Who the heck.........

Savage Tide Adventure Path

I dropped the city into a campaign I have been running and the characters in my group have had a fair amount of interaction with the council. Currently one of the characters (Swashbuckler) has met and wants to help out Lavinia. Long story short who replaces Keltar Islaran as harbormaster and council member? I could put it off(or make my own decision)but I want to use the story line and this could make things difficult later on.

Keep in mind that I have no inside knowledge to support this, but it is my understanding that the campaign will not be returning to Sasserine at this point so this decision will not be detailed in the campaign. It is mentioned that the PCs could use greater teleport or the like to travel back and purchase things, but there will be no further support in the campaign above and beyond the excellent job that has already been done.

I would guess that you are very safe in moving forward in making this decision yourself.

Out of curiousity, who would you go with and why?

My own party is wondering who will fill the Harbormaster position too. Since the Kellanis are now under the microscope thanks to the PCs actions, I think it's safe to assume that Heldrath isn't getting it. The problem that creates is that there are no other noble families residing in Azure District to inherit the position (unless my memory is shot - don't have my Sasserine map at the moment to verify that).

The most believable solution would be to have the Dawn Council elect one of the up-and-coming noble families of the city to the post. This would, of course, get bogged down in red tape and politics as everyone tries to get the position. The PCs should be enroute to the Isle of Dread with Lavinia before a decision is ever made.

One other option (depending on their backstories) would be to bestow the position to one of the PC's families. The problem with that would be that elevation to noble status would come with the position as well. That rewards one PC with elevated social status over his/her peers, and that could cause some tension (not to mention the bad feelings of certain other noble families...)

Just my two coppers' worth - hope those ideas help a little :)

Thanks for the response!

I guess I have to make my own decision here. The campaign I DMing is my own wacky creation. I am using the Eberonn map but it is divided into 5 nations and my cities are colored push pins in the map. The group is 6 to 9th level and are titled Barons for helping to restore the rightful king of one of the counrties. They are a mission for him when they end up in Sasserine that I have placed in one of the enemy countries. They (the Dawn Council)are looking to seceed from the "Southern Alliance" and ally themselves with the PCs King. I love to story line of the Savage Coast so I am side tracking them into this. Thus they have met the entire Dawn Council and I would need to supply a suitable replacement.

I like the idea of a long drawn out appointment of a new council memebr and may go with that. If pressed it will be someone of my own creation. Reason being none of the Islarans want the harbormaster job, the Kellanis will be exposed in this and will be lucky to keep their noble stats let alone become a council member and the Lorchesters are worried about taking over the lumber industry (although the title may help them).

Any other suggestions?
