Issue 144 Diplomacy--Arcanaloth overpowered?

I enjoyed reading the adventure but I was surprised to see Sharlocke with 363 hp. The sample Arcanaloth in the MMII has 54--he has 6 additional class levels but this seems overly generous to the monster. Cheers.

Well, Monster Manual 2 was 3.0, remember. There was a significant amount of conversion of the arcanaloth in "Diplomacy" in addition to the class levels. And, let's face it, 3.0 fiends were crazy-underpowered for their CR. For a CR 22 creature, more than 300 hit points seems perfectly fine to me.

The Monster Manual 2 arcanaloth is shamefully underpowered. As he appears in that book, he's MAYBE a CR 7 monster. Maybe. Certainly not appropriate for a monster who, in previous editions of the game, was one of the most powerful of the yugoloths.

SO: In Diplomacy, we updated the 3.0 Monster Manual II version to something that's more honest about being a CR 17 creature (and then put some class levels on him, of course). We unfortunately didn't have room to print the base updated stats for the arcanaloth in this issue, but I'm pretty sure we'll get a chance to do so in a few issues...
