Upcoming Game: Grimcleaver runs "The World"

I got some buzz that people might be interested in playing in a game run by yours truly, and I have been interested in running a game for you all. I'm really proud of the work that's been going into The World, our very own Paizo game setting (thanks Lilith!) so I thought about setting the game there.

I'm thinking of setting the game in the port city of Kota, though characters from across Shandura who might be in the area are more than welcome. It will be a character intensive game, though due to the shared setting it will be run by RAW. There will be very little in the way of dice-rolling, but what little there is can be done by the players themselves (I trust ya'.) Starting level is first, starting races are any of the PC races from any of the books so long as they are human equivalent ECL.

Writeup of Shandura

There's no set limit to the number of characters, but I'd like to keep it a small friendly game as opposed to a riot. I'll be doing most of the character screening and genning right here and though likely we'll set something up on another board to actually play it, I'll also be posting frequently our progress on the Campaign Journals. What I'd like from interested folks right now are concepts for characters: Background, Personality, Plot Hooks, Goals, that sort of thing. I'm not so interested in stats, though you can certainly do a character sheet writeup. Plenty of time to get those to me though, for now I'd like to know the -who- of the characters.

Anyhow this should be a blast and I look forward to getting some responses in.

Is everybody first level?

Damn, no dwarven wizard with d10 HD! Oh well it'll still be fun!

Kyr: Yep. Characters start at first level, any classes though (and there are loads) and pretty much any race so long as there's no ECL to it.

TSunrise: Sorry. Heh. Normally I'd love to, but the whole idea here is to have a setting that everyone here can run adventures in and affect. It'd be squirrley if all my NPCs and monsters and characters were running off a massively modded system. That's a downside, but I really like the work people have been putting into The World and have been wanting to keep my word about running a game there!

Okay Grim, here's my character idea. He/she (haven't decided yet) is a NINJA! Actually a rogue in game terms (which is how I've always pictured rogues anyway; rogue="gifted street-urchin" is just bogus). I want to do a 'ran away from his/her clan because they ordered him/her to murder own family' story; short, simple and bitter. He/she will have a personality somewhere in between the "realistic" loner type (excuse to not rp) and the hyperactive Naruto (kender reminiscent) type. So whaddya think Grim? :)

Silver Crusade

How would the game be played? Play by Post?

Oh and are we using point-buy or rolling for stats?

I'd like to try a gnome ranger. Gengi Waywalker a typical member of the waywalker family in that he has an insatiable curiosity and wanderlust. The majority of the Waywalker clan share this trait and when two family members meet by chance it is no small celebration.

Gengi is a lover of nature and is perfectly happy sustaining himself in the wild but tries to learn more about city life when he can.

In conversation he employs humor and enthusiasm. And in combat he uses poison tipped arrows, his spell like illusions, stealth, and a not so healthy obsession with destroying giants and abberations.

Will this be done with a point buy? If so then, which one?

My prefered chargen method is to roll 4d6, drop the lowest, roll 7 times, drop the lowest, then allocate the results however you'd like. Point buy tends to end up with blander, more optimized characters, but the above system is generous enough that most folks don't end up with stink stats, and usually there's at least a few high rolls. I've been pretty happy with it.

As far as how to play, yeah it'll be play by post. I've set up a space on WorldPress. Basically I write out the post and the characters reply by posting comments. I take the comments and formulate the next post. Hopefully it will be a nice compromise between pbems which are dreadfully slow, and chat games, which are hard to control and schedual. In most ways it will be a traditional RPG. I figure when dice need rolled I can do it, unless people want to roll their own--in which case just roll and put the result in parentheses after your action.

Hero tries to pick the lock (17).

Pretty straightforward stuff.

The characters so far look just fine. At this rate we should be getting underway sooner than I thought.

