He's in Dallas with his wife and son, who is getting an operation. The operation was put off until tomorrow, due to hospital planning/logistics, so he'll be leaving Dallas on Monday if his son can travel. (f2k, I think I have all this right; you have to forgive me, I get punchy at the end of the day, at which time exact details are not my strong suit).
I went over to his hotel after work, and we shot the breeze about gaming and writing for about an hour. He gave me a bottle of homebrew mead which I shall imbibe tomorrow, and a bottle of homebrew beer which has to age a week. Details forthcoming...
His wife played Gamma World in high school. How many men can say that? And his son is a good little feller. He listens to his parents really well; infinitely better than my son who was fittingly born on the date of the first Viking raid in England (June 8 at Lindisfarne).
What a great guy. He's a class act. We just shot the breeze for an hour, and he took his family out to eat and I returned home to my brood.
I think I picked up a few writing tips--I have to learn to look for and identify passive writing.
I also learned that apparently Mr. Steve Greer is very forgiving of people who mangle his dragons...
F2k, take care, sir. I wish you all the best of luck in trying times.

I'm a guy who played Gamma World in high school. Oh wait, you mean how many guys are married, dating, etc women who played Gamma World? This meeting does describe the main reason I come to Paizo as opposed to most of the other D&D boards on the web. There seems to be a better collection of people. I actually might go to a GenCon or similar convention for the opportunity of meeting some of the Lords of the Boards and maybe drinking some of their homebrew.
And from what I've seen f2k is one of the best here.

PLEASE tell me you got an autograph, at least. Or a picture where you look super enthused and he looks kind of like,"Alright, you're meeting me, you're meeting me," like a Xena cast member at a convention. That stuff's bound to be a collector's item some day.
Oh! Oh! We need Paizo.com baseball cards, with artistic renditions of ourselves as our messageboard handles and on the back a real life photo. And stale gum! My card would be kind of lame, since it's my real name, but whatever.

Heh. And the gaming world grows just a little bit smaller... I'm just happy F2K didn't butt-bust my big blue dragon mini (it's about 10" tall) that was right behind the smaller one he bumped off the bookcase. I would have had to roll a 20 on my Bluff check to pretend I wasn't highly irritated ;) But, hey, minis break and you glue 'em back together, right?
F2K's definitely a really nice guy. Too bad he lives in Texas and I live in Vegas. And yet another gamer gets to sample his homebrews. I'm starting to think he's like the Johnny Appleseed of homebrews. I have about 3 bottles sitting in my cupboard that are supposed to age a wee bit longer. I'm not a drinker, but I have a few players that are and can't wait to get their hands on 'em :)

Yeah, that mummified baseball card gum the consistency of old tile spackle, with the powdery sheen that stings your throat when you first start crunching, not chewing it.
I figured, I got mead. Mead!!! Best not push my luck asking for an autograph.| Kata. the ..... |

Actually, we should be more in the mode for Magic Cards. A Lilith card might be {link to a useful web site). Fake_Healer might be rearrange two letters in a post to create a different meaning (e.g. rouge --> rogue).

It was great to meet another Paizo Board Lord in person as well, after having met Steve and his great group of gaming buddies and wife last June. It was a nice distraction from the "routine" of surgery in Dallas we seem to go through several times a year for the last 3 years. Heath is a great guy and definitely not a werewolf (although tomorrow night's a full moon).
I got my laptop with me and every hotel has HS internet nowadays, so at least I can still communicate. I'm glad Heath had a chance to come by and visit after working all day.
I plan to have at least a 12 pack of mead to share with other Paizo board/staff who manage to make it to Gencon next year. I'd pack more, but I'm going to fly.
Steve--that mead I left you guys should be good to drink pretty soon. It's much drier and less sweet and cidery than the last stuff you tried, much like a dry champagne. It's also a little sparkly, so hopefully it'll taste better than the last stuff you guys tried, which I wasn't all that happy with.
Thanks for all the well wishes many of you already extended here and in the rant thread.
F2K (who never played Gammaworld)
PS: The passive language thing is something I was not really aware of until Ashavan edited something I wrote and made me aware of it. It's still so hard to catch.

Lucky wolf-boy! I hope to one meet several of the Lords someday. If anyone is going to the PA Ren-faire next saturday I could arrange to meetup. I am going to get some Mead! Mount Hope Winery has 2 types: a sweet honey mead and a blueberry-honey mead (sweet?). That is the whole reason I am taking the 2-hour drive.
Hope things are well F2K. I am keeping you and yours in my prayers.

Heck yeah. It was really interesting. I was nervous beforehand and everything. It's kinda different meeting someone who in some ways you allready know.
If anyone moves over there, you've probably got a ready gaming group and everything. He said he's turning his garage into a gaming room.

I only know F2K from a foto on front of two tanks and A LOT OF EMAILS from the last 1 1/2 year.
Anyway, I hope to meet him next year at GenCon, where he hopefully reserves a room in the hotel he's staying for me as well ;)
Again, best wishes for your son and tell him we (Tom, Veri and Ben) think of him!
I am sure, next time you'll post you'll have good news!
Tom

Quick update: My son is recovering well and in pain and has a swollen tongue, but the hospital, doctors and nurses here in Dallas are top notch and we hope to be home within a day or two. Thanks again for all your support.
I'm glad to hear the good news. I thought about you guys all day yesterday, and here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

Glad to hear it. Well, not the "in pain and has a swollen tongue" part, but, you know what I mean.

I can't imagine having that kind of constant support. One morning when I was eight, I woke up unable to walk. My mother was afraid I had polio, and when the doctor stepped out she severely scolded me for lying about my condition. Two weeks later I could walk again. All better. It was some kind of viral arthritis thing that was being spread by bugs I think. I don't remember the details. That's why, long ago I remarked that you were a very good father. My mother loved me to bits, but she didn't always demonstrate the capacity to properly care for me.

Thanks again, everyone. As far as all my son's surgeries have been, this was a relatively minor one, but the support is greatly appreciated. I'm relaxing at the hotel room now while my wife has night duty at the hospital, which I had last night. I'm watching college football on TV, drinking a beer and following the UTEP/SMU game on ESPN gamecast.
We don't game again until Oct 21st and I miss it for all the mental relaxation it brings me. I'm also thinking of all the others who have medical problems or whose kids have health issues as well, specifically Grim Greycastle's son.
My son will be a gamer, I just know it. He's already being thought of as "different" because of his appearance due to the Pfeiffer Syndrome, but he loves books, loves Dragons (can sign dragon in sign language), has his own set of dice and can identify a lot of the monsters in my miniature collection.
Of course, parental brainwashing might have a wee bit to do with it....my wife was reading the PH at the hospital room today and got some weird looks from the nurses, but neither one of us cares.

Hey, FH...do you go to the Great Lakes renfair? It's in NE (North East...though I guess you could say Neutral Evil, too) Ohio, just over the border.
And F2K, I hope everything continues to be well with your son. We need a future generation of gamers!!! :)
