Feat assistance for Favored Soul

Scarab Sages

Is there a feat that would give a favored soul access to another spell list or even spells from a domain? Might there be a prestige class that may grant this ability instead?

Any help is appreciated.

Any PrC that grants access to a bonus domain (Contemplative, Divine Oracle, etc) will add those spells to the Favored Soul's list. However, the Favored Soul still has to take those as spells known. They are not automatically known, and they do not expand the number of spells the FS can know. They simply add to the pool of spells available for the FS to take as he levels.

Have you considered simply taking a level as a cleric?

No. Taking a level as a cleric wouldn't add to the spell list of the Favored Soul any more than taking a level as sorcerer would. And it would delay the progress of the Favored Soul class.

Thanks CH. Any other prestige classes that you can think of off the top of your head that do this as well? Just trying to come up with a list of options for one of my players.

As someone who currently has a 15th level favored soul of Waukeen in a Realms' based Age of Worms campaign, I find that I have an overabundance of spells from which to choose. There are the spells from the PHB, PHB 2, Spell Compendium, and the various Realms source books. But I can know only six (6) first level spells, six (6) second level spells, six (6) third level spells and so on. Due to my enhanced Charisma score of 22, I have bonus daily spell slots with which to cast my small selection of spells many times over. I do not feel that my character is stunted by a limited assortment of spells; as for the lack of domain spells, so what? My innate energy resistances are always in force and soon I will have a permanent set of wings.

Do you find that this makes up for the Favoured Souls lack of spell choices as well as other abilities that clerics normally have?

I mean I guess it could be a balanced class but it certianly looks underpowered compared to a cleric. None of my players will go near any of the alterante divine casters as cleric seems better then any of the other alternitives. Certianly Shukenga was pretty underwhelming.

The player would like to focus on very particular spells more than she feels the cleric list is allowing her to. I just wanted to give her a few more options. I don't want to debate whether or not the cleric spell list is sufficient -- I just want to know if there are any other options that I can offer her.

The idea of Mortika is not that bad...

Well, one level of cleric is a loss of one level progression as a favored soul...

However, if the god you choose (for its flavour) gives access to nice domains (one-shot ones, like knowledge, luck or celerity...), you will have new advantages :

- better armor class (IIRC, the FS has access only to light & medium armors),
- a small boost to fortitude & will saves,
- more 0 and 1st level spells : the FS may choose one effect spells that he doesn't know as a FV (resistance as a 0 / detect evil as a 1st...), and you only need a wisdom 11 (12 is better),
- 2 domains powers,
- turn undead : as the FS has a good charisma, then take a feat that give you the possibility to convert one use of turn undead (with a charisma 16, this gives you 6 conversions).

good luck !

Yes, it does all those things. What the cleric level does not do, however, is what the OP needs it to, which is cast domain spells. He could cast one first level domain spell once per day. He could never cast the higher level spells or use his FS spell slots to cast the domain spells.

Dark Archive

In Dragon #311 there was an article about bloodline feats for sorcerers. The idea was that you didn't have to accept the general notion that all sorcerers have magic because they're descended from dragons, and instead your sorcerer could be descended from demons or angels or various elemental types. So this bloodline feat (which you could take only one of) gave you a new spell at every spell level, in much the same way that cleric domains do. Since there's already a precedent of a feat granting spells in this way, I don't see why you couldn't let a character use a feat to gain one of his or her deity's domains and the accompanying spells and granted abilities. I believe the information regarding those sorcerer bloodline feats was also printed in the Dragon Compendium.