You know there's an actual ninja class, right? Complete Adventurer came out with it I believe along with the Scout, Spellthief, Samurai, etc. Also if there's elements of either the Rogue or the Ninja class that you'd like to tweak, a la PHB2 to better reflect what you'd like to see them be capable of, the setting is totally big enough to work with that. Remember it's largely a desert culture, so a twist of something like beduin/dervish/hasheater in there could be cool. Could have a little Shaido in it if you're familiar with the Wheel of Time (the dishonorable pragmatist faction of Aiel) which may or may not mean anything to you...

Sounds great. Wow the character submissions are short and sweet, but suprisingly they feel very complete. Our group will constantly have to sit me down and talk over characters for half an hour! Anyhow I think you're pretty well set. Again remember if you're interested in switching things up a bit, I welcome alternate special abilities and other tweaks along the lines of the suggestions in the PHB2 and Cool Ways to Break the Rules section in the DMG (pg. 146)

I'd like to get in on this if at all possible.

I see a half-elf wizard, raised by the human half of the family in a small rural area, trained by the old human village sage in the mystical arts.
When the old sage died, our hero went to the closest city to find a new tutor and library, and is somewhat wide-eyed (book smart, street stupid), but thirsty for knowledge.

He hoped to learn about elf culture, but the elves he has so far seen are distant and alien, with their slow view of time and the world. He finds it unfair that his old mentor had not even reached the age that many young-seeming elves are just starting their careers at.

More info soon if there aren't too many characters already...

A half-orc - but not quite - limps out of the Goma and into Kota, bloodied and beaten, ragged scraps of rags subsisting for clothing. The local priesthood discovered him, mute, his tongue cut out and his jaw broken. They took slight pity on him for the night, gave him water to wash his wounds in and a loose set of clothing. At first they thought he was blind from beatings, but after he bathed his vision improved. Still, their mercy only extended a night, and the next day he left the chapel.

He stays in town always, begging silently along the docks and watching. Watching for what, nobody knows.

Kutok, human (quarter-orc) monk (damage reduction variant from unearthed arcana)

Yeah sudden strike just doesn't sit right with me. In addition to stealth attacking I want to be able to Improved Feint and Flank for sneak attack damage. I may decide to use the alternative rogue ability at 4th level from PHBII; we'll see. I LOVE Wheel of Time and think it'd be awesome to have a dual-shortspear wielding barbarian/rogue in the group, but not me at least for the moment.

You mentioned that this will be an rp heavy game; will the party be greatly hindered if I were to ignore Disable Device? (others welcome to answer also) Should we post our complete character stats somewhere or send them to you somehow?

P.S. I'd like to go on record saying that you're a brave DM for allowing us to roll pretty much all our stuff in an online game. So if you ever decide to change your mind and start rolling for us, I won't be offended. I've had some experiences with cheaters.

I deffinately want in on this. I don't have a character concept at the moment, but I just wanted to throw my name in before the slots filled up.

Sexi, I'll be you have no idea what type of character I'll be playing, do you? ;)

All right, I've got one. I see that there's already and arcanist in the group; is there room for one more?

I don't have a name for the character yet, but he will be a high elf worshipping Vaedryn the Lorekeeper. He comes from an elven city within the southern reaches of the Daman Penninsula. The elven city was founded during the time of the Burning Raja as a group of elves that reached out across the sea to aid allies on Shandura. Afterwards, they remained to help lend their elven magics to warding against further demonic attacks.

This elf might be a good character to interact with Evilturnip's wizard. I'd mainly focus on non-combat and item creation abilities.

Right now I'm thinking that he is one of a group of students who ahve accompanied their mentor, a spellcaster of some noteriety, to Kota in order to acess their library, compiled from all the different travellers from across The World.

Isaeldan Shaldiir- Elven wizard.

Grim:
This sounds like a blast, I absolutely love the setting(Good job Aberzombie!).

