Dungeon Crawl Classics...Any help is appreciated.

3.5/d20/OGL

I've been considering buying some of the Dungeon Crawl Classics both for myself and to give as holiday gifts. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions regarding this series?

Reviews for the modules are scarce; and what ones I have found don't contain enough detail for me to feel informed, therefore confident, in making a purchase.

As the title states, any assistance is appreciated...

Scarab Sages

I've picked up several of them, and, overall I think they are very good.

The ones I would thoroughly recommend would be
#24 Legend of the Ripper (I thought this one was excellent)
#17 Legacy of the Savage Kings (and I'm wanting to pick up #17.5 to suppliment it now)
#11 The Dragonfiend Pact (Great little mini-adventure)
#1 Idylls of the Rat-King and #27 Revenge of the Rat-King (I thought they were pretty solid)
#5 Aerie of the Crow-God
#20 Shadows in Freeport (guts-dripping from the ceiling, over the top with the gore, but that was the point of the adventure)

Now I'm also an elbow-grease kinda DM and I think they may take a little bit to drop into an existing campaign/world, but I think that they translate very easily for the most part.

Ones I wasn't as wild about, but still could probably use:
#19 The Volcano Caves (good enough concept, but it just didn't seem to go anywhere)
#21 Assault on Stormbringer Castle and #22 The Stormbringer Juggernaught (started strong, but I thought it ended kinda weak).
#2 The Lost Vault of Tsathzar Rho and #3 Mysterious Tower were okay, but only just. They just didn't seem to know where they were going like some of the other ones.

I will second the vote for this one:

#11 The Dragonfiend Pact

which was actually rather inspired and actually got me interested in the Dungeon Crawl Classics line.

I think there all cool for the price and that they are like old school AD&D for 3.5!You can always add to the story if its weak! I"m always enhancing a story line to fit my campaign!

i own the scaly god and vault of the dragon kings both are very good.i like what im seeing from goodman games so far.they have contained good background so you can get a good feel for the module.and my game group likes them.hope this was helpful.

There's also one, "Escape from the Forest of Lanterns," coming out by some goober named 'Steve Greer' (if that's his real name...) before too long. I'm gonna have to pick that one up.

I (and my players) really liked #2 The Lost Vault of Tsathzar Rho, more so than #5 Aerie of the Crow-God. But then again, we tend towards the twisted.

C'est la... I think the YMMV disclamer for any review is pretty applicable. I'm not sorry I bought any of them, I think they are especially good for the prices.

This one reminded me of those Gygax modules that used Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass as foundations...

Steve G. would know for sure, but it sure seems to have a Dungeonland quality about it.

Darkhuntsman, I wrote Scaly God—thanks for the kind words!

I bought Cages of Delirium (DCC 34) and I loved it. I'm not too keen on the idea of NPCs only being around to kill (and it is somewhat of an exaggeration), but this one had lots of NPC interaction, good combat, and some really creepy stuff. Kind of like "Shut-In." Hmmm....

I own just about all of them, including the very cool Gazetteer of the Known Realms. Each one is different and some are better than others, but overall they are great!

Kobolds from the Far Realms
Evil Treants
Plagues
Serial Killers
Undead Aboleth
Space Turtles
Haunted Asylums
Demons and Dragons out the wazoo

What is there not to like!

Does the DCC line of adventures follow the wealth by level guidelines from the DMG? I didn't notice anything really wonky with DCC 34, but I just finished reading DCC 10 The Sunless Garden and some of the treasure and magical items seems a bit excessive for an adventure for 6th to 8th level characters.

I have only purchased several. Those I have are okay, but nothing particularly memorable. The Sunken Ziggurat is probably the best one, and the only one I'd recommend.

Definitely a YMMV moment. I played this one at a convention, run by a DM who was under the author's personal supervision. It blew. Hard.

I own about eight of these modules, and every one of them is good to some extent! I am very impressed.

Of particular note:
#8 Into the Wilds - a perfect module to kick off any campaign...

#17 Legacy of the Savage Kings - there is just something about the Witch Queen that makes me feel dirty...
