Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

I hope it's okay if I put this here, Mr. PostMonster, even though the campaign itself is run off-Paizo. Just seem more appropriate than continuing on in the D&D general discussion forum.

This is the place for commentary about the Northwind Sun game I'm running over on Rondak's Portal (.com). It's on pause at the moment as we handle a player/character swap. I hope it will be running again soon!

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

No problem, Saern. But maybe this is the perfect time to move the campaign to paizo.com? :-)

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Well, Grimcleaver's seems to be doing just fine. And we haven't really had to utilize the die rollers yet. And the players have generally agreed to just have me handle the rolls as DM, so I guess we don't need it. What say the players? To Paizo, or not to Paizo?

EDIT- Aubrey has expressed interest in joining up, and for his sake and Fatespinner's (who is still having trouble with accessing Rondak's away from home, right?) I think I'll just move the whole thing over here.

So, new question. Do we want separate avatars like in Grimcleaver's, or no? Oh, and would someone be so kind as to post a link to DM tools with the character sheets?

X-Posted from the 'Calling Aubrey the Malformed' thread:

I'm very happy that you've decided to move it to Paizo. My access (and thus my posting) will be much more frequent now. However, I believe we should just do our posting under our 'main' account names instead of creating additional 'character accounts' like we did over on Grim's game thread. 2 accounts is enough for me, thanks.

And yes, Saern, I am still unable to access the Rondak's Portal site away from home and with the craziness that's been happening at my house lately..... yeah. It's good that you've moved it. :D

Saern, could you let me know where to post my completed character once I complete him? By the way, I'm going for a warlock if that is OK with you - a troubled, angry soul with more chips on his shoulder than a saw mill. Can't decide on race yet, but I'm getting there.

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Lilith's excellent site, DM tools, has a page on the world project (dmtools.org/world) where most people have made their characters and posted them. It's in Wikipedia format. However, I've also got word document versions of each saved on my home computer, sent via e-mail: williebiel@epowerc.net. If you would prefer to use that for character creation discussion, feel free; or it can be done here. I check both places often. I'm looking forward to the 'lock! Could fit in with Lythdrae the tiefling well.

As a more general thing, I'm going out of town for the better part of a week (effective later today), and will have less internet access (but I don't expect total cutoff), so moving the game may take a bit longer than expected.

I have a Word version I can send you. I'll convert it to the DM Tools when I get he chance in a few days, for the delectation of my fellow players.

Vraasht Half-Elven is available on DM Tools (sorry, I don't know how to do a link on this website, but I have done an internal link on the DM Tools website from the party "summary" page on there - click on the link from Vatnisse's last post on the previous thread dedicated to this campaign).

I just posted the exchanges from Rondak's Portal on a new Nothwind Sun play-by-post thread. The initial post doesn't show yet, but it is available on my "recent posts" file - I'm sure it will be on the thread soon.

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Well, I tried posting here a few hours ago, but it never showed up. In summary:

Wow, Vattnisse! Awesome! You moved the campaign for me. Thanks a bunch.

I like the character, Aubrey. It's nothing big, but I feel compelled to point out that the DM Tools version has an error (the masterwork bonus has been applied to damage on the rapier, rather than attack), but the one that really matters (the word document) is just fine. I'll reply to your e-mails asap with thouhgts about campaign integration. Of course, still being away from home, my asap isn't what it usually is. =/

Ha ha! Close but no cigar, Saern. You noted the deliberate error in the DM Tools version, but not in the Word version (where the saving throws are wrong - I was originally going for a pure warlock).

Ah well, schoolboy error, will correct.

Oh, and Vatnisse - above and beyond the call of duty. A big help for me to know what was going on.

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Ah, it's good to be posting again! Come on, Daeman, I'm eager to see what trouble you plan on getting into. :)

At the same time, I see Ethras has appeared with his own avatar. That is just fine, but no one should feel pressured to make another account if they don't want to. Although I think it's pretty cool when the whole party really does it!

Aererath will simply fade out at this point.

New accounts? That's what that nifty new alias function in our accounts is for - like this!

Female Tiefling Swashbuckler 1

Yep, the aliases are working out nicely. This picture isn't a perfect fit (the hair's too long) but it's a lot closer than my usual, and nifty looking.

Also, glad this thing is up and running again! On Paizo at that!

Hello - this is my avatar, for future reference.

Oh, I hadn't seen the new feature. Awesome! I can even make them for NPCs. Nice.

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Is that a request for some Knowledge rolls by Ethras?

EDIT- Nevermind, he doesn't have the appropriate skills. I'm not seeing the ranger gleaning much from Geography and Nature. :) I'll see if I can't come up with some useful tidbit for you to recall, but I'm running out of time at the moment.

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Well, Ethras was never well versed in demon-lore in his homeland, being more interested in the woods, but it's hard not to pick up some things from a land steeped in so much history of fiendish conflict.

It isn't so much a fact that comes to your mind, but an absence of one. In all the tales you have ever heard about ancient battles with demons, you have never heard of ice demons. Again, however, rangers aren't exactly experts on these subjects.

As far as tactics go, Ethras certainly knows that demons are tricky creatures who love to use magic. They are as likely to play with, torment, and taunt their victims for a time as they are to simply slaughter them on sight. They're also near impossible to track, as they can simply choose to appear anywhere they please. Not that tracking would be easy inside of a blizzard, anyway.