I'd love to join this game, but I have to straight up with you, I've never played play-by-post before, since I've always got the feeling that they will die after a short while. But I recognize alot of "active" people from the board here and think that the game dying won't be a problem, if you now what I mean. And also, I'm from Sweden, so I might have some problems with the language, none that I can't solve but I'll probably end up sending posts with some "wierd" grammar etc. :P

If that's fine with you I already have some character ideas :)

Liberty's Edge

Can you tell us how to get there when it happens? I'd at least like to lurk and see how it all works (if that's kopacetic).

Obviously, I cam eup with a name for the character before finishing my previous post. It occured to me, though, that it might me better to just run a cleric, rather than another wizard. In that case, the deity will change to one of the listed Elven pantheon that grants the magic domain.

Assuming that there's still room I could get by with once/twice per day posting, I'd love to get in on this. I'd been thinking the other day that it would be all sorts of awesome to play with people from around the boards here. I've been itching to play a caster for a bit, and it's been a while since I played in a role where a support character might be appreciated.

Keria is, first and foremost, a seeker of knowledge. She's almost indiscriminate in this search -- she'd be just as happy learning the proper table manners for dining with the nomads of the Fodoran Wastes as learning about the magic which keeps Cascadia afloat. Over the years, she's picked up enough random trivia to "fake it" well enough to get by passably at most tasks. She's wandered far from home questing for whatever piece of information caught her fancy, learning innumerable "lesser" pieces of information along the way. She's basically kind hearted, if somewhat distant -- she's perfectly happy to help you out, but while her heart may be in the task her mind is likely elsewhere, trying to puzzle out some piece of minutiae that caught her interest.

(Grey Elven Bard with the Bardic Knack substitution feature (PHB 2) and "Elf Dilettante" feat (Races of the Wild), if those options are permissible)

Also, were we going to roll our own ability scores, or did you want to do it? Invisible Castle has a nifty setup where you can put in the parameters for your rolls (in this case, roll seven times at "4d6.takeHighest(3)",) and the site rolls the dice and archives them. Keria, for example, got exceptionally nice rolls with that setup.

Everything looks great.

Saern I think two arcane mages will work just fine--no need to alter your concept overmuch (not that a cool specialist or variant wouldn't be neat).

Teasing1 I'm not planning on ditching, and I'd love to see your concepts.

Thanis and Evilturnip the characters look great.

White Toymaker, you're certainly most welcome I think it will be great fun to have you in the game.

For all the people mentioning mechanics and how the game will go, I have a site done up. I'll post the address once all the characters are done and questions are answered so the page doesn't get crowded with a bunch of pregame banter. I'm totally fine with people rolling their own dice and making their characters on their own. I would ask that non core feats and special abilities have some notes as to how they work. No biggie, but it will help me greatly. You can send character sheets to crypttales@yahoo.com along with as much character background notes as you can possibly cram in. I love that stuff and promise that the substance of the game will be drawn heavily from the characters' backstories.

I am really really looking forward to this.

I hate to say it too, but I think aside from people who have requested a spot already that we're done full up. I am amazed how fast that happened, but the response has been great. Anyway shoot me character sheets to look over and we'll get started.

Heathansen: http://paizorpg.wordpress.com/2006/10/18/welcome/
But don't post yet! I'm trying to keep it exclusively for game posts! In fact I was kinda' planning to keep it secret until the game started.

Liberty's Edge

Right on. I just want to watch and see how it all works even.
You got plenty characters and whatnot.

Aellanna Therethar, Half-Elven Female Paladin Of Freedom(Unearthed Arcana).

Aellanna came to Kota when she was 6, alone and without past the good people at the Lighthouse Orphanage took her in under their roof. Aellanna made many friends there and loved that place. When she was 26 she had earned enough money, teaching the basics of elven, to invest in the orphanage. Last year a merchant bidded on the orphanage with promises to tidy the place up and make room for more orphans, they all agreed that it was an good idea. Two weeks later all the orphans was thrown on the street and the whole two-story building was turned into a warehouse. Two weeks after that the merchant had "gone missing" and the orphanage was up and running again...

