On 12: You start hearing shouts of fire coming through the rift in the main deck. Many of the patrons are trying to get to the ramp to get off the ship, and in the humanoid stampede you can see and hear people getting trampled.

Amidst the ruins of the ship, several of the serving girls are struggling to free themselves from the cords binding them to the deck.

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

Beren turns to respond to the goblin.

CRACK
A lightning bolt strikes the forecastle mast. It breaks away crashing into the deck and crushing patrons instantly. The ship heaves. Beren watches an ejected deck board slam against the goblin knocking him out of view. That same instant …

Beren gapes as Valessa is torn from her feet. Beren reaches out for her, but then has to react as debris hurtles toward him. Beren quickly falls back out of his chair, his feet landing solid on the floor. He whips out the chair from under him, hunches down, and braces the chair as a make-shift shield. The debris slams off the now vertical seat, changes direction and soars off into the sea . He follows the debris’ path into the ocean and more dread catches his eye.

CRACK

Another lightning strike at the other end of the ship sends a second mast crashing into the chaos below.

Beren glances at her. “Take cover. There is also one out at sea. I believe he is causing the lightning.” Beren remembers orc shaman performing similar acts with the same result.

Then two groups of the devil-like fishmen board the ship. and fire breaks out. Beren takes out his bow and notches an arrow.

“Brick” Beren snarles, “Keep those fishmen away from me, and if you can, help those girls get those ropes off their ankles.”

Beren, intent on taking out what he believes to be the lightning maker, gets to the rail, takes aim with his bow, and shoots.

(reflex save 2+4+ 4 (used action point) = 10), (Balance check 10+4=14),
(Spot check 20+5=25)

Attack roll w/ bow (roll 6+3=9), damage, if app. (2)

Beren will continue to fire his bow at the believed shaman/druid, unless Valessa is in trouble or the fish guys enter into melee with him. To not provoke AoO, Beren will then draw his longsword and attack.

"All right."

Next round, Brick is going to do something, but at the moment, he can't. How's that for logic.

Raustikin stands and looks around, taking in the situation. He looks for Heavenly and pulls out his weapon. He can feel the wildness growing on him.

If Heavenly is alive, he moves between her and the sahuagin. If not, he merely prepares for battle. He shifts.

I'm going on vacation for the next three days. I probably won't have much access to a computer, but Utak, feel free to run my character. Just don't get me killed! Thanks everyone.

On 5: The ship suddenly lists heavily to the starboard side, somewhere below the damage has allowed flooding to begin. The ramp, and the herd of people on it are flung into the air. The fortunate land in the water, the less so land with sickening crunches on the side of the ship, or on the pier itself.

Elsewhere on the ship, those who recovered too slowly find themselves thrown against the rails, or worse knocked overboard.

Fortune smile upon you as two of the Sahuagin near the aft of the ship knocked from their feet, and slide towards the rail. The first manages to get a tenuous grip on the rail until his friend careens into him uncontrolled, and they both tumble over the side in a tangle of flailing limbs.

Once again, balance checks for everyone on the boat, DC 12 (DC 15 if you fell before, and have not gotten up yet), fail by less than 5, fall where you are, more than 5 fall to the rail, more than 10, and have a nice swim.

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

Valessa makes the balance check by the skin of her teeth: 8+4 = 12

if necessary, Raustikin's tentative Balance check (roll 9+2=11) oops, sorry

What trouble? Paranoid shifter.
Ruuz sits leans back as a goblin leans over and introduces himself. As the goblin finishes lightning cracks through the air and the main mast shatters. What the... Ruuz staggers to his feet as the yard arm crashes into his table and flattens it.
Reflex save 15 + 2 = 17

Ruuz looks around and suddenly all boat pitches to one side and he luckily staggers with the roll and stays on his feet.
Balance check 13 - 1 = 12

What is going on some random lightning storm? Ruuz looks out to sea and see a strange creature waving his arms. Thats strange!! Everyone around hims is shouting and grabbing their weapons and then it hits him, we are under attack. I think I should quit drinking for a while I am not usually this slow to act.

Another lightning bolt hits and the other mast comes crashing down, luckily again Ruuz manages a half drunk stagger and stays on his feet.
Balance check 17 - 1 = 16

Ruuz smacks himself in the face, Wake up you need to act here. Looking down he grabs his crossbow and loads a bolt, know I'm ready he thinks to himself, looking for a target as he feels the magical energy he needs for his infusion.
Wow a lot happened there. Think I have used all my turn if not I will use an action point and infuse my crossbow with Weapon Augmentation Sahuagin bane.

I’m probably not going to able to post for the next 80 hours or so – I figure Valessa’s turn will probably come about before that (given that there’s only some “stuff happens” and enemy group 1 acting ahead of her at this stage).

If the delay becomes an issue, below are some spoilers to guide our esteemed party leader in NPCing Valessa, including dice rolls – assuming the situation doesn’t change dramatically between now and then.

