Complete Scoundrel feats

3.5/d20/OGL

Just noticed this description for the Daring Warrior feat in Complete Scoundrel: "Fighter and swashbuckler levels stack for grace, dodge bonus, and feats." Will someone PLEASE tell me that, by taking this feat, you don't suddenly receive a bonus feat for every 2 swashbuckler levels? Ixnay on the feats that give free feats!

Group fake out.
Next they need the heathen son regional feat.

Prerequisites: Firearms proficiency; must have lived in at least 3 regions previously. Benefit: Once per day as a full-round action, you may post an outrageously off-topic reply. All readers must save vs. Reflex (DC 10 + half your Expert level + your Cha modifier) or snort coffee out their noses. This deals 1 point of damage and dazes them for 1 round. Creatures that do not drink coffee (such as constructs) are immune to this effect.

Liberty's Edge

Back on topic, (that's an extreme character flaw I'm working on)
I don't know from the brief description how it all works. The feats and tricks look snazzy, though.

Flaw? On the contrary...

So, I take it no one's got this one yet. Hopefully everybody will agree with me, however, that no one feat should give you 2+ feats as bonuses. As a player, I intentionally ditched my Vow of Poverty because all those bonus feats were at first absurd, and then annoying. Likewise, as DM I wouldn't allow a player to create a "Domain Power" feat (it, um, gives you a domain power, but none of the spells, etc.) on the grounds that the said player wanted to use it for the War domain ("so I get Weapon Proficiency AND Weapon Focus!"). This Daring Warrior feat seems like another such case, unless the description is very poorly-worded (I hope).

Liberty's Edge

Do you have it allready? I hannae seen it about yet.

Nope; just reading the WotC site excerpts. I'm a sucker for multi-class-enhancing feats, though (I've got like two Devoted Performer characters).

Liberty's Edge

Yeh. I wanna get this book.

Damn those constructs

Cool, I'm a construct! ^ ^

As for the feat, that can't be right. Unless they're wanting every PC from now on to turn into a feat hoarding fighter abomination...

Hi. I don't have the book and haven't been tempted by it (or Complete Mage) although the skill trick concept sounds interesting. See http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20070105a and click the correct link.

Regarding the original post, the Daring Warrior feat sounds too powerful but would be slightly balanced better by benefiting only one class, i.e., either Fighter or Swashbuckler.

E.g., a Fighter 4 / Swashbuckler 1 takes another level of Swashbuckler; becoming character level 6, he takes this feat, choosing to benefit the Fighter class, and automatically gains one more Fighter bonus feat. As he gains more Swashbuckler levels, the character can look forward to an additional Fighter feat every couple of levels.

If he chose Swashbuckler to benefit from the feat, he would immediately gain the +1 Dodge bonus (a level 5 Swashbuckler class feature) and seemingly a less powerful choice than creating a future feat-generator.

For what its worth, finally got a chance to look at this book today at the book store . . . no, you don't get your bonus fighter feats for taking this feat, but whenever a feat says that you have to have X number of fighter levels to take a feat, then your classes stack.

Dude, that makes total sense. Thanks! WotC just went up a notch in my estimation; I may need to get that book now.

I'm waiting for my preordered copy from Paizo. But I just saw it yesterday at Barnes and Noble. It made me sad to see it on the shelf at the store and not the shelf in my living room. Oh well, I like supporting Paizo.

Your avatar name is highly applicable, I see. Barnes & Noble is doing fine, with or without us. We Paizoans need to support Paizo as much as possible. (You know, I pretty much keep up my subscription to Dragon in order to lend funds to Paizo so they can keep publishing Dungeon at the quality it has.)