Aellanna has little to do with the orphanage nowadays, she stays at cheap inns, and every now and then she works at the docks listening to the rumors the ships bring with them.

She's a joyful girl at 28, wise for her age but doesn't spend time dwelling in thought too long. Flirtatious and charismatic, romance is a big part of her life, but she has never considered getting into a longer relationship.

Wow! I can't believe the interest that has been shown in something I created. It really makes me happy to see you folks making use of Shandura.

Saern, I was orignially planning on not having any major elven settlements on Shandura, but I've changed my mind after readng your little post. I like the idea alot. Do you want to write something up and post it on the site? If not, I can do it. I was thinking of a small fortress/city. It would have to be heavily fortified since the Koldara Jungle is heavily infested with orcs and other nasty things (especially in its northern reaches).

To others:

Even though I haven't posted it yet, I was going to create a small cult/monastic order based on the Bhutan Peninsula. They worship a good deity and revere the white tigers of the Annaji Jungle as being this deity's sacred totem animal.

Also, I was planning on having the orcs of the Daman Peninsula primarily worship Kali. They are also going to have smaller cults dedicated to various demon lords.

For those interested, I've posted a basic timeline of the island.

Hey Aberzombie. I've been reading the stuff you've added and wow. You've got the gift. Great stuff. Before I try and make it my own I was wondering if you wanted to shoot me an e-mail with whatever other thoughts (including juicy DM only stuff? Heh) that you have been thinking about.

crypttales@yahoo.com

I'd like as good a hook into it as possible. I love what you've come up with so far. Hopefully I do it justice. I love the whole Living Campaign feel this has. Hopefully we'll be able to add some interesting events in our run. Feel free to drop by the site to keep tabs on events. I'll be posting a campaign journal as well so others can follow our exploits.

More info and questions....

Gengi has only started his wandering career. From his youthful treks with his father around his birthplace in the Naja hills to his long journey into the Annanji jungles. With his natural skill as a tracker (his gnomish sense of smell and ability to gain verbal information from the wildlife make his methods unique and effective) and his recent weapons and tactical training by a gnome fighter he has come across the ranger lifestyle and made it his own.

During his treks Gengi's exposure to poison began to draw his curiosity towards it's mechanics. Both the cobras of his native hills and the many poisons of the jungle became an obsession and means of experimentation. He learned goblin and orc languages to learn more about their mastery of toxins. This was not always easy due too obvious racial tensions.

(I've given Gengi the craft poisonmaking skill from the complete adventurer. Please look it over and let me know if this is o.k. and if it is please let me know which poisons I can find from local plantlife or animals using survival skill.)

So far Gengi's combat arsenal includes a longbow (archery combet style), a battle axe and a heavy shield, two daggers (at least one of which I intend to be constantly coated with poison for throwing, if you allow it of course G.C.) and the quickdraw feat.

Since his damage potential is very small I hope to suppliment it with poison use, and using Gengi as a protector when needed. His AC is pretty high (19 with a shield) and with quick draw he can seamlessly switch between melee and ranged roles.

As far as character discussion I was interested in whether Gengi could have a fox pet (possibly being bonded as his animal companion later). Gengi has the handle animal skill, wild empathy, and can speak to burrowing mammals such as foxes once per day as a special ability. How much of my starting wealth would you rule this creature would take? If it is allowed.

I have no idea how to send you a character a sheet but am ready to do so as soon as I learn how.

These characters are excellent stuff, people. I'm getting excited.

I'll work more on a character background with hooks and stats this evening.

Probably will write it up on paper, and then fill out
http://www.pathguy.com/cg35.htm
since it generates a pretty nice clean sheet once you are finished, that is easy to send over the 'net.

I like the suggestion for
http://invisiblecastle.com/index.py
for rolling the ability scores.

