Recently, in my drawing class, we had the assignment to make something with multiple images that pushed the limits of what a drawing could be. My first thought: Humongous Dungeon Master Screen.

I was going to make one side a huge cliched fantasy picture, very 1st Edition. The other side would be a drawing of my friends from home playing the game, as a kind of homage to them. The viewer would be able to walk around the whole thing. The idea was to watch the fantasy being created, as the D&D scene would be based on the composition of my photo of my friends playing. Inside vs. outside. Imagination vs. reality. The side that would face the DM would be my friends, with the bombastic fantasy drawing on the outside.

Did you notice I said "would" a lot?

Didn't happen. I had a month deadline and I didn't even have one side done by the time it was over. So I've had to put it on hiatus. This is easily the largest drawing I've ever made. It was going to be forty inches by sixty inches, pencil rendered. So, my plan is to shorten the picture slightly and move some figures around to make a more dynamic composition. I still hope to someday finish it (along with several other projects I'm dying to make: sometimes I hate being a student with assignments and obligations when I have so many great ideas).

http://jamesmkeegan.blogspot.com for those interested. May not be work safe, due to some nudity since I wanted it to be over the top. I did self censor it, though, so maybe it won't be a problem. There is also a painting in the fantasy-ish vein that's still in progress.

Very cool stuff, James. Dynamic compositions is something I'm still struggling with. It's been a while since I've done solely pencil work, your stuff is really nice!

The biggest piece I've ever done is an 8-ft by 8-ft mural for my high school library. Which, I found out by contacting the librarian, is still available if I want it.

Yikes, a painting all the way back from my junior year in high school? Sheesh.

So, if anyone wants to make a trip to John Jay High School in San Antonio for me...:P

Your work is awesome, James! I especially like the baby tree and the portraits.

Lilith, I'm just a couple of hours at most from SA and work down there often, so...
