Liberty's Edge

So whaddya think?

UHH!! GIRL WITH A M16 INSTEAD OF A LEG!!!! DID I MENTION SHE IS ALMOST NAKED!!!

Haven't seen it yet, but I want to. Two ludicrous films for the price of one.

Liberty's Edge

I'm so there.

That about sums it up right there.

I can't wait to see who out-does the other, Tarantino or Roderiguez.

Paizo Employee Creative Director

This movie's an early contender for Best Picture of the Year, as far as I'm concerned. Althoguh there's a couple of awesome Stephen King adaptations on the way ("1408" and "The Mist").

This movie is going to be a ridiculous good time. In case you dont know, these are an homage to the old 70's exploitation films - of which QT & RR are big fans. They are meant to be rude, crude, and crappy. I am most interested to see how two big name directors are able to make their films look amateur on purpose. Should be funny.

Rumor has it that there are also previews for other movies in between the "Features". Tarantino and Rodriguez chose a bunch of different filmmakers to work on these trailers, including the guys from Shaun of the Dead.

I cant wait.

Looks great! There is a second 'newer' trailer over on apple now.

Liberty's Edge

My wife says I gotta go see it alone...

So take the girlfriend instead? :P

I get to go see it at Alamo Drafthouse which has me way more excited than it should. I love both these directors so I'm looking forward to the weekend!

Wow. Amazing. You can get bonus points by quoting Pulp Fiction (in regards to getting a beer in a glass at the movie theater) to your friends/significant other while you're there.

I'm super excited. When I saw the trailer on TV one night, I jumped up and down for about 15 minutes giggling with glee. My step ma almost had a heart attack she laughed so hard.

Huh, where'd you see that? I missed it. MUST LOOK! I got to go see Snake's on a Plane opening nite down there & they had Samuel Jackson beer, it was GREAT!

LOVED THIS/THESE MOVIE(S)!!!

Spoiler:
If you're squimish you might want to just go to Death Proof as Planet Terror is probably the most violent bloody movie I've ever seen. Needless to say, me & my big ass truck w/the Hemi made it home in record time after watching Death Proof. Never piss off women driving muscle cars/trucks! *heehee*

I LOVE the Alamo Drafthouse, to the point where I insisted on seeing Casino Royale there.

The fake prevues alone are worth the price of admission. Rodriguez's "Planet Terror" may be the very best movie I've seen in my life. It was definitely the most entertaining.

Deathproof I was a little "meh" on...but there was enough goodness in it to make up for the horribly overwritten scenes and lack of any real drive (pun, muhahaaha) to the "plot."

Grindhouse is not to be missed.

Spoiler:
My very favorite moment was Jeff Fahey's "Boy's got the Devil in him" quick cut during El Rey's gun twirling sequence...that and the MISSING REEL cut!!! Funniest filmic convention I've seen in a decade!

totally agree! apparently there is a Canada only 'fake' preview called Hobo with a Shotgun which kind of gives you the idea for the amount of violence inherent in the system of the film. WARNING! don't click near children or bosses (unless they are into that kind of stuff).

I'm with ya Nick on the Deathproof 'meh'ness. Kind of masturbatory of Q to do, but still fun...and the last 20 mins make up for that talkytalky stuff.

Pretty much every scene Kurt is in is great.

IMO, This one is opposite of their last teamup. "From Dusk till Dawn" was great till the goodguys crossed the border and Rodriguez took over shooting. In that movie, the first (Tarantino) part was my fav and the last was too much, this time the Rodriguez/Planet Terror part is my fav by far. Like Nick said, it may be the best movie he's seen.

I can't wait for the dvd to see what other trailers they come up with to package into the superduperdeluxe 8-disc collectors edition!

Spoiler:
What do you think happeneed to that cheerleader chick?

Kirth - I missed out on Casino Royale. But, I've now seen Grindhouse twice at 2 different Alamo's. I think if I had seen it in a "regular" theater, it just would loose the grindhouseness effect.

Drunken_Nomad - I can only imagine what the "Directors Cut" of this dvd will be like. Thank goodness we'll be able to pause it in our own home. I hated having to regulate my drink in-take. :O)

Everyone else - GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!

Scarab Sages

I read this morning that, because of the poor box office performance so far, they are thinking about re-releasing in a few weeks as two separate movies with additional footage.

I thought Planet Terror was just plain stupid. Great acting in it though and a few laughs. A couple of those cliche lines like "the devil's in that one" made me really laugh hard. Can't recommend it though due to the cringing grossness and sheer stupidity. Although, I know, don't tell me: that's what grindhouse movies are supposed to be like. Still a waste of time.

Loved the opening trailer for "Machete". That's the one I would have loved to seen for the pure cheese.

Now "Death Proof", we are talking. Snappy dialogue, hot females, muscle cars, accidents, crazy stunts, a serial killer and LOTS of attitude. Kurt Russell was priceless. Any fan of Tarantino should see this one for pure originality and freshness.

Saw Grindhouse at the Alamo last night! A perfect combination... I don't think I would have enjoyed it half as much in a regular theatre.

Nick: On this one, I have to totally disagree with you, my man. I thought "Deathproof" was awesome.

To all the guys here: I think I'm in love with Zoe.

