Suggestion for the Flip-Maps – please read

I my opinion, the Flip-Map series from Steelsqwire is the best thing for the DM since the invention of the d20. I suppose people from Pazio or Steelsqwire won’t be reading this thread but in any case I think something very simple could be done to improve what is already a very good product:

Add a 2x2 squares grid as an overlay to the grid already present. You could for example make the lines of the 2x2 squares grid slightly thicker.

The scale most commonly used on the Flip-Map is 1 square = 5ft. However, most plans in dungeons are drawn with a 1 square = 10ft scale in mind. Hence, having the 2x2 grid already drawn on the Flip-Map would save much time and avoid many errors in the re-transcription of the plan. 1 big square = 10ft, same as the plan. A simple yet elegant solution.

On the contrary, Paizo employees routinely read these boards.

We'll consider this idea next time we put one of these together. Thanks for the input!

Flipmaps kick butt. I own three of them and love them. A slightly thicker 10x10 outline isn't a bad idea.

My suggestion was to take the original and put squares on both sides. Then I could buy 3-4 of them and prep for a whole session at home - 6 or 8 maps should easily cover my encounter needs for a few hours.

Hexes... Not so much.

I like the flip maps in theory and own several of them.

The problem I have is that they keep bowing up from the seams which makes them very difficult to set minis on. We usually have to weight them down with something at several points for it to be usable.

Any suggestions? Or did I just get a bad batch? I did get them all in one order...

Have you tried bending them in the opposite direction of the way they were originally folded? That flattens them out pretty well for us.

I have. I even left them that way for a while (a week or so) but it seems that when they were originally folded, the fold was 1. bigger and 2. springier than I would suspect is usual. None of my friends who have these have experienced the same issue. Or it could be just me...
It's just a bit frustrating to have the nicer resource and instead end up using my battlemat.
Thanks for the suggestion though. Helpfulness is always appreciated.

Liberty's Edge

I don't own a flip map (yet), but I have a suggestion you could try. There is an item available in most decent pet stores called a housetraining pad holder. It is basically a very large clip board, with long clips on 2 or 4 of the sides.

If the size is right, problem solved permanently for less than 20$, if not, you can get a cheap piece of hard board from the local home warehouse, and tear the clips off a couple of 99 cent k-wal-mart clip boards and make one just the right size.

For the Paizo overseers, this may be a good new product idea if this is a common problem, in which case I would be more than happy to "test" one for you on a permanent basis as a reward...

I own 3 flip mats, but my suggestion would be to try to find someone willing to sell their tact-tiles. :) My group currently has 24 tiles!

On that off topic note, maybe Paizo could contact the maker of the tact-tiles (BC products?) and help them find a manufacturer? Tact-tiles are IMO one of the top 5 gaming accessories of all time. (Right up there with my Item Cards)
