The Prince of Redhand kudos

My campaign just got through The Prince of Redhand, and I wanted to compliment Mr. Pett on the adventure. Before reading (and, finally! running) the adventure, I didn't have any real idea of how to do a primarily social adventure. Thank you!

Heh. My players are in the middle of the Prince of Redhand and are having a difficult time dealing with things like Hobgoblin guardsmen and bugbear gatekeepers. I'm loving every minute of it as this group has always been a 'kill first and don't bother with questions' kind of group. SPOILERS!

They haven't had their first encounter with the Blessed Angels yet but have managed to kill the Aspect and True Rezzed Rhorsk. I ruled that he was nearly powerless now though having lost his connection to main god and now the Ghoul one (no longer being a ghoul). I have him as a 9th level Adept so he still has a little spellcasting though.

Thanks you two, I have really fond memories of writing Redhand as it was quite a tricky asignment which I loved to do, it makes me smile to think that Zeech and his machionations are still causing players headaches:) Hopefully you'll enjoy the Serpents of Scuttlecove in the next edition of Dungeon, a little more combat, a little more twisted>)

I'm looking forward to reading it, but because of the time my group takes, it'll be a while before I can run it.

hey richard, any pointers on how to handle this adventure for a bunch of hack n slashers they just started tonight and it went pretty well but im not sure how they'll handle such a urban/ role-playing adventure

Hmm, I'll try to post again - if a similar post appears my apologies, my computer is down to 1 hit point:)
I'd say that you have a few options, but playing an against the odds adventure can be good fun for players too - I had in mind Vault of the Drow when I wrote Redhand as there is absolutely no way anyone could attack the city and that was part of the amazing thing about that adventure when it came out as up until that point dungeons were just about going in and killing everything.
I'd go with either:
Shorten the feast (which would be a shame)
Lengthen the feast and have plenty of combat for those who like it by having Zeech bring on a succession of mighty beasts from his menagerie and challening the PCs
Have an NPC beg the PCs to come along to observe but have that person have a relative kidnapped and if anything goes wrong at the feast he or she will be executed (and obviously the NPC offers a suitable reward at the end).
Have Lashonna play a larger part as a peacemaker.
The group I have love a little of both in adventures, and you may find someone who is keen on getting more involved in interaction - the trick I tried to pull with the feast was to have plenty going on, and plenty of chance for the dice rolling fraternity but maintaining a (relatively!) peaceful set up.
Plus of course Kings is a fantastic hack fest to end all hack fests and the change of pace is nice. Failing everything else you could have a party of tough adventurers try the very thing the PCs may do - attack Zeech, and live to regret it very quickly...perhaps this party are tougher than the PCs?
Hope this helps:)
