I leafed through some past issues of Dungeon and...it's really hard to consider the illustrations at their own anymore, without thinking "Ooh, that's Kahoolin" or "Oh, Saern is in this adventure"...

Yeah, same here. :)

Liberty's Edge

You ever look at some art and say, "dang! I can't wait 'til that's up for avatar service?"

On a regular basis.

lol

Heh, that reminds me, I've been meaning to change my avatar so it's not so... female. I originally picked it because it looks kind of like me, so the next best thing would be this guy.

He doesn't look quite as heroic as I do in real life but you gotta take what you can get ;)

Do you normally look that pissed off? j/k

Only on mondays.

Which is why changing avatars oughta be illegal! Just when you've come to totally associate someone with their pic, they go and morph on ya and you have to waste precious seconds ever after actually reading the poster's username! j/k ;)

Fake Healer say avatar since the day I got on these boards, Same avatar until they drag my corpse off the keyboard. I would change it if I was some type of shapechanging puppy or a cow-centaur-spider-devily something though.

Does anyone else get a little ticked off when you see someone else using 'your' avatar?

Not angry but maybes as irked as say: when you try to put a teaspoon of sugar in your coffee cup and accidentally drop a few grains on the worktop -and you go 'tut' or maybes do a slight frown.

Actually I don't care; there was some dude who took the wolf and started talking all this mess about how it was his, though. I was like, "people see the wolf, they think Heathansson, baby. I'm bein' nice and lettin' you use it."

I've noticed that NOBODY messes wit' Ultradan's diapered mesomorphic Wil Wheaton. Nobody messes wit' fakey's either, but that's cos he wears a skirt.

Hmmmmm…

So when you see the bald, small chinned be-horned and androgynous avatar with the grey-alien-shaped-head do you think ‘that's R-type’ then?

Scarab Sages

On an aside, has anyone else had problems editing their posting lately? I have to keep deleting the post, then re-submitting it over if I want to change anything. Weird.

Anyway, as I said before, only one other person regularly uses the same avatar as me, and you can't get mad at someone who uses the word "Drunken" in their username.

Like Fakey, however, I refuse to change my avatar. Unless paizo allows me to use a zombified artistic rendering of my own face.

Ayyup.

I can tell the Aber vs. the Drunk pretty easy, cause the Aber is a morning zombie, and the Drunk is a nightowl (zombie).

Yes the edit thing is taking an hour to update after I edit.

And where it says 'reply' the bottom half of the word is cut off.

It bothers me more when someone else changes their avatar after I've grown accustomed to it or if someone else is posting using the same avatar I associate very strongly with a particular poster. Of course, it doesn't hurt than not many other posts use this avatar.

I've thought about changing mine as there are a lot more to choose from now. Wish we could upload our own. :)

For some reason, the first thing that pops into my head when I hear "R-Type" is, sadly, not the great shoot-em-up computer game of my youth, but rather the terrible Swedish techno band from the mid-1990s. Sorry about that.

:( That's so wrong.

Are we talking 2Unlimited bad or worse, say like Aqua level of badness?

Grand Lodge

Oh, they were nowhere near as, um, good as 2Unlimited... It was some scrawny, long-haired dude with a nasal, metallic voice plus some women who probably were too ridiculously skanky to be in Vengaboys or any other of those Ibiza bands. Or, put differently: R-Type was so good that there are no videos of them on YouTube! Yeah, I checked. Man, the bad old days... :(

You recall a techno act called Bomb the Bass? -They had music in a 'top-to-bottom' scrolling blaster called Xenon I think (in the 90's) and may have been the first real pop music act to do so. Now it's normal to have real music in games...

God I feel old.

Grand Lodge

That's "progress" for you... I vaguely recall Bomb The Bass; I haven't been to a rave for about 12 years, but I remember that video (not the music, though...).

That's cuz that metallic nasal dude and skank band is called E-Type, like the car! I was totally into them for a short time. Watch the "(I got) Life" vid...that chick is AWESOME!

Really the one about soccer/football "Campione"(spelling?) was a pretty cool song.

That would explain it... My bad.

And the unfairness of associating our message board buddy R-Type with a Swedish techno band that doesn't even share her name is truly cosmic. Once again, my apologies.

Did they do that song "Bug Powder Dust?" I liked those guys.

2 Unlimited... I liked them too, to my eternal shame. I had to hide it under a layer of irony and Nirvana. Aqua sure did suck though.

See, this is why I changed my avatar. I thought R-Type was a guy, because s/he said s/he carried a man-bag in the "Do you look like your avatar" thread.

Though I suppose there's nothing stopping a girl from using a man-bag. But I would presume they would just call it a "bag."

To be somewhat fair, 2Unlimited's "Twillight Zone" is probably the best Eurodance track out there. "No Limits" and the stuff after that, on the other hand - not so good. Aqua, like Manowar, remains one of those bands I could never quite figure out - are they revoltingly cynical, or merely mind-blowingly stupid? Not much of a choice, but...

Yeah, but while 3G was correct when he pointed out that your avatar was actually a female asian ghost, I don't think too many people really associated that with you. Your avatar was just "kahoolin".

Now you've changed, and everything's confusing...

Guess I just don't like change.

At least I picked one only 4 other people were using, so hopefully it'll catch on if I continue loitering about as much as usual...

Luckily, there's only one other person using mine & I haven't seen him/her on the boards anywhere I've been posting. (I'm hoping mine's a girl, I'm pretty sure it has boobs but maybe I just need to put my glasses on)

I've just realized that I'm not thiking of 2Unlimited, it was N-Trance I liked. Or more accurately the singer from N-Trance (hey, I was a teenage boy back then).

I only ever heard "No Limit" and later, so I'm not familiar with this supposed good 2Unlimited material that you mention. Thus if it please the court, I must in all honesty agree that they sucked.

Isn't Man-O-War one of those wierd metal bands with demon outfits like Gwar and those guys who won Eurovision last year?

Grand Lodge

kahoolin wrote:

Weird metal band - yes. Demon outfits - no.

They are essentially a bunch of huuuuuge loincloth-dressed bodybuilders who sing about viking stuff, and about "true metal", whatever that might be. Having said that, they are actually rather talented and have some good songs, but any band that has a mainstay track callled "All men play on 10" are inherently ridiculous.

As for 2Unlimited's 1992 megahit Twillight zone... Hmmmm... it hasn't held up particularly well. I seem to remember that the original video was pretty cool, but I can't find it anywhere. And, yes, they did suck. But they were better than this bunch. Gotta love those lyrics... What would we do without YouTube?

That´s true. I like their music, but the lyrics are for the most time crap. Pubertal superhero/sexual fantasies, for the most part. Luckily, I can just ignore the lyrics - that´s one positive thing if you are not a native speaker. They are the loudest band on the planet, however.

Well, I noticed Krypter had changed her/his avatar and went "Yay!" Otherwise I haven't seen this one in use here...

Uuh, flashbacks from my eurodance period in early 90's...2Unlimited was great, though they didn't make anything listenable after No Limits. KLF, Edelweiss, Felix, Dr Alban...Wo! Ist! Pippi! Oh dear, floodgates are open, now I have that stuff playing in my head.

E-Type came after I was out of that scene, as did Aqua (whose revolting cynicism did appeal to me however).

And I have never been able to listen to Manowar without giggling...

I know other people have my avatar(s), but I never see posts from these people. So I feel as if I am the only one.

Remember when the KLF did that controversial art piece? They made a film of them slowly feeding banknotes into a furnace and ended up incinerating a million pounds! Anyone remember the rock/rave combo Utah Saints? I loved them. :)
