Beware Tanglefoot Bags!!! (Spoilers)

Savage Tide Adventure Path

Veteran DMs will nod their heads, but I must state it for the new up-and-coming DM's. The boss battle of There Is No Honor was neatly wrapped up due to tanglefoot bags and a melee gang up.

If your players seem to be fond of either of these tactics, you might want to consider increasing the size of Rowyn's room to allow her and Gut Tugger more freedom to move (and also to explain how all her swag can actually fit in it.) An extra square on either side should be enough.

(BTW, this is the third time I've tried to post this, I'll be pleasantly surprised if it actually makes it on the board!)

Rowyn's room could certainly use some sizing up. Then again... the way the hallway's set up, it should be kinda tough for the entire party to get in there; the room and hallway leading up to it are kinda set up to prevent her from being easilly outnumbered.

Anyway... those alchemical items are all kinda trouble anyway. Especially since there's no rules for what happens when more than an ounce of any of them are in play. What happens if you drop a barrel of holy water on an undead? Or fill a catapult with tanglefoot goo?

Sounds like a great article for Dragon magazine or the Back section of Dungeon. Perhaps even start a thread to jack some ideas on mechanics from the "Lords of the Board" and give them a byline thank you at the end of the article.

Whadda ya think JJ?

This is used to great effect by my shackled city party- the rogue uses tanglefoot bags, marbles (!), and other miscelanny to great effect. Not that many monsters have levels in balance, and a raging character automatically fails the check. Can totally screw over an encounter.

From the SRD: While raging, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except for Balance, Escape Artist, Intimidate, and Ride)

Unfortunately, the marble trick is not an auto success against barbarians according to the SRD. Alchemical items can be great at lower levels but as annoying as they are for DMs, remember, what goes around comes around. My DM has used tanglefoot bags against us many times and frustrated us like crazy with archers who had us trapped for a couple of rounds.
