The Electric Prunes - Holy Are You
I recall reading that the Prunes were pretty pissed off that they weren't allowed to play on their own records.
On the one hand, that's fair enough - I would be too, and if you listen to the live recordings from around the same time, they were fairly capable.
On the other hand, this sounds absolutely flippin' fantastic. David Axelrod knew exactly what he was about, and needed to be absolutely sure that those he was paying could deliver what he was after.

To be fair, the first uses of the term "punk rock" by musicians and critics were in reference to Ed Sanders (1970), The Guess Who (1971), and ? And The Mysterians (also 1971).

Welcome to the Internet from the Bo Burnham INSIDE special on Netflix. The show has a half dozen or more songs that are PEAK Bo but since he released this one on his own channel for free I figured I'd link it and offer a glowing recommendation as I did in the TV subforum.

Best comment on video: "They call it a "portable orchestra" but I think the model number '305' is really that thing's weight in lbs."

Speaking of "Korobeiniki," my favorite cover version, courtesy of Ozma. And speaking of "Miserlou," my favorite cover version, courtesy of Agent Orange (all apologies to Dick Dale).
Also, was that a riff on Iron Butterfly's "My Mirage" I heard around 3:00?

Those are nice! I was a sophomore in high school and a senior when those came out. We had the first high school radio station in Arkansas. I was a DJ there my junior and senior years. I played the hell outta these records.