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

Yeah, I know he doesn't have any relevant skills, but I recalled you saying something about the Saernic elves having a long history with battling demons. Ethras is mostly just remembering the old stories and whatnot.

Finally... lost two longer replies at various points to bad networking on my end or just having the post eaten because it took too long. Lythdrae's waiting on actually asking her questions until she knows whether the (assumed) priest is actually going to be awake. For all she knows, Pelor's followers synchronize their activity and sleep with the sun.

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

The priest can spare a few moments before going off to bed.

Ian hasn't posted since we've started here. Neither has Daeman. Hmm.

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Woops! Meant to call him Nedd, not Vraasht. At least is wasn't in speech. :) Will be more careful in the future.

I think the avatar name rather gives the game away, in any case. :-)

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Yes, I realize, but still... :)

What, I have to choose just one? Changeling Bard 2, Expert 3, Master of the Obscure 5

So, did Ian's use of his Daylight ability a minute or so prior have any noticeable effect? I wouldn't ask since it's kind of a small thing, but it's vaguely relevant to my next post.

On a completely different note, I'm looking forward to seeing how Daeman gets out of being beaten into paste here.

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

I'm curious how our errant bard gets out of this as well.

As to Ian's magical manifestation, it may well have had some effect on the encounter; taking a course of action based on that would be appropriate if so desired.

Well actually I was just asking if Lythdrae in particular would have noticed that the ball had flared brighter when he talked about bringing an offering of light. I think you answered that question as well, then?

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Yes, the orb got brighter.

Okay, checking with Sexi Golem- as far as the story of your bluff goes, the dwarves think the orcs haven't tasted the "piss" yet, right? This will majorly affect their Sense Motive roll!

Right the orc "leader" is waiting to drink the "piss" in tandem with the dwarf and his "fine brandy" the idea was that the dwarf would not hesitate at the chance to steal fine ale [i]and[i/] get to watch the orc drink the piss right in front of him.

By the way sorry about the all the liberties I took with that long ass post. I was trying to make sure Daemans little adventure wouldn't take long to conclude so the party could move on.

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

No worries- the Diplomacy roll (15) is exactly what was needed to move from unfriendly to indifferent, and with the promise of getting back at the dwarves (and the confidence they could crush your head in one hand if you pulled something on them), they'd probably at least give your plan a shot.

EDIT- Woops! Daeman, what did you do?! :D

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Just now noticed that I didn't post that last bit as "DM Saern." Oops. Ah, it's a minor thing!

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

A question about my craft skill: Fletching is the art of making arrows specifically but would you count Craft(Bowyer) as dealing with both bows AND arrows, or just bows? i.e. would I need both Crafts to make bows and arrows or would you allow one Craft skill to cover both tasks?

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Two for one deal: Your craft covers both.

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

Saern wrote:

Okay, I'll just change the wording from 'Fletching' to 'Bowyer' then. Besides, it helps if I decide to go for Order of the Bow Initiate later on, which I'm not sure if I will or not...

Does the orc have daeman in a grapple? Or is he free to five foot step back?

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Daeman is not grappled; 5 foot step away!

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

If you make a big scene of it, maybe we'll hear it and come stomp some orcs into the mud!

...diplomatically, of course.

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

Oh-ho! I see you HAVE, in fact, made a big scene of it! Saern, any chance my amazing elven hearing picks up on this? I'm not sure how far away our tent is from the incident, so it's entirely your call.

What, I have to choose just one? Changeling Bard 2, Expert 3, Master of the Obscure 5

I've been wondering, as well, whether Ian and Lythdrae might stumble across this incident while on the way to the Feast Hall.

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Within the hall, Ethras, Hrothgar, and "Nedd" have no chance of hearing or seeing this combat. However, Lythdrae and Ian are on high ground looking down into the warren of tents. They may make Spot attempts (-7 for distance) and Listen attempts (only -4; the camp is quieting now and high ground is easier to hear from, so the combat would stand out).

EDIT- Ah, nothing like a little fighting to get things moving!

male too tired, but I'll go for a thumb war Wizard

Sorry guys, I was hoping this wouldn't come to an actual fight but I'm fresh out of (clever?) ideas.

That and my inability to pull off a joke has kinda gotten me pissy...

Still - there's nothing like a quick sing-song to put the fear of god into those orcs. :-P

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Yeah, about dropping that whip... in looking over the Disarm rules, the whip description, the Improved Disarm feat, etc., I can't find any reference stating that you can drop a weapon to avoid a counter disarm. You can drop a weapon to avoid a counter trip, but apparently not a counter disarm. Before I post further, can anyone confirm or dispel this idea? I've always thought you could drop the weapon to avoid the rebuttal.

It's just the description I used. Dropping the whip and having it disarmed accomplishes the same thing.

Male Paizonian 20d5 HD Inside-Outer (If Winney the Pooh ate me, I'd be "a bear ration"!)

Ah, okay. I got confused- I suppose it doesn't make a difference one way or the other, does it? Silly DM! :D

But, you've still got a move action left (disarm attempt was standard and drawing is free with quick draw). So, do you want to do anything with it or leave it be?

I'm good let the dwarves have their fun. Can't do much with it anyway.

Sorry about the delay. Hope things will move faster now.

Unless anyone has anything else planned for their characters, it would probably be a good idea to start writing them as wandering into the hall for the night. It's still just the first day of the campaign! :)