Spoiler:
If there is a sahuagin within 30 ft of her that appears to be in a position to – or with intent to - threaten one of the tethered wenches, Valessa will stand up behind the table and fire an arrow at this one from her shortbow. If not, she will fire at the one holding the stone tablet in the forecastle group.
How’s this for a first attack roll of the campaign – natural 20! – total 22 (damn, should have aimed for the lightening caller!). Roll to confirm crit, burning an action point (I assume I can do this to confirm a crit?) and using Action Boost feat: 13+2+2 (d8 roll) = 17.
Damage = 5 + 6 (from critical, if relevant) + 4 (from sneak attack, if relevant – it may not be, I’m a little hazy on my sneak attack rules, but given that I was hidden hopefully that works.)

If this is NPC’d I’ll follow up with some flavour text when I’m back on line.

Time for me to play a bit of catch up

Beren has picked his way to within a few feet of the rail of the ship, smoothly drawing his bow as he moved, and fired. Unfortunately, the unpredictible motion of the ship spoils his aim and the shot goes terribly wide. More unfortunately, the 'twang' of his bow string illicits an angry grunt from one of the forward boarders.

When the ship heaves upward, Beren takes an involuntary step towards the rail, putting him directly against it.

Raustikin's eyes have found heavenly, still bound to the deck. However, when the ship listed, she lost her footing, and has slid won to the limit of the rope. She is now hanging by one ankle, roughly 10 feet "above" the rail, and luckily with Beren between her and the Sahuagin. Unfortunately, she appears to be unconcious.

On 3: One of the serving 'girls' reveals her true nature as beatifully tanned skin melts away into flat gray. 'She' breaks the wine bottle she had been carrying and prepares to cut her self free.

On 0: The slowly sinking ship finds purchase on the shallow sea bed. Had the masts still been intact, or the mooring lines been loose, it would have certainly rolled completely into the water.

---

Updated scene description:

The ship is now resting on the shallow sea bed, standing about 45° to the water line. You can hear ominous creaking coming from the mooring lines as the ship pulls against them. The water is currently less than 5 feet below the outer rail.

Moving up the ship, that is away from the outer rail, is considered difficult terrain (double cost, no charging etc.) while moving any other direction counts as normal, but add 1 square of movement towards the rail.

(Wish I had had time to make a map)

The shaman's head lifts up suddenly in response to the arrow flying in his general direction. A barely audible arcane syllable and another bolt comes arcing out of the sky, this time towards Beren.

Beren needs a reflex save... (Decide if you are spending an action point before going on)

Spoiler:
Damage is 5, DC16 save for half.

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

On 21:

Valessa stands up, and glancing around to check on the tethered women find none of them in immediate danger, so instead she fixes on the tablet carrying Sahuagin.

The 'leader' is outside the 30' band for sneak attack, being the most distant of the group.

The arrow slams into his shoulder, just above where a human's heart would be, spinning him around. He looses his balance, and pitches over the rail, apparently lifeless.

M/n Warforged Cleric 3 / Paladin 1

Heeding Beren's advice, Brick scans the area. Spot: 19 + 2 = 21 Sure enough, he spots Heavenly dangling from her chain. Brick begns to move as quickly as possible, trying to get to the other side of the ship without falling. Not that it's a big deal. He just wants to please his new friends. He doesn't need to breathe, so having to walk along the bottom for a few minutes is pretty trivial.

Balance: 10 + 3 = 13

Brick's movement places him directly "above" Beren, and along side Heavenly.

Brick still has a standard action if he chooses.

I thought so, but I wasn't sure-- chaos reigned at that particular moment.

Brick kneels and grabs the chain, hauling the dancer to the deck of the ship much as a fisherman hauls in a fish. Strength check: 14 + 2 = 16

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

correct me if I am wrong. I am picuturing that 'Heavenly' is lying unconcious on the deck, but because of the pitch she is 'above' Beren and her tether is stretched to the limit 'above' her.

Beren's interpretation was correct, however, reading intent, I will rule that Brick has managed to help Heavenly regain her feet, and in so doing relieved the increased blood pressure on her brain pan. She will be functional again soon.

Finally, one of them steps up on the rail, and jumps down into the water, while the rest set a defensive ring, preparing to receive charges with their tridents.

On 16:

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

question before I go. The fishmen, are they attacking or are they just searching the passengers, probably looking for a specific individual? Is the 'leader' referring to the tablet as if it was some type of picture?

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

The forward group is milling about confused with their leader knocked from the ship...

The rear group is not specifically attacking (that is with weapons) anyone, though they are being none to gentle in their treatment of people. On the unstable and of kilter ship, their tender ministrations have probably sent one or two people over the rail.

Oh, and that is exactly how the "leader" is refering to the tablet.

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

Beren stands at the rail and takes aim, but with the listing of the ship and the strong ocean breeze that he is unaccustomed to, his shot goes wide. His arrow whistles past the shaman, the fishman's head rises and an angry gaze settles on Beren. Their eyes meet and instantly, his finger points directly at Beren.

CRACK
Lightning lances down to rattle Beren’s body. He almost falls, weakened by the jolt. He shakes it off though, his hair standing more wild and his body slightly blackened and smoking. The shifter blood in him wants to launch another arrow and draw blood, but the soldier in him starts perusing through the battlefield and another idea comes to mind.

