sorry rokko, 16 is a miss
On 12: The fire continues to spread, the heat gradually growing more intense. Apparently the damage to the hull is growing severe as you begin to hear moaning and creaking rising from the timbers.
On 10: The half-giant looms over the rail, looking at the Sahuagin who have jumped off the ship and shakking his fist. It is apparent that every movement causes him great pain.
Beren

Rokko |

I also can't add up right, since my total was 19. But that's my look-out, so I'll take the miss - I get the feeling that a strategic withdrawal may be the best answer, rather than attempting a miliary solution. For future reference, what exits are available from the boat?

In that case you hit, no kill though. And I think you owe me a fortitude save for the heat. As for exits, the entire length of the outer rail is only about 5 feet above the water, or you could climb up and walk the tightrope across the mooring line to the dock.

Beren Kemble |

Beren starts feeling the intense heat, and realizes that he should get Valessa off of this ship. He fires another arrow at the shaman.
attk w/bow (roll 10+3+6 (action point)=19 Damage=8
Seeing his shot finally hit true, Beren growls in satisfaction, then says, first looking at the half-giant, "Don't worry about them, get off the ship." Then to Brick, "Brick, jump in the water and walk to shore." Then to Valessa, and he raises his voice hoping that everyone else will hear, "We have to get off of this ship."
fortitude st (roll 14+3=17) Is the best way off of the ship over the rail or can we reach the mooring line in 1 round and do a hand-over-hand drag of ourselves to get to shore?

Beren's arrow flys straight and true, striking the Sahuagin to the high left side of his chest... where fortune intervenes and the tip skips off a buckle of his armor.
Climbing up the ship will require a double move, but it could be done in a single round.

Brick |

"Wouldn't it be better if I carried people off of the boat? I could help."
Brick does not take his AoO.

hmm, i posted a response to this last night... where did it go...
Looking around for the recognizable garish clothing of Barhos Zephuly, you find him, or at least what is left of him, currently dripping off the forecastle deck from a messy puddle under the remains of the foremast.

Raustikin |

AoO
6+3+3 = 12 (Oy, these roles)
Spot
8+3-3 = 8 (Maybe I should find another online dice roller).
Fort
6+3 = 9 (Yeh, I think I do)
Raustikin, confused and angry, looks around. His little hairs are getting singed, which is painful even if it is not technically hurting him. He sees the fishmen have taken an interest in someone on the aft.
Before my action, I'd like to know a couple things. Is Heavenly safe? And what would it take to reach the sahuagin on the aft (do I have to go up or down and how far away are they) and how many are there? I might try to help the guy they were searching for, but I'm not sure yet.

Raustikin |

Anyone can reach the spear wielding, impending coupe de grace, Sahuagin with no more than a DC 5 balance check.
Alright then, I attack. Balance 3+2 (barely!).
Attack role Natural 20 (finally) + 3 (plus whatever other modifiers, I don't know if I still have the higher ground). Assuming a hit, here's damage 4+6=10.

Ruuz |

Ruuz reloads his crossbow as Raustikin charges the Sahuagin with the flaming trident. Ruuz trains his crossbow on the shamean in the water and fires.
Attack 19 + 2 + 6(action point) = 27
damage 7 + 2 + 4 + 5 = 18
Fortitude save 14 + 5(action point) = 19
The heat from the deck slams into Ruuz like a solid wall, 'Time to get out of here.' Ruuz quickly takes a look around as the smoke and heat sting his eyes and starts heading towards one of the mooring lines leading off the boat.
Not reloading my crossbow this round so I can move.

That should be right.
The shaman screams in anguish and pain as your cursedly effective bolt sinks deep into his chest.
On 3: Several of the serving girls, including Heavenly, begin jumping over the rail into the water.
On 2: The minotaur bleeds on the deck a bit.

Reflex save is 19 + 2 = 21 (Dice like me today, makes up for all the poor spot checks. do I round up or down?)
Damage of 7 or 6(hopefully six) HP at 0 or -1

The smell of burn flesh and ozone fill the air. Ruuz's last thought passes though his pain filled mind, 'Well I don't think I will have to worry about those cursed Canniths anymore.'
