Dwarves of Greyhawk

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

Can anyone tell me where I can find information on dwarven society in Greyhawk, specifically the names of the high ranking members of the Church of Moradin? Or does nothing like this exist?

Pssh, make names up, it's easy. Just give them a Nordic first name, and a surname made of any two words relating to stone, axes, hammers, armour or facial hair.

It's not Greyhawk, but it's the next best thing. The Dwarves of Rockhome is Mystara, but this little beauty goes into great detail about a dwarven society and their religion. Change the name 'Kagyar' to read 'Moradin' and your job's half done.

And if someone could teach me how to make links in these boards, I'd make it all pretty and clickable for you.

I think there is some stuff on a couple dwarven clans in the bright desert or something... 2nd Ed. Players Guide to Greyhawk or some such. Also The Axe of the Dwarvish Lords by Skip Williams pub.1999 was really cool. not a lot of "culture" but cool environment.

One of the beauties of Greyhawk is the setting is fairly open to such specifics as NPC names and the like. It sure isn't the Forgotten Realms where every privy in Waterdeep has grid coordinates and lists of how much tp is in stock at each locale and the name of the commoner handing you a towel at the sink. Generally a 5-minute Google search ought to turn up the obvious choices for any Greyhawk query. If those answers are not satisfactory, dig a little deeper. If you're still not coming up with anything then surely your "rules lawyer" isn't either. Make stuff up then.

Once upon a time, there was a 2E document that someone had done for Dwarves and Gnomes of Greyhawk that broke down Clan names by region and the like. My five minute Google search came up empty and I apparently don't have an electronic version on the work PC but I'll check if I still have it at home. If so, I'll pass that information along.

When all else fails I consult Living Greyhawk websites for Greyhawk info. Check out the Principality of Ulek LG website (Florida/Puerto Rico region). The link to their page is here:

http://thepou.net/index.php?section=home&page=1

On their site, check out the metagame organization "Keepers of the Soul Forge". It has info on their take on the Temple of Moradin.

The P of Ulek is the nation with the largest concentration of dwarves.
Other sites listed in the gazetteer as having lots of dwarves are (obviously) mountainous areas: Lortmils, Glorioles, Crystalmists, Iron Hills, and Ratik (the Rakers). Give a google search on those places. Ratik is also a Living Greyhawk region and has a website but I didn't see much info specifically on dwarves there.

Feel free to root through their character lists and use some of the players' characters as NPCs.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of the help and information, guys. This really is one of the best online communities around.

I'll admit that I had an ulterior motive when I asked this question. I'm a big fan of the dwarven race (ask my DMs, I plan them constantly), yet I hadn't encountered any material that gives a detailed outline of the Church of Moradin. So I've been toying with the idea of writing an article on my version of the church's holy family, which I have named the Kinrock clan. I just want to make sure that there isn't conflicting information floating around out there before I submit the article to Dragon for their consideration.

Question: Does the Thunder Blessing of FR exist in Greyhawk?