Perceiving that the fishmen on the ship are not attacking, in fact, they appear to be looking for something, he remembers back to a conversation he overheard earlier.

Knowing full well that he probably would not survive another attack, meaning he would never fulfill his commitment to avenge his tutor’s assassination, and also realizing that if this conflict could be ended quickly with no more fighting, this would protect Valessa from more combat, Beren decides on a different approach.

"Valessa, stay hidden. I may be able to finish this without more spilt blood. I am going to talk to the leader."

Beren rushes to the leader left on the deck. Beren runs as far as he can up to ten to fifteen feet away, but within shouting distance of the leader, if possible. Beren stops, looks at the leader, and attempts to get his attention. "Hey Fishman! Let's talk. I may have information for you." diplomacy check (roll 7+1 +3 (used action point) =11 )

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

retrospectively….

“Oh, excellent idea Ein’s boss, tying the damn girls to the damn deck,” mutters Valessa, peering out from behind the tilted table, and noticing one of the serving girls struggling with the rope attaching her to the ship. Another girl goes sliding along the tilted deck, towards where Beren and Brick are standing.

Glancing around the other side of the table, Valessa sees a group of Sahuagin about thirty feet away – and seemingly heading in the direction of one the struggling girls. “Damn, damn,” whispers Valessa again, quietly nocking an arrow to her bow. This is not what she had in mind…

Don’t think. Just do. Concentrate on Beren’s archery training. Valessa stands, and scans the area, seeking targets. In an instant she sees that her earlier supposition, that the fishmen were threatening the bound girls, was wrong. Then she notices one of the Sahuagin, armed differently to the rest, and seemingly leading the group. Leader. Take out the leader. In one fluid motion, with a skill that would surprise her if she was conscious of it, Valessa shifts position, raises her bow, and lets the arrow fly.

It flies true and straight, hitting the fishman in the shoulder, spinning him, and toppling him over the rail.

Valessa watches the arrow fly with detachment, but when it hits, reality comes back to her. She stands, stupidly, mouth open, staring at the now vacant space by the rail with shock. “What did I do?” she whispers.

Ok, now we are waiting on Raustikin for real. And Beren gets to stew until the fish men act again to see if an 11 was good enough... DRAMATIC MUSIC

Male Shifter Psychic Warrior 1

As the ship pitches, Raustikin loses his bearing and falls. Looking around he sees Brick has secured Heavenly but also notices Beren talking to the fishmen. Cautious, Raustikin stays behind a table, looking around for any motion of violence, ready to pounce on any fishmen that harm any of the ladies.

I'm going to ready my action for any sign of direct attack and basically get a handle on the scene. If the sahuagin are handling any of the girls roughly, I'm going to do what I can to help the ladies.

Ruuz gathers the energy for his infusion, the world around him changes slightly as he starts to see the magic flowing around him. As he prepares to infuse his crossbow Beren shouts at one of the sea devils. 'Is he trying to talk to them?', Ruuz looks around and notices that none of them other than the shaman looking one in ocean has attacked yet.

'Oh well might as well be prepared.', Ruuz gathers the rest of the energy needed and pushes it into his crossbow.

With a bellow of songful rage the Minotaur Bard jumps deftly over the hole in the deck, draws his great axe from his back, and moves towards the boarders at the rear.

His leap carries him within a few feet of one of the underling boarders, and with a mighty hack, he splits it in twain.

If I didn't already have that written down, I would feel like I was rail roading
END OF ROUND

For those who have been watching, you can now see a pattern to the sahuagin's actions. They are deffinetly only searching human (or passibly human) males, ignoring everyone else.

If I can attack, the result would be 18+3 = 21, dam 15 hp.

Trying to snap herself out of the feeling which has come over her – she’s potentially fighting for her life here after all! – Valessa raises her bow again, and seeks another Sahugin target. But now her hands are shaking, and try as she might she cannot take steady aim. The arrow she looses flies off at an angle, splashing harmlessly down into the ocean.

I had the scimitar weapon ready - this is the only one I brought with me to the boat. I didn't realize that the shaman was so far away (I'm having a little trouble visualizing the scene, probably since I didn't succeed with any Spot checks). I guess I'll just wait for any violence happening nearby or help anyone that looks to be in immediate danger.

On 18: Three of the four trident armed Sahuagin from the front party turn to engage the half-giant, who screams in agony when he is struck tellingly by two of the three. Meanwhile the fourth stoops to help another Sahuagin over the rail. Apparently this is the one who dove back into the water a moment ago, and he is carrying the stone tablet.

On 16: Working together, two of the aft boarding party attempt to use a table to drive the minotaur backwards into the hole in the deck, but because of the difficulty moving up the deck at him, he manages to hit and decapitate one of them.

Sadly, before he can celebrate his neck blossoms an oddly shaped spike, from which a line traces back to the odd crossbow like device. He fights on bravely, but it is apparent that his life is nearly spent.

The others continue their search, still looking to the leader, or more specifically the tablet he carries for guidance. But now they have taken to brutally stabbing their victims with their weapons.

Watching the fishmen you are struck by what seems to be hesitation, in their actions.
