The Next Gargantuan Dragon 'mini'--what's your pick?

Liberty's Edge

So...this is probably the wrong place for this thread; but I'm off duty today and feeling too lazy to find the 'right' place. The Question: What is the next gargantuan Dragon you'd like to see WoTC produce? For my money, GREEN. As an aside, has anyone noticed how stunning and perfectly-sized the McFarlane Dragons are?...

Brass Dragon....love 'em.....

Silver or White - those are some of the hardest to fudge with toys or non-D&D sources.

The white is next. Actually it's a gargantuan white, a human, and a certain dual-scimitar weilding dark elf ranger.

I'd like to see one of the oriental dragons, or one of the crystal dragons...or a hex dragon...:)

Or purple, yellow and orange dragons! Yeah!

Scarab Sages

As noted above, the white is next - Icingdeath, along with Wulfgar and a new Drizzt. They're also going to provide the battle scenario between the three, which should be interesting.

Liberty's Edge

I should have asked, "If you could make the decision, which dragon would you like to see next."

From the WoTC site:
"2008 marks the 20th anniversary of Drizzt, appearing in R.A. Salvatore’s The Crystal Shard. This product kicks off the celebration for Drizzt, and contains:
* 3 figures: Drizzt Do'Urden (in new pose), Wulfgar, and Icingdeath the Gargantuan White Dragon -- in scale with other Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures Game collectable figures (prepainted, fully assembled, durable plastic)."

Holy Crap!
I read that damn book TWENTY YEARS AGO.
It is fitting that today I read "Ancient PCs: Playing Elders in D&D" in Dragon 354...

I'm not a big fan of the Drizzt phenomenon! I've always thought his enemies were actually more interesting...wait, I'm threadjacking!!

Scarab Sages

I actuallu could give a crap about the whole drizzt aspect of it, its the dragon that I want. However, I do like the idea behind it. Maybe when they do a green dragon they can make it Cyn Bloodbane and do some of the Dragonlance characters with it.

Then when they do the Colossal Dracolich they can make it Dragotha.....

I like the concept too except for one big problem - the gargantuan minis are already way over priced, IMO (so are some of the smaller ones). The Drizzt mini is outrageous and I could care less about the guy. Take two (or maybe even three) overpriced minis and package them together, what do you have? Something no self-respecting working person can afford and still put shoes on the baby's feet and food in the belly! It makes me nervous to see such marketing. I really love the dragons, but will I be able to afford it?

A Hex dragon would be cool. So would a Brass or Bronze. I've always liked them.

Green Dragon.

I second (or third) the idea of a green dragon. However, I wouldn't mind a Gargantuan deep or fang dragon. I'd also like to see a Gargantuan red dragon, considering how freakin' expensive the Colossal one is.

I would also throw a vote in for a gargantuan red dragon.

I'd personally like to see the Icons expanded beyond dragons. The tarrasque would be awesome, and a big Kraken would be wicked.

Black dragon mini: Awesome
Red dragon mini: Zombie jesus! Awesome!
Blue Dragon mini: Crap.

I'm sick of dragons! Give me a Titan!

I agree wholeheartedly. I manage to pick these minis up on eBay at a substantial discount, but it requires some serious time watching auctions, and typically, the critter I pick up on the 1st of Feb doesn't arrive in my mailbox until the 1st of March. I end up waiting a long time, is my point; makes me wonder, if I can wait six months to a year for the price to go down, or to catch an off auction at the right and fortunate moment, why do I need the thing at all? Nonetheless, I still find myself trawling eBay and Amazon...You might argue that the prices are so steep because it's a niche market, and they simply can't sell enough of them to drive the price down, but I really think it comes down to one simple fact: we the consumer are willing to pay $75+ for a plastic toy dragon...

Liberty's Edge

WOW! I just took a look at spawn.com and the previews of McFarlane's Dragons series six...it's called a 'fossil dragon" but it looks just like a dracolich to me...if a dracolich wore greaves. Anyway, these dragons go for around $12-15 at my comic book store, and $9-10 on Amazon...and the detail is way more, well, detailed, than the D&D Icons...and the McFarlane Dragons are pretty much the right size for D&D minis...so I think my 'niche market price gouge' argument has been burst...so why is the Colossal Red on 'sale' for $75?...I could buy the entire six-figures set of a McFarlane series for the same price including shipping/gas to drive to the store...

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

This is just my humble opinion here (as a single guy w/o "chick or child" and all that) but the D&D Icons are way bigger than Mr. McFarlane's dragons, sure they are expensive, the Red especially, but the Black Dragon was fairly affordable (no more than a new sourcebook at $29.99) the Blue Dragon (same 'size' as the Black) was $10 more and I'm not sure why. Anyway... the prices are what they are. "We" can either accept it, and buy the items we would like to have, or not buy them and wait, trawling about eBay and Amazon looking for a bargain. Of course I still saved 33% off of each "mini" when I bought them at a local bookstore chain that I happen to work at... :-) So I could be biased or jaded... your pick.