*waves her big Hint Stick around*

You know, y'all could trot on over to The World and type up yer character stuff on your user page. That way, you'll have a handy way to keep track of things as well as be able to add more information and juicy details to The World...

Yessim.

I would still share your character ideas here, of course, but putting them on The World Project will keep everything in location, so to speak. :)

While I won't be participating in the game itself, I'll be behind the scenes, adding stuff, maybe make some maps, city drawings, all that sorta stuff. :D

Here's the stats for Aellanna:

http://www.dmtools.org/world/index.php/User:Teasing1

When Aellanna was 17-19 she entered a relationship with one of the city guard. The poor young man loved Aellanna to the death, and spent all of his freetime with her. He also offered Aellanna to move in with him and his parents until they could afford their own place but Aellanna said that was wasn't what she wanted. He taught her how to hold a sword and wear armor while fighting and how to anticipate where blows would land. Thankful for thier time together Aellanna kissed him goodbye after a 2 year long relationship.

The few times Aellanna has been in battle she preferably swings her longsword while a heavy steel shield rests on her left arm. She likes to be mobile and free and would never consider putting heavy armor on. She always fights cautiosly, trading in BAB for AC(AC: 18).

Genji is up and running

Ohh and how are we going to handle dice rolls? Pardon my ignorance I have no idea how an online game runs.

I'm too busy today with college stuff to make my character yet, but I'll get to it. I'm sticking with cleric because 1) I always play wizards and want a change, and 2) possibly better for party balance? Eh, seems like we're pretty good, but a medic is always nice.

Shandura obviously has an exotic, mideast/east Indian flavor to it. Can my high elf have proficiency with the scimitar? I'd be willing to trade rapier for it. All major statistics are identical.

Aberzombie, this is your beast, so feel free to make whatever you want. However, what I was thinking was a city hidden within the jungles, made of white stone with plenty of arches and open spaces, and covered with vines and flowers and decorous tropical trees and plants. A fortress works just fine, but I was also thinking it would incorporate the traditional high elven love of elegance and art.

I was also thinking perhaps there are militant groups of grugach or wood elves in the neighboring area that work as scouts and rangers for the high elves? The high elves themselves are more reclusive, staying within their walls and researching wards and keeping an eye on forces that might want to summon the demons once more. However, some do get sent into the outside world from time to time for various reasons (that's me!). That's just what I had loosely in my head. I've no objection to you changing any of it to fit your vision of Shandura.

Okay, I've got <a href="http://www.dmtools.org/details.php?id=665" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Ajjira</a> up on dmtools because I couldn't figure out how to get her onto The World cite. I have an link to her incredable portrait, but it doesn't seem to working. I also can't get this link to work...argh!

I'll post Ajjira's story later when I have it straight. (and I'll stick to it!)

Yay, I've statted up Half-Elf Wizard, Gillad Twiggurd after making my rolls at the invisible castle. I got somewhat embarassingly high rolls for the ability scores, but I promise I chose the character name before rolling and would stick with whatever I got unless it was Rules As Written unplayable.

My Rolls

Backstory is almost done. I'll make my account at "the world" and post the char as soon as I can.

Do we roll for starting money and buy equipment as normal?
I see Thanis Kartaleon did that (excellent flavoured character, by the way).

Also, I'm thinking of pursuing the fatespinner PrC eventually, but I forget what ability score gambling is tied to. Charisma? Or is it Wisdom? I assume it's cross-class for a Wizard.

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

I would like to get in on this as well. I've got an idea for a dwarven fighter from the mountains near Khemri. He was a regular guard for one of the mountain holds before he decided that he wanted to venture out and see more of the world beyond the mountains.

His name is Harumn Blackshield. The roll I got for him is here:

Nice Rolls!

Character is up on the site at My User Page.

