Non-standard Non-magical Rewards for Characters?

Scarab Sages

At some point in our current campaign, I would like to give the PCs a reward of sorts. This reward would probably come from a rather powerful character/creature (god, powerful dragon, outsider, etc.). I don't want to simply give them a magic item and I would like it to be more significant that a stat improvement or something like a bonus feat. Anyone know of any optional/alternative rules that might have something like this in mind or does anyone have any ideas on what kinds of rewards I could give different characters and still keep them fairly balanced with each other?

You could have the entity bestow them with an extraordinaty, spell-like, or supernatural ability of some sort. Have it be presented very ceremoniously. Such as:

Entity (to the fighter): "Jorael, for your dedication to protecting your friends and stalwart determination, I bestow upon you the strength and stability of the mountains themselves." (PC receives Defensive Stance ability 1/day from Dwarven Defender PrC, even if not a dwarf)
Entity (to the rogue): "Mezzim, for your swiftness and cunning, I award you the shadows themselves. May they follow you wherever you need." (PC receives Hide in Plain Sight.)
Entity (to the wizard): "Auris, for your keen mind and potent arcane arts, I grant you the power to always be prepared." (PC receives the ability to swap out any spell they've memorized for another spell of that spell level in their spellbook 1/day.)

You get the point. It could be cool.

I have given out (and received) stat bonuses, extra skill points, extra feat etc...in one recent Dragon, Wormfood series, there was this one interesting fountain that if you drank from it, you could choose one negative penalty and roll random benefit or other way around...maybe a sip from that?

Then on more physical side, there are things like land, titles, regular income etc which are big things in feodal society...

Check out Supplemental #6 at Roleplaying Tips. It's got good stuff in there. :)
