I havn't seen anyone post anything similar to this situation. My party made it out of the Parrot Island caves ok. The Paladin was hurtin but alive. The Cleric was instrumental in helping the group over come the Hecuva. In the end the group decided to swim their way out of the caves using the elixers of swimming they got off of Vark (he didn't survive the Nixie). That being said the Earth Elemental Gem was never used.
This brings me to the battle with Rowyn. I took the advice of a few of you and enlarged her room to make for a more roomy battle. Of course this means that there was room for the Rogue to make use of the Earth Elemental. Tugger went down quick and Rowyn decided to beat feet (or actually float away as a cloud of gas).
I think I'm going to have her make a last stand with her pirate lackys before completly abandoning the complex. I didn't really get the chance to make use of many of her abilities. I just didn't think she would stand up against the elemental on her own.
Anyways has anybody else had this happen?

It doesn't seem out of line with the expected outcome of the scenario. Gut Tugger is dead and she bailed. She has no reason to believe that if they could summon an elemental this time that they don't have the ability to do so again. It would be perfectly reasonable for her to leave at this point and then you are set very nicely for her return during The Sea Wyvern's Wake adventure.
On the other hand if you would really like to use her again I would highly recommend putting some thought into how she plans on escaping again (and she WOULD have a plan for it after the last encounter as she has no desire to die). The PCs might not allow the same trick twice so I would suggest coming up with something other than turning to gas again.
All in all you need to weigh the benefit of having her be more active in a combat now vs. missing out on some great encounters in Sea Wyvern's Wake and make your choice based on that.

BigDaddyG, bide your time and give it to 'em good in The Sea Wyvern's Wake. A good villain waits for the best moment to exact revenge. Let them forget about her and congratulate themselves on putting the scare into her. By the time you're ready to have her start messing with the PCs, they totally won't be expecting it and the revenge will be that much sweeter.

I had Rowyn confront the party in the training room specifically because of the warnings in this thread. Even with extra room, the PC's had her stomped within two rounds. I actually had to fudge her HP's (gasp!) to let her live long enough to escape via her potion.
Just trying to let DM's who haven't hit this encounter, yet. And, with her reappearing two mags later, it's best to be ready to handle the outcome of this lopsided battle.

I had her face them in a throne room I made before her bedroom (about 30 by 30). I talked to them for awhile about working for me. Then I had gut tugger attack. I also had the BB Zombie in this room. Rowyn stayed back and when Gut Tugger went down she raised him, took one hit and then drank the potion of Gaseous form.
I had the mist drift through the door to her bed room.
The players were sure she was hiding in the bed.
She was long gone.

i kept the encounter as written...seeing as how the party cleric got trounced by ambushing rogue-training-dummys and dropped to exactly -11 in the training room.
that led up to the croc the ranger had wild-empathy'd from the crucible room eating the ragodhessa but good and the zombie going down a bit harder than it would have (what with a cleric of Pelor with i dont know how many greater turnings/day)
they sent in the croc and the dwarven grappling monk first, and rowyn rolled exceptionally poorly on her init.
got grabbed by the monk, and that was pretty much that. had to use an action to pull her potion, that was then flurry-pinned-disarmed from her, and then she was done.
the party subdued gut tugger and brought him and the croc (advanced to 5 hd, and the ranger used pretty much all his action points to wild empathy it to helpful) to the arena to be sold by the dwarf, and took Rowyn (quietly) up to the taxidermist shop to interrogate later.
they also left the changeling rogue/psion and the human warmage in the lair, the changeling in Rowyn's clothes/jewelry/weapons.
once again, they kick in the door and drop the big bad in less than 10 seconds.
le sigh.