Argh! Requesting a reroll? Highest stat is a 14!

http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=690779

EDIT- And do you still want our character sheets sent to your e-mail, or just post them on the World? If by e-mail, what format/how should we send them to you?

Evilturnip wrote:

Profession (gambling) is Wis based and a class skill for all core classes except barbarian and fighter.

Ajjira is the daughter of Mihai, the third wife of the wealthy merchant Hadajj of Arishad. Mihai, in an effort to empower her daughter, was able to hire an ex "adventurer" known to her only as Mentor and The Zephyr without the knowledge of her husband Hadajj. Ajjira learned the arts of deception from her Mentor very well, aided by her quick wits and natural beauty.

On her 14th birthday, Ajjira was informed by her father that she would be marrying an aged noble of minor status named Al'Quidam. Saddened by the very thought of him, Ajjira resolved to escape the marriage and dissappeared on the day before her 15th birthday and the day she was to marry Al'Quidam. It is now two months after her flight from Arishad, and Ajjira has found herself in Kota in need of a means to make money.

Well, while I'm waiting on a reply regarding the reroll, here's Isaeldan's background:

(This letter was found amongst the various notes, tomes, and scrolls in possession of Harsid Vis. It is rather long-winded, as is typical for elven writings).

Harsid Vis, Keeper of the Word, Kota,

Quel’thoras/Greetings to you! May this letter find you in the peaceful contemplation of Vaedryn. It is with the greatest respect that I scribe this missive to you as head of Kota’s “library,” to use a word from your tongue. May long be the years in which you contemplate the words of the books under your charge.

I am sure one of such a vaunted status as Yourself is aware of the city of Narassil. However, to avoid possible confusion, allow me to risk redundancy and explain that Narassil lies in the southern reaches of the Daman Peninsula, and is my home. I only bother to notate this due to the seclusion of my people within its walls. This is partly due to our sense of duty, partly due to the danger of the surrounding lands, and partly due to my people’s traditional, reclusive ways. There are many beyond Narassil, I understand, who are unaware of its existence.

Provided I have not offended your intellect, Keeper, please, read on. It was a mere thirty years ago that it was announced Aylwari (“Librarian”) Selessin was ready to take on a new acolyte to be trained in the ways of mighty Vaedryn. It was with great delight that I was chosen so quickly to be his “pupil”, within only three years of the announcement. I moved to a position equivalent to your church acolytes within only twelve years. I trust the speed of my ascension lends some credit to my abilities.

Another brief span of years passed, and I finally “graduated,” as you would say. However, I am still not completely ready to become the new Aylwari, as Aylwari Selessin is still quite capable in his position serving Vaedryn within Narassil. To further attest to my humble, novice status within the service of Vaedryn, I have yet to even begin my Kilesyr’tenaru, or “Learning Wander.” All new priests of Vaedryn must first complete a self-direct instruction, accomplished by roving over the lands, researching whatever mysteries present themselves. When one has traveled on the Kilesyr’tenaru for no less than thirty years, and has felt the personal call of Vaedryn, then, and only then, can one become an Aylwari.

Thus it is with an interest to begin my Kilesyr’tenaru by traveling to Kota. Within the halls of lore in Narassil, I have found reference to a mysterious locale, known only as “Teksor.” I have done some research here in Narassil, but I can find nothing more than the name and its description as some form of location upon Shandura. This is the reason that I turn my hopes towards you and your knowledge and “library,” with the hopes that you may be able to provide some insight into this mystery and help me in the process of starting my Kilesyr’tenaru.

I will be arriving in just under two years from the time you receive this letter. I hope that I have afforded you enough time to make preparations for my perusal of your tomes. I would normally not move with such haste, but opportunities to leave the Daman Peninsula in relative safety are few, and I must begin my Kilesyr’tenaru as soon as possible. I hope you understand that it is without offense when I say that I am hopeful that, as human, you will be used to dealing with such short time scales.