Ha! Fair enough! For what it's worth I think I would have loved "Deathproof" on its own...but after the helter-skelter laugh-a-second adrenaline-shot madness of "Planet Terror" I wasn't in the mood for the pace change. I think if I had just sat down and watched Deathproof by itself, I would have loved it. Kurt Russell was outstandalicious. And Zoe is a goddess on wheels. That was amazing stuff.

I was just ready for more "Planet Terror" antics after it ended so I think that led to my disappointment with "Deathproof." I needed to shift gears and I wanted to stay in overdrive!!! ;-)

For what it's worth, my wife felt the same way as you do. But she might be immune to Zoe's charm. ;)

Just got back from seeing it a second time. COOL AS HELL!

Finally saw it. LUDICROUS is the word. I always know I liked a movie when, after I leave, all I want to do is 1. shoot something 2. punch something 3.smoke a cigarette (and I don't smoke!) and 4. jump Rose McGowan's bones. I mean, I kind of always want to do number four. But still. Schindler's List gave me the ol' feeling, this one did too.

If this is an accurate portrayal of life in Texas (where 3/4s of the experience took place), sign me up.

Also, I think Quentin Tarantino was raised by sailors, because I have never heard the word "M%%%!@*&%$+%" so many times in rapid succession.

And watching Kurt Russell cry is amazingly entertaining.

Aargh, I want to see these movies, but on the other hand, I'm terrible with gory violent movies. I saw 300 and was ready to not go to the movie theater for another month. (I liked 300, btw. It just was very intense for me.)

Maybe I'll wait for the DVD...when I can just turn the movie off if I can't take it.

(Poor cowardly me...;) )

Absolute genius! I desperately hope that the producers bite the bullet, and release these together, if only as a dual-disc special edition. The two movies are designed to compliment one another.

Truly, it's a film that MUST (my first time using caps on a message board, ever...) be seen in the theaters to be enjoyed fully; rather, to maintain that "avant-garde" aesthetic. Would be a shame if it didn't at least get Academy Award nominations for Best Picture (Pictures?) and Best Special Effects.

...besides, Rose McGowan with a machine-gun leg fulfills my fantasies to, like, the "n-th degree"!

Cameo by Tom Savini: Check.
Rose McGowan doing...anything: Check
Hilarious fake previews: Check (DON'T!!)
Parodies done right, with love: Double Check
Kurt Russell crying: Check
Directors doing what they want with their own money: Check

Sounds like "Movie of the Year" to me.

Why does everyone like Rose McGowan so much? I must be missing something. Zoe, on the other hand... wow!

I was in love ever since Doom Generation

Rosario Dawson's character in "25th Hour" deserves to be featured in a Nic Logue urban adventure as ambiguous, mysterious NPC.

That's with that movie that I became very partial to Rosario...

I must have missed that one... a pity. Maybe I can get it through Netflix.

For any other Zoe Bell fans here: I'm watching "Double Dare" (something of a video biography) and she's every bit as cool as she seems. I'll never watch "Kill Bill" the same way again!

I don't really get her appeal that much... it's possibly diminished after being tainted by Maryln Manson.

Now, Rosario Dawson however..... *drools happily to self*

I missed this comment, but let me just say "YES!!" 1408 should rock ass! I have a copy of King reading it (and a couple others, the 'Blood and Smoke' stories) and it is wonderfully creepy.

She seems like a cool chick, that's for sure!

Well Rose was also married to Marilyn Manson as someone else pointed out, but it did give us that dress. I still haven't seen this movie (slow Aussie cinema release dates)!!!

This is another thing I try to pretend is an internet urban legend.

Liberty's Edge

Just saw Planet Terror----kiiiiiiick asssss!
Great zombie flick, ridiculous action. Now to rent Deathproof...

Loved them both awesome flicks!!!Although I wanted more trailers

Liberty's Edge

Yeh....the trailers were badass.

Liberty's Edge

Now I saw Deathproof. That was the best of the two to me.

That's one of the wildest car chase movies I ever seen. BAMYOW!!!!
OMG, I was totally tensed up.

Spoiler:
When the two cars collide is the most/must be the most horrid car crash on film!

I agree. I liked Deathproof much more than Planet Terror. Rodriguez is super cheesey and it's fun and everything, but I'd much rather watch a Tarantino film. The big criticism with Deathproof was that it's too talky, but the talky part was well written and you get to see the villain built up a lot before they get their comeuppance. Apparently the hilarious fake trailers aren't included in the dvds, which pisses me off.

Just bought 'em both on DVD: "Planet Terror" for my wife, "Death Proof" for me. She likes zombie movies and young tattoo guys with stupid little chin-things. I like Tarantino and Kurt Russell, and I LOVE Zoe Bell.

Seeing them both together, with the fake trailers, at the Alamo Draft House remains one of my high points from last year.

Zoe reminds me of a girl I went to high school with. Crazy stunts and all. They even look quite a bit alike.

Don't hate on the Antichrist Superstar.

Kurt Russell should get an Oscar. He went out so weak, it was perfect. I give him mad props.

This is being released in Australia as two seperate movies. The distributors had some bulls**t line about how a four hour R-rated movie wouldn't sell enough tickets to justify, and they could make more money off seperate releases.

I was really looking forward to the double-bill with the fake intermission and everything. Now I'm not going to see them at the movies on principle. I mean, how annoying is that? Way to take all the fun out of it.

Then again maybe QT should start doing TV series. He doesn't seem to be able to keep it short, judging from Kill Bill and now this.
