Greek gods in D&D

3.5/d20/OGL

After finishing up the AOW campaign, I am thinking about something new for the next setting. Since our group is fond of the Greek gods(aka Zeus, Hades, and company) and I already have the gods and deity book, I am preety sure I'll use them in the new campaign. However, I have some questions about how to introduce them:
1-) Should I create a 'world' for the campaign or use some locations from the mythology (ex: Troy, etc). I think the last option would be weird but...
2-) How would I fit the other races in the game? I have no problems with elves or half elves, (who could be the 'chosen people of Apollo ) or the dwarfs(Hefestos) but what about halflings, gnomes and half orcs?.. Should I just exclude them??
Well, Im looking forward to your answers guys.

Scarab Sages

Perhaps some of the other races could be the spawn of other greek deities:

Orcs could come from Typhon and Echidna, then half orcs from the usual interaction.

Halflings or gnomes could be related to Pan, or maybe Prometheus.

And don't forget that even though Gaia was not considered one of the Olympians, she is still a major goddess capable of creating her own races, as she did with giants.

Even though I bought every God Book (legends and lore, deities and demigods...) they've made, I always felt that it was innapropriate to use 'our world' gods in a d&d setting. To me, it sounded too much like playing on earth, which was the last thing I wanted to portray.

So that's why I favor the made up ones like Vecna and Kord.

Ultradan

Or maybe orcs worship same Zeus and Ares humans do...shared religious background never stopped Greeks from fighting each other. Lest we forget, Greek gods are not particularly nice folks :)

I'm not sure if this supplement is any good but thought I would pass the info on.

I've got that one; it's got some excellent suggestions for incorporating elves and such into a Greek-themed campaign, and additionally has some cool prestige classes, feats, and domains that add a lot to the flavor. But it's still 100% high-magic D&D, unlike Sean Reynolds' "New Argonauts" (which I don't have, but have read the preview material). All that said, I feel that "R&R: Excaliber" is a stronger sourcebook than "Olympus," just for a different type of setting.