Quel’donoras,
Isaeldan Shaldiir

Isaeldan's background

*Applauds* Very 'elven.' It's hard to get the perspective of someone who is over 100 years old and still a "child." I love the excessive explanations Isaeldan has for everything. Remind me never to have Kutok ask him (her?) about the weather. Oh wait, Kutok's mute. Phew, I'm safe.

Thanks. :) Isaeldan is a he, BTW.

Hey Saern great idea using a letter format, very personal and revealing. Hope you don't mind if I steal it.

A letter from Genji to Azula...

Azula I hope you can read this. Sorry about writing in the human alphabet but I ran into complications the last time I wrote in gnome.

Get this, two weeks ago I ran into a caravan hauling "exotic game" out of the jungle for some menagerie. They said that they were planning on stopping in at home for some gemcutting before they headed back to the city. So I hand them a letter I'd been trying to have sent to you and a few coins for their trouble. Aparently they never saw gnome runes in red ink because he threw down the paper and burned it! Then he accused me of trying to curse his family and chases me away with a spear! Honestly you conjure some green lights to flag down a wagon and all the suddens humans think you can steal their souls. I keep forgetting how jumpy these big folk are. You'd figure weighing 200 pounds would make them a little harder to scare.

It's a good thing I'm such I nice fellow or I'd have put some arrows into his backside for the indignity! As it was though I convinced a hedghog to spend the night in his sleeping roll. Ha! You should have seen it Azy! This loon comes tearing out of his wagon screaming the nastiest curses I've ever heard! Then he looks down at his foot and sees all the red glop and gore. It took forever to mush up all those thrush berries and get them into his pallet but boy was it worth the work! Like you always say Azy it's the little spices that sweeten the soup. Anyway, this fool looks at his foot and thinks he's been eaten. He falls over screaming that he's going to bleed to death. It took five men to calm him down long enough to figure out what was wrong!

Anyway Azy I'm writing this letter in hopes that cousin Nikkrin hasn't left town just yet. I saw him on the road out of the hills about three weeks ago and we stuck together for a few days before we parted paths. He said he was going up to Kota before winter and I've just made up my mind to go up there myself. If if this letter makes it in time please tell that if he can wait a month or so I'll be making my way back into town and we can plan the trip together.

Azy it's been quite a little trip for me and I'm really looking forward to seeing you again. But even more than that I'm looking forward to running into little Mitrianna. That girls has grown up fast and in all the right places too! I tell you Azy old man Duggins is going to have a hard time keeping Hilltops resident giant slayer off of her!

GOTCHA!!!

Master Duggins, I know Azulas struggles to read common and I knew if she needed an translator she would go to you. You know I'd never do anything improper with Mits. Azy, come on, you know your the only girl for me.

Sorry I can't see your faces right now! But with luck I'll be seeing them soon!

Genji

P.S. just in case the other letters don't make it give my love to mom and gran gran and everyone else for me Azy.

Keria is up on my User Page. As for the letter (which is definitely a nifty idea,) here's mine.

Father,

I trust that you remain in good health. I'm certain that by the time this message reaches you, Aeleth or Taianna will have informed you of my flight. I know that I am only a child, but I could not learn anything with a pair of guards ready to shield me from any potential discomfort or inconvenience. You know this -- it is our way to learn by doing. I am aware that what I did to Aeleth and Taianna was a cruelty unfit even for the younger races, but I ask that you have faith in me. I did not abandon them in a fit of whimsy. The world has changed since Grandmother's childhood, and we'll not learn the extent of the damage without venturing out from fortified positions to mingle with (and learn from) those who now inhabit it. Those who live and die amidst rubble will likely be unaware of its original grandeur, but there may yet be histories which explain the happenings of our peoples' lost years

I have managed to find primers for certain exotic tongues not spoken in our home, hidden within the younglings' library's (if you can use the term to describe the pitifully small repositories of books I have found thus far.) Those I unearthed have all shared alphabets with those spoken at home -- one must stop and ponder, why might the short ones who call themselves Gnomes have a language sharing abecedarian components with that of the giants? Certain characters seem to be scribed with minor variations, as you can see by the lines I've placed on the bottom of this letter, but the commonalities clearly outnumber the differences -- I suspected at first that they were merely diacritical in nature, but the variations seem to be, within their language, the rule rather than the exception.

