I'm up to 3 out of 4 hit points, up from half dead. Wow it's amazing what a hit point means when your a wimpy little sorcerer. Heh.
As for the "out of bounds" thing, I'd hate to think that characters aren't able to do stuff that's in character for them. Personally I wouldn't even mind PK if it was done tastefully and for reasons that make sense in character. I guess I've just never been a fan of the "you just can't do it" school. Nonetheless, so long as I know where the lines are drawn I'm pretty agreeable.

I know, its been a loooong time since I played a first level wizard (or sorcerer) - hence the Toughness feat, I was a bit worried about being downed in one hit in the first (and every) fight. Figured it kind of made sense for a Necromancer too (IIRC they had a high Con score as a requisite in 2nd edition).
I think that character v character conflict can be a very exciting part of the game. But there's a fine line, in almost all cases I find character v character COMBAT (particularly if killing is the intention) to be farily distateful. It usually ruins the game for me a little, unless there is a VERY good in character reason for it, and everyone is mature and respectful about it.

Perhaps I should clarify; I'm not against minor conflict between characters. I'm not even against major conflicts between characters I merely don't want to have to replace characters killed by other characters. It can really slow down the game. I also am fine with being in character. There are just certain things I would prefer not to have in my game.

Decipher Script I don't think that I will allow you to use untrained in the future. I am going to rule that Knowledge checks (except for arcana and the planes) can be used untrained at a -2 penalty becuas even a common person might pick up stray bits of pertinent information.

More world information: The Xrath Empire: The Xrath Empire Inhabits the Northern part of the main continent. They are an ancient and powerful empire about which little is known. No one has ever gone into their lands and come out alive again. Wild tails about massive armies and powerful spellcasters are often heard when discussing the Xrath. They never involve themselves in the affairs of the rest of their world and engage in no trade with other nations.

I think that certainly makes sense. With Decipher Script I agree also, though I would say that in that case there should be a deliniation between reading small worn print in a language that's known (which seems closer to a search check and which most people should be able to do) and trying to peice together an unknown language from familiar elements from other languages--which yeah, you'd need the skill to be able to do or you just wouldn't have a prayer.

WTF!? We've been smurfed!
Seriously, why have some of the avatars changed to smurfs and why (and who?) has someone changed what our posts say. I don't write like that and nor do I pepper my speech with phrases like "hoist the maisail!". A shiny copper to whoever can answer this particular question.

Re stuff from other sources ... I was considering taking a flaw from Dragon magazine where you give up your familiar ... or a feat where you kill your familiar and raise it as an undead abomination. But I think Anarath has grown strangely attached to his bird, so I don't think I'll retcon that now.
Are you likely to allow feats or spells from Dragon magazine to be taken at level up time?

By the way, here is the character portrait for Corvin, if anyone is interested.

hmmm, the link doesn't seem to work for me ... takes me to a blank page.
EDIT: oops, my bad - it works now.
Hey, that's awesome Shiny. Very cool. Man, I ain't messing with Corvin no more!
You've inspired me. I did a quick sketch for Anarath when I ws designing the character, I might need to re-visit it and get it posted up now....

Gents, I am going to be away over Easter, and will have limited (if any) internet access during the next four days or so. Just letting you know.
If things progress and my not posting is holding up the action, Arctaris can NPC me for a while.
Yeah, I'm going to be gone Sunday through Friday, so if Corvin could be an NPC for those days, that would be awesome.

Thanks Mothman.
Sounds like we won't have many people around for a little while, I myself will be away from regular internet access for most of next week. Lets just put the game on hold from Saturday night (this week) to Saturday night (next week). How does that sound?

The game is now officially back online.
A quick recap: After fighting off the kobolds that ambushed you in the night you continued on in your search for Segwin, the architect of Grimmbold Manor so as to get the floor plans for the manor. You have come to a small clearing filled with grave stones and behind the waterfall at one end of the clearing you have discovered a place where some creature obviously lives.

ack, now I'm confused
So, if its the game situation thats confusing you, here's the layout as I see it.
Corvin's standing in the stream next to the waterfall, kicking at kobold remains in the water and screaming out challenges to who ever might be in the cave ... which Greis and Anarath have just gone into, found it empty, and are presently searching it. Dohrlok and Gawlak are standing on the bank nearby, prepared for trouble...

I was joking about the character being confused. I actually knew what was going on.
If you can't remember, then your CHARACTER can't remember. This is ADVANCED, Mark.
