I am a real Babylon 5 junky, and I was wondering if anyone out there owns/plays either of the bab5 games from mongoose publishing.
I owned the original Babylon Project RPG and was impressed with everything, but the combat system left massive amounts to be desired.
I also owned the old Babylon 5 Wars game by AoG. It started out pretty good, and then they published errata, changes and more that eventually made it impossible to agree what the rules were, let alone play.
So I guess what I am asking for is eitheer a straight up rating on the games, and if possible a comparrison to the "Old Ones".

As one of the principles in AOG, and one of the guys who wrote and edited most of the B5W rulebooks, I must take exception to your description :-)

Take exception all you want, but acception might be a better term.
I think at the tim AoG was a start up, or at least had less than the experience of other veterans and it had a rough launch. I won't discredit the game, still own it, but errata was published in fits and starts, and there were some real points of contention.
Then again, I am asking about Mongoose's stuff to see if I want to dust off Babylon 5 Wars or not, so don't be too heartbroken

Agreed. When we first stated, we hadn't the slightest friggin' clue what we were doing, other than we were all Starfleet Battles and Battletech players, and wanted to do a cool B5 starship combat game. The second edition was a masterwork, but you're right,t he constant addition of races and silly weapons and rules just convoluted things. Fleet Action was equally slick, in a different way, and (had we done it) FAII would have been simply kick-ass.
However, if you're looking to get minis, the vast majority of the sculpts and molds being used today to make Mongoose B5 minis are exactly the same ones we used at AOG, so you're in good hands either way!

I disctinctly remember enoying the game, but finding it too complicated for big games, but still lacking it good detail.
I also remember trying to figure out which was more current, the errata from the email newsletter or the errrata from the site... ho hum
Either way, it still isn't a review of the Mongoose stuff
