I largely agree. At the same time, though, there's a thing called "artifice" and another thing called "irony" which, imho, the Pet Shop Boys exemplify a hell of a lot more than "authenticity."
And, to me, being "inauthentic" is meaningless when you're being ironic.
To me, I'm much more offended by the parade of so-called pop stars that can barely sing, don't play an instrument, and don't even write their own songs. As far as I'm concerned, if you're creating your own music from start to finish, and you have creative control over your output, you're authentic.
Example: Chromeo. Chromeo's music is an absolute throwback to the glory days of disco, house, and electro funk of the early 80s. It's unabashedly slick, purposely catchy, and fashion-conscious. It's often cheeky, but it's never ironic; these guys LOVE this kind of music and want to make some for you. They GENUINELY want you to shake your ass.
In their own way, Dave 1 and P Thugg are authentic as F%!$, because they don't care what anyone thinks, they just want to make music they love.
And, to me, being "inauthentic" is meaningless when you're being ironic.

The only music that has ever offended me was The Eagles.
I tried listening to Desperado one night, when I was quite high. I figured, weed makes everything sound better, so let's try The Eagles, because I've always disliked them.
Anyway, I listened to the first side and the only thing I felt was nausea. I didn't turn the record over and I felt better.
I haven't listened to The Eagles since.

I actually don't have a definition for authenticity. In the post you responded to, I should have put "authenticity" in italics, the same way I did for "real deal."
Otoh, I still think those youtube comments were funny.

Ah, Euro-pop. Duran Duran? Adam Ant? Depeche Mode? Whacky stuff.
Interestingly, they're all British.
Over here those bands are not seen as euro-pop: Euro-pop comes from Sweden, mostly, and includes ace of base, 2unlimited and Tatu.
I think that, in the UK, one of the features of Europop is that it is in English but you can tell that the writers/performers don't have English as a first language.
They've chosen English to try and sell across Europe and the world, rather than performing in their native tongue.
I think there also needs to be a bit of eurovision style in their sound as well.
Of course, some bands choose English even thought they don't seem to be europop due to their musical style.Fireside, who were great but are almost ungoogleable, and The Cardigans were both non-europop but sang in English.
Bis even spoofed it here.
We Yanks, of course, are less inclined to distinguish between Britishiznoids and the rest of the European brethren.

I saw them live at a festival on a farm.
They played in a cattle shed which ruined any band with layers of sound and a load of meatheads were hurting people (they were the heaviest band at the festival). Bit of a heartbreaker that.
Similarly intense and instrumental are 65daysofstatic
They're amazing live.
I saw them at dot-to-dot once and they were playing late and inside a dark, cavernous room so they produce a brooding, intense, magnificent experience.
Two years later I saw them on midday in the sunshine at truck festival and they were joyous, playful and magnificent.
