An editorial question: Malcanthet, the big picture (hopefully will contain major spoilers :)

Dear Dungeon Editors,

What's the deal with Malcanthet's plans. There are numerous references to this subplot but no coverage of the whole idea. Can you please give some hints or just simply put it down?

I know i could (and probably should) wait for the final episode to run in, but i have two players who i already started to get connected to the plot without knowing what the core idea is.

Malcanthet's plans are summarized in a sidebar in issue #141, on page 38. They're also talked about a bit in Dragon #353, the issue that contains her Demonomicon entry.

Basically, she's Demogorgon's current lover and she realized he was up to something big and knows that if he gets more powerful, she won't be able to subvert and control him and he'd be more dangerous, so she's quietly orchestrating the PCs into the position where they can stop whatever it is that he's up to. She may have another plan under this, but that plan isn't yet revealed. She's cagey like that.

I'll add my voice to this question. After reading the first mentions of Malcanthet I got busy with one of my players who had a Forgotten Realms feat - Godsight - that meant that he had the favour of some god or other. You don't know what God it is, I told him, sneakily waiting for the chance to spring it on him that it's Malcanthet.

So yeah, more motives and plans would be great for me too. I can get heavily into the foreshadowing subtleties.

Thanks for the info James, I can't wait to read that sidebar. In the meantime, I have to figure out in what depth would Malcanthet help the PCs. As for now I used her to raise a dead PC cleric (of Sune :) in a near TPK situation, placing her mark on him, which allows her to see thru his eyes and gives him bonus on saves (based on the dragon article on her). i also have a fey'ri rouge player girl who i will tell later she is a daughter of Malcanthet. Maybe will use the fey'ri to lure the cleric in the web of Malcanthet. Also there is this inprisoned succubus Shami-A... Maybe her case will give the thing a twist? Whats the connection?

Ah a fey'ri rogue. I miss mine. I'd love to hear fey'ri stories though.