I have made discreet inquiries, and none of the common people of this region have even heard of any illness with symptoms such as those which Grandmother described. It would seem that in this part of the world it has ceased activity. I cannot speak, of course, to the question of whether that inactivity is due to extinction or dormancy. That is a question for far more gifted adepts than I.

With my eyes ever upward,
Keria Ruil'Soleira

Yah! Ajjira is complete with portrait and stats!

A scrap of parchment was found lying near Kutok by one of the priests. Vital information for true understanding of its content had already been ripped out...

The bottom of the parchment bears a circular symbol, smudged beyond casual recognition.

Hah! I always thought that girl could make a cool D&D portrait. Those freaky eyes...

Arg. I was hoping to finish up char backstory during downtime at work today but it's been crazy!

I'll clean it up and fix the skill point errors soon.

I'm thinking of taking as my level 1 feat
Dreamtelling, from Heroes of Horror, if it's OK with Grim.

http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/feats.pl?Dreamtelling,HH
has a rundown on it.
I don't care if dreamscapes become a part of the game or not, I really liked the flavour of it, and might take some of the follow-up feats. I'm thinking of having young Gillad being chosen for wizard apprenticeship because of his gift of dreamtelling.

Any snatches of interesting dreams I can add to my backstory?

While I'd still like a reroll on my stats, I'm going to go ahead and flesh out Isaeldan's numbers and post him on the world. I'll try and figure out how to link when I'm done.

EDIT- Sexi, I think you took my blue d4 the last time you were over. Check and see if you've got one that doesn't match up, and get another color of dice!

Sorry. Wednesday and Thursday are my game days, so I'm a little slower then. By all means Saern, reroll away. It's a casual game among friends and I figure it's to get decent stats, rather than trying to get all 18s. I prefer happy players to happy rules.

The dreamtelling feat looks sweet. No problem. I'm off to check The World. Hopefully everything here is reprinted there, or that at least all the info is represented on the character sheets because the posts are starting to bleed together a bit and its getting hard to keep straight what details go with what characters. It'll be nice when everything for each character is listed all on a single webpage.

In answer to the question about e-mail, I'd say mail me anything you don't want everyone seeing. If you're comfortable leaving your secrets for all to see and counting on people's good roleplaying not to take your secrets into character then I need nothing e-mailed (except a simple e-mail to let me have your address so I can send secret posts and whatnot to each player).

Anyhow let me check The World page and I'll be back.

I would still share your character ideas here, of course, but putting them on The World Project will keep everything in location, so to speak. :)

While I won't be participating in the game itself, I'll be behind the scenes, adding stuff, maybe make some maps, city drawings, all that sorta stuff. :D

Might I beg a suggestion of everyone. It's gonna' take some moving stuff around.

Lilith: Could I get a new header in the same list as "flora," "fauna," or "organizations" if there could also be a header for "adventurers" we could link all the character sheets and backgrounds together on one page so I don't have to search each character individually. It will give a place for anyone who makes characters for the setting to place their character in the public domain as a character in the World--and it will let the players make actual user pages for themselves. But mostly it will make things easier for the ol' DM so I can peruse the characters in my campaign without having to do a bunch of searches.

EDIT: BETTER IDEA! Genius! And I can do it myself! Nevermind I got it figured out. I think I'll put Adventurers as a subcatagory for the regions. That way the characters are geographically specific. That will be better in a ton of ways. Actually I kinda' like the idea of doing flora, fauna, organizations etc. in the same way too, but that's for others to kick around.
