I just posted in the rules of the table thread; the thread on the messageboard says last post 2mins by me, but the post is not there; what gives?

And when I scroll over my name in the main message list; I can read the beginning but entering the thread it is not there at all; very wierd...

Testing a possible fix for this problem....

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Another test, this time with the new stuff enabled. D'oh!!

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Once more into the breach!

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Another test.

Hello World.

Dark Archive Bella Sara Charter Superscriber

Ah crap. Thanks for revealing that I'm an AI Gary.

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

One more try.

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Testing is fun.

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

More test. More test!

Woot; when you grow up you can work with me as most of what I do all day is test; test; test; suggest a change; enact a change; test, test; repeat; lol; life in a quality department of a high tech companty; sigh, never grow up. (grown up to me means you forgot how to make simple activities fun).

oh; and I haven't seen this issue in a while, so, good job.

well, you might check the skinwalkers thread as it seems that person just had an invisible post that finally showed up; just trying to help; lol, with help like mine....

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Grrr. The problem is still there. I think it's been exacerbated by the fact that the rate of new posts per day has doubled over the last month or so.

Back to the drawing board....

Liberty's Edge

Sometimes, I post on a thread, and my post butts the post on the end of the thread in line. Please don't fix it; I think it's cool. ;)

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

You're only seeing that because you post so often. (Did you know that Google says the 8th most common word on paizo.com is "heathansson"? :-)

lol; thanks for that; I would like to see more of the list; is interesting. Who knew werewolves were so loquacious.

Scarab Sages

Still testing this? Not only am I seeing that posts are there and I can't seem to get to them, but other people seem to be posting replies to posts that I can't see and so now not only am I not seeing the posts, but I'm not seeing the replies either. I'm starting to feel like I'm being excluded...

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Yes, and it's driving me nuts. I think I have an idea what the problem might be, but no clear insight yet into how to fix it.

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

And, again with the testing.

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

OK, now I know exactly where the problem is occurring. That is the first step on the path to fixing it.

The second step is SMASHING IT WITH A HAMMER!

...right?

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Yes. Precisely. That's why my iChat status all day has been "Smashy smashy!"

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Smashy smashy!!

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Pokey pokey!

The messageboard post snapshot gets broadcast and received, but an exception gets thrown while inserting the post into the thread's cache. The exception happens when the database context is firing a deferred fault for the join table between posts and threads. Adding a delegate for databaseContextWillFireArrayFaultForGlobalID shows that the fetch specification, source global ID and relationship look OK to me. Hmmm.

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Ohhhh.... I see it now! I think.

The post snapshot isn't getting recorded by the change subscriber because we don't already have a snapshot for the post. So when the array fault gets fired there's no source object.

Hmmm. Now what do about that....

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Let's see what happens if we just ignore an updated snapshot because it didn't get recorded....

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Test!

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Test again!

This thread is hilarious. I find myself checking it on a semi-regular basis thinking to myself "Go, Code Monkey, go!"

I hope our interjections aren't screwing up your tests.

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Naw, they help actually.

Here's a handy hint. When you're working with an in-place change notification network and you notice a method called "shapshotsForUpdateGroupedByEntity", don't fix the typo because that changes the serialVersionUID for the class and therefore messages coming from all the other machines will get dumped instead of processed because the serialVersionUID doesn't match.

I think that's why this method has retained its name over the years. Nobody wants to roll their entire network of instances just to fix it!

It's amazing how much grief one lousy typo can cause.

If you're referring to this:

it wasn't eaten.... just another victim of this bug I'm attempting to squash.

If at first you don't succeed, try.... a completely different approach.
